A fabulous trip to the afterlife.

TV won't be the same. Still, 96 is a pretty good run!

Huh. On one hand, he apparently worked pretty much up to the end (says he recorded the beginning for SNL until its May season finale) and, on the other hand, I had an immediate "Don Pardo was still alive?" moment. I guess he was just so much of the landscape that I never thought about it.

Come on down Don, The Price is Right.

He's got to be one of the most memorable well-known voices in the world.

Between him and Don Lafontaine, God must be reaching for the earplugs.

Robin Williams, Don Pardo, and Richard Attenborough.

Edit: Oh, and Lauren Bacall.

September's first death, Joan Rivers. I believe the funeral service will be at a recycling center.

Shit, do I want to be one of the people to praise how great she was or one of the people to say "She really wasn't that great" in response to the first people. Decisions, decisions...

I often found her grating, but when I read some of her lines it does make me laugh. I think I just found her voice distracting.

Joan Rivers was great (back in the day) if you liked "industry" people. She was one of the first "insiders" that always had the scoop on what was going on in Hollywood. Bear in mind this was back when people only cared who was wearing which designer, where the A-list was eating or who their personal trainer was. Her connections were in less demand in recent years, she was all but replaced by the likes of TMZ and Perez Hilton. Or any of a dozen others.

Rivers could be crass but was rarely tacky. Part of her charm was that when she was making fun of someone you knew her humor was coming from an actual relationship with that person, not just "a source". She was friends with practically everyone in the industry at one time or another.

Last year it was early snow, and this year its celebrity deaths. Next up to Osiris' Scale is Richard Keil, aka Jaws and "that huge dude from Happy Gilmore."
