Returning to start from scratchFollow

After leaving ffxi six or seven years ago, I finally decided to had to come back and play again. It seems that so much as changed over that time not only with the content but also in regards to the most beneficial way to play. I thought starting from the beginning may be the easiest way to become familiar with the changes to the game. I always did prefer the old party system as well taking six people and camping and killing mobs for exp but alas, based on some of the threads I've read it seems that has almost completely become a thing of the past. If there are any Linkshells that still try to use the old parties or even a Linkshell that is willing to help out people that have been away from the game for away and aren't familiar with the changes, I'd be quite thankful. I use to play primarily as a Hume Red Mage focused on healing but am starting out as a Mithra Thief, Capricia, at the moment (only level 8). Was always a healer, be it in ffxi as a RDM, or in WoW as a Druid. I have no problem changing jobs to help meet the needs of a Linkshell either. Smiley: cool Time to go gain some more levels.

Welcome Back to the Game! Certainly looks like you have been gone for a while lol.
First off, if you quit 6-7 years ago, its actually better to discuss the things that have stayed the same, considering the majority of the game is completely different from the time period.
The best advice anyone could give is to fid a helpful Veteran. The enormity of the differences in old/new FFXI is huge.
That being said, many would argue it is "better" now, in terms of accessibility, playability, and even the social interaction.
If you would like to join my Returning players LS hit me up, or you can ask some more specific questions as they arise to you.
Just a minor heads up, RDM and THF are kinda meh jobs at the moment, and I dont see that changing anytime in the future. RDM is actually almost completely obsolete as a healing job (a BLM would heal just as well, for example)

I am also looking for a Returning player LS. I've been gone a couple of years, and the game has really advanced. My main character is Farima, but Lulabi can't wait to get out and get going! I hope to find you on line.

I'm also returning from a 7 year hiatus, and picked a RDM. Now that I'm reading this thread, I'm worried I made the wrong choice... :(
However, I'm concentrating on Enfeebling magic. Is Enfeebling RDM useless?

It's not useless, but it definitely has lost a lot of it's popularity for endgame utility. It's still great for soloing if you're into that, and it's still the go-to subjob for BLM.
