Pretty sure NBC doesn't like Powerless either. Cause I'm 100% sure my box said it was recording something Thursday when I checked Wednesday night.

Then nothing.

They showed the same Rick and Morty Season 3 episode all night last night. And thus did not show Samurai Jack.

Or, as one Facebook comment wrote:

Quote:
In Bird culture, not showing Samurai Jack in the place of the same Rick and Morty episode that was played for 3 hours is considered a dick move.

I was watching it on a loop before I realized it was 11:25 and my DVR was currently recording "Samurai Jack" which was the episode of Rick and Morty I was currently watching for the 6th or 7th time. (Not actually watching, just on, and listening to it.)

Walking Dead season (midseason? quarterseason? I never know anymore) finale continues to prove that the most dangerous thing about a zombie apocalypse is being black. RIP in peace Sasha. Overall not too shabby, but nothing unexpected either. (Sasha asked for a kill button and said she wouldn't be used against her friends last episode so saw that coming a mile away, there was going to be a double cross one way or the other so the weird talking garbage people taking Rick hostage wasn't a surprise.) Shiva nomming on Saviors was amusing. Still no Booyah. Overall an okay finale, but there's been better. Neat commercial for Preacher's return, though. Enjoyed that.

Adding Nick Frost to Into the Badlands was a great choice for the show. Somehow he just adds something to every scene he's in, like a stark contrast to everything else.

That time was your box. It was definitely on the other night. I don't remember exactly why, but I did laugh at a joke or two. Maybe delete the entry and reset it? Have it record both new and reruns? Mine has trouble recording shows that don't adhere to specific time blocks. Like whatever comes on before Elementary has been either coming on slightly later or running slightly longer but for whatever reason I'm getting half of whatever that is I'm fast forwarding through and the first half of Sherlock Crackaddict and it's frustrating my Mondays to no end. And to segue to Rick & Morty ... that was funny for the first four airings. Not so much the next few hours. Cartoon Network did do a few episodes of Steven Universe with googly eyes. That was amusing.

I generally like Sleepy Hollow, but the season finale was pretty much proof it's been on one season too long. That ending was entirely anticlimactic and unsatisfactory on every level.

Serinda Swan photographed in Hawaii on set of The Inhumans. The good news is her hair is most definitely and easily noticeably red. The bad news? Several feet of it is missing. I imagine, in fact I hope, it'll be mostly CGI. Medusa without her hair is like Darwin dying or Music Meister not using music. The other week there was a leaked video of Vision fighting mysterious black garbed individuals. Now a new image has leaked which more or less confirms Corvus (Comic Reference) will be showing up.

Speaking of pictures, people with far more time on their hands have examined every second of the Justice League trailer and discovered some bird winged individuals fluttering about in the distance during the big war scene, which has lead them to speculate that it's a Thanagarian or two. That would explain why they removed Hawkman and Hawkgirl from Legends of Tomorrow.

Contrary to my opinion, Iron Fist pretty much dominated Netflix viewings, topping Daredevil's and Luke Cage's traffic by a healthy margin. I'd chalk that up to curiosity. Kind of a "why would critics say what they said" kind of thing.

Jessica Jones's second season officially started production today in New York. I'm kind of wary, as I can't imagine they'll be able to even match David Tennant, much less top it.

Guardians of the Geico commercial. I ... really don't need to say much beyond that, do I? It's exactly what you think it is.

And a commercial for ghits and siggles.

Went thru my DVR history. It skipped recording Powerless because "It had previously been recorded". I guess the day it recorded that episode of that Trial show, it flagged that particular episode as already recorded, so it skipped it when NBC updated their programming guide.

At least NBC is on Demand, so I can get around to watching these episodes I have missed when I get around to it.

Edit:
Means I gotta check out for this week's Samurai Jack, since it will be flagged as last weeks' episode...

The next animated Batman movie, tentatively named Batman & Harley Quinn has found it's Harley; Melissa Rauch, the kind of mousy blonde that marries the pervert in Big Bang Theory. Considering it's the original Batman and Robin, I'm a little disappointed they didn't get Arleen Sorkin as wel, but I think I could like Rauch's voice, provided we also get the accent. Never really found the appeal to Tara Strong's Harley, always felt like she was trying too hard to be Sorkin. "Harley's Holiday" was probably my favorite BTAS episode, competing with "Almost Got 'im." The story will be Batman (Kevin Conroy) and Nightwing (Loren Lester) reluctantly teaming-up with Harley Quinn to attempt to stop a global catastrophe caused by Poison Ivy (Paget Brewster) and Jason Woodrue, AKA the Plant-Master. Kind of weird for Harley to be on the opposite side of Ivy after all these years of their relationship.

