Don't forget the people who used it as an excuse for their own shenanigans. Smiley: nod

Considering her schedule, thankfully we only have to deal with it once a year.

I used to be a feminist but Youtube videos have changed my point of view. Lord only know what'll happen if I come across Tumblr.

Also, my wife is going away for the weekend and leaving me with the kids. Where's the Men's Rights there, huh? Who'll fight for me?

What I'm trying to get at is that I need Anita Sarkeesian to babysit for me this weekend.

Call your kids video games. That way someone else will babysit them and Anita will take credit.

Have you asked her yet? Because you'll never know until you do. She might be up for it.

That guy is obviously pro-feminist.

More seriously though, I'm really having trouble figuring out why people are just now going up in arms about "video game journalism." I mean, this was 20 years ago, and if it wasn't obvious before then, that was certainly a "lightbulb moment" (yes I'm still bitter 20 years later). I suppose each new generation has to figure things out for themselves though. Smiley: rolleyes

Gawker Media (Gawker, Kotaku, Gizmodo, Jezebel) really doesn't want their click-bait social justice issue to die and will continue running stories on it into the ground forever if they can.

Here's a simple 1:30 video summarizing the other side that your article doesn't really talk much about, more or less. It glosses over a lot, but it's short so things were sacrificed for brevity. There's a part after the channel outtro, just FYI.

That was one(or maybe several) magazine(s) during a time when the internet was very different than it is now. And it sounds like they were playing a beta and had taken the developer's word that currently missing features would be live on release. It was easy to miss and forget, and might have even been good faith reporting by the magazines based on what they actually believed.

14ish simultaneous articles in the internet age made for a big ******* sign pointing at the problem and was very hard to miss.

So, watched the video. Kind of glosses over the whole misogynistic 'spergers **** shaming a female video game developer b/c her ex boyfriend was butthurt that started this, doesn't it?

In which case the thing to do would be to say "we played a beta," these features are promised but we didn't try them. That wasn't the case and it duped a lot of people. They ommited details that painted a game in a rosy light. "Took the word of developers in good faith" is the kind of relationship I don't think people would want between a 'reporter' and a product they're testing. It was basically the same kind of wide-spread poor-quality 'reporting' on games people are talking about now like it's some kind of recent revelation.

The rise of opinion leaders who don't rely on gaming companies for revenues streams but also report on gaming. Total Biscuit, for example.

You also have to realize that a good portion of Gamergaters were 10 or younger when that whole thing happened, so it was never on many of our radars.

As an aside: I really liked Adam Baldwin in Firefly & Chuck. I did not know that the man that coined #Gamersgate was such a right wing nut.

I am disappointed.

What's this GamerGate/Gamer's Gate/Gamersgate thing?

I play video games and mash keyboards on forums; does this mean I'm a feminist or a misogynist in this binary world we live in?

If you have a penis, you are by default a misogynist. Isn't that how it works?

Another woman game developer who was critical of #gamersgate gets death threats & her home address leaked.

Not cool nerds, not cool. Whatever cause they're trying to pivot to now is kind of hard to take seriously when the misogyny that started it all keeps coming back. I get that there are resentful virgins on the internet that play video games & blame all women for their inability to get laid, but jesus christ...

Heh, it is hard to take seriously someone who flees a home due to an anonymous tweet. Not to say that I am not enjoying this the same way I would enjoy a good train wreck. Also, whoever is sending those tweets seems to have vested interests in keeping this fake issue alive.

Hell, I am starting to wonder whether it is feminist ( we need to figure out a name for the ****** feminists that are actually misandrists and practically make people hate women -- cause I don't have a problem with women having the same rights ) version of the 'the new black' in boondocks. Btw... why do we need to have women developers in exactly 50/50 ratio? Is that the new frontier after apple and ms are properly extorted to hire the right amount of chicks?

Am I reading it right?
