In a manifestation of the warm affection between our two nations, it seems Prince Harry is makin' saweet lurve with the toothsome Meghan Markle. Who wouldn't, given the chance?

Harry's had a chequered relationship with the UK's gutter press. From rampant playboy making strip-poker based jig-a-jig with naughty ladies in Las Vegas and being a loveable ne'erdowell, he's been rehabilitated through his impressive work for injured veterans (Invictus games and some very frank and open interviews about depression and mental health). Not to mention going on the front line with his unit in Afghanistan.

British tabloids have been having a field day with Ms Markle's ethnicity, parentage and even revelations about appearing on a pr0n0 site (some loser uploaded her steamy scenes from Suits to a xxx site). In an unusual twist for the normally taciturn royals, Harry released a statement today which poignantly states:

The Palace wrote:
Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game - it is her life and his.

Given what happened to his Mom when he was 12, this reinforces my belief that some journalists (mainstream and web based) deserve to be boiled in their own fat.

Anywho - I was wondering if this is getting much coverage over in the land of the free (or it's buried in the cripple-fight between the two least electable candidates in history) - and how it's being perceived. Just curious.

We're way to obsessed with ourselves right now to care about anyone else. Check back in a month or two though, we're usually pretty big on the whole royal-family-controversy kind of stuff.

Also, thought this quote was interesting (from the BBC):

Quote:
BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell said editors in the UK might abide by the prince's requests but it was unlikely to have an impact on foreign publishers as there was a considerable financial interest in pursuing stories about the relationship.

I saw it pop up in my Twitter timeline, which prompted the following thoughts, in order:

1. I remember that woman. She's very aesthetically pleasing. The high-waist skirt look is rawr.
2. Boy, that show went down the shitter fast. The first season was decent, but once the Big Personal Secret was out in the open, the stakes were pretty meaningless.
3. Gina Torres was on that show, wasn't she? I haven't watched Firefly in a long time.
4. Why is this news?

She is really hot. Could we barter a sex tape of her and prince harry, and photos of two fat royal babies, for a US-UK trade deal?

It is now, it fits the narrative too well to ignore any longer.

Darn Syrians coming up here, harassing our women, we should ask the US to bomb something then blame them for the outcome.

The media's time would be better spent constructing a scaffold from which to purge these last remnants of our toxic feudal system.

Harry released a statement today in which Sally Osman poignantly states:

It's not much of a story over here, honestly.

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Yeah. Like not a story at all, except maybe somewhere buried in a tabloid opposite a page long story about a boy raised by bears or something. Makes the whole comment about how foreign journalists might still cause problems funny really. Um... Pretty sure it's only news in the UK. So if there's problems, that's where it is.

Like Twiz, I saw it in my Twitter feed this morning but didn't care enough to actually read about it.
