Traveling is a little easier I guess with all the new Maws you can teleport to with abyssea but I personally never had much problem getting around with just outpost warps. As far as as LS goes just be kind and talkative, but not annoyingly talkative, to people you party with and ask if they have room for you in their LS. Also a few threads down there is a thread about a LS for new and returning players you might want to see if you can get in touch with some of those people.
