Obama to start normalizing U.S. relations with Cuba
Article wrote:

In his speech Wednesday, Obama said the decades-old policy toward Cuba was "outdated" and "failed to advance" U.S. interests.

That is why the U.S. will move toward re-opening its embassy in communist Cuba and allow some travel and trade that had been banned under an embargo instated during the Kennedy administration, he said.

"Through these changes, we intend to create more opportunities for the American and Cuban people," he said, "and begin a new chapter among the nations of the Americas."

Republicans are, predictably, freaking the **** out & saying that the Castro's "won". I think its long past time, but my worldview isn't shaped by an "us against them" attitude. And with Cuba's formerly biggest ally, Russia, looking like their economy is going to collapse it makes sense for it to happen now.

I would have posted the link to fox news, but their website is too busy freaking out to give the facts of the story at the moment.

Fox News at the moment:

REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS PUSH BACK HARD against President Obama's decision to enact a series of orders meant to normalize relations with Cuba — including asking Congress to ease or end the embargo — with some GOP heavy hitters, such as Florida Sen. There are days when I seriously think the President sits up at night thinking of ways to troll Republicans. And cackling.

They would prefer if we roughed the place up a bit to give us corps a competitive advantage and generate jobs for contractors.

He definitely skipped a step there. I mean there was a time when US was much into sabotage there, but by now they prolly rebuilt so... wasted effort.

Thanks Obama

Yeah, nothing says "winning" to a communist like more open trade with the US:

The secret U.S.-Cuba negotiations took place over a period of 18 months, hosted mostly by Canada and encouraged by Pope Francis from the outset of his papacy.

I can only assume that Ted Cruz will put on a large worn tophat and insist that Obama fight a duel with him to put an end to this roman popery.

Something like this, probably:

Rubio gave his presidential primary competitors a nice quote:
Quote:
“I’ve never analyzed this issue from an electoral perspective…this is how I passionately feel,” Rubio said. “Quite frankly it’s irrelevant for me… I don’t care if 99 percent of people in polls disagree with my position. This is my position and I feel passionately about it.”

Rubio gave his presidential primary competitors a nice quote:

Don't worry, depending on the polling in FL, either every candidate from both parties will say it worked out ok or that they disagreed with it at the time. No one actually really cares about Cuba. Well, Cubans, maybe. Possibly Mark Cuban.

Even among Cuban-Americans, support for the embargo is mainly among the older generation. Younger Cuban-Americans favor normalizing relations (they're also more likely Democrats, causing the GOP to slowly lose its one reliable Hispanic bloc).

Sure, NOW. Once this starts leading to their cousins coming over and wanting to sleep in their guesthouses, then what?

Joph is an expert in this.

When do you involve this forum in those steps?

On a percentage basis, this forum has led to more marriages than almost any other online boning site!