A little disappointing, but a new report reveals that the Wall-Crawler's suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming will have an AI similar to Tony Stark's JARVIS / Friday AI in his suits. According to IGN, the suit will have a "training wheels" protocol built in that keeps Spidey from accessing every feature, which he'll spend most of the movie trying to crack. Of the options he does have access to he'll have a parachute, a heater, airbag, the ability to light up, a tracking device for Iron Man to find him and control what type of webs he can use (adjust the spread between webslinging and webbing people up, a web boll, recochet web, a taser, multiweb, probably other action game inspired moves). Apparently it'll be more for comedic effect, as IGN goes on to say that "he’s not used to working with an artificial intelligence the way Tony Stark is, so when Peter asks for directions on how to get somewhere, for example, the AI responds by wanting to know if he’ll be driving, or walking." I could really do without 90% of that, but not a deal killer. Hell, I've been reading Dan Slott's drivel for years now, I can take this. Though I imagine this is a first act deal, and once the suit is taken away he'll have to become more self sufficient. If so, then I'm perfectly okay with that.

Also there won't be any reference to the Netflix heroes in Homecoming. Because Peter and Matt aren't good friends and they operate at the same street level or nothin'. Yes, I mad. Yes, I also realize that particular detail doesn't work with Peter being a teenager and Matt ... not so much. Still. I mad. Also when asked about future villains in sequels Executive producer Eric Caroll said they're going to avoid the Osborns (been done to death in previous Spider movies) and Doc Ock (don't want to step on Spider-Man 2's feet). Which is fine, there are plenty of villains for infinite sequels. Though would be kind of cool to have the Green Goblin splitting time between competing against Tony Stark as a businessman and Peter as the Green Goblin.

Benicio Del Toro won't be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2. Kind of a shame, Collector and Gamemaster arguing would be amusing, even as a brief mid/end credit scene.

Quick Defenders teaser. Kind of funny seeing Matt in a suit and Dread Pirate Roberts headband mask. Also the time stamp is 08:18:20:17. August 18, 2017 release, maybe? It is a Friday ...

Melissa Rauch voiced one of the Icewind Dale audio stories and it was fucking awful. I don't think I was even able to make it through the story and just skipped to the next one. Maybe she's better when she's not trying to voice act a dwarf.

You sure? I can't find any reference to it in all of five minutes of looking. Although digging through imdb I do see that Mark Hamill did a voice in Heart of Darkness so that's a neat new bit of useless trivia. Found a sneak preview. Regular easy to dismiss nerd "not muh" argument against her; Range is deeper and the accent isn't nearly as heavy as Sorkin's, but other than that it sounds acceptable. Really, if I have any complaint so far it's how no matter what role Kevin Michael Richardson plays all I hear is Principal Lewis from American Dad. I'm not a huge fan of the animated universe, but from the scenes they did show and ignoring the shilling I do want to check this one out.

Huh. I thought Agents of SHIELD would have had Framework Jemma faking her death and regular Jemma showing up as a resistance fighter. Nope, crawled out of a mass grave. Also, "Gee, I wonder if Digi-Ward is the double agent" he says unenthusiastically. Well that'll learns me to write before watching the whole episode. I thought they'd drag that out at least an episode or two. The interrogation scene made it pretty obvious ... you know, if you somehow didn't know Ward is always a double agent from previous seasons. Kind of weird seeing Hydra using less-than-lethal rounds. Gotta say though, **** MCU with the whole "Hydra are Nazis" nonsense. Smiley: mad I know I'm in the wrong on this and comic canon is different than movie/tv canon, but Hydra was more Spectre evil spy organization to Nick Fury's James Bond than anything. Later on some Nazi character took over leadership, but those characters had pretty much all renounced the Reich at that point. Aida as Madame Hydra slash Agent Smith was also a pretty predictable but amusing twist. Tahiti really is a magical place. Smiley: laugh

I'm not sure if it was during Legends of Tomorrow (For once it isn't Barry destroying time.), iZombie (Kind of a slow season premiere), or Agents of SHIELD, but there was a commercial for the second season of Attack on Titan, and all I could think was how amazing it was to see a commercial for an anime on TV, and that the show they're advertising literally just aired the other day.

Some news out of the New Warriors camp. A while back it was reported the show was being developed by ABC, and now it's being reported that it's going to be at least a ten part series on Freeform as a live-action comedy. Not a huge fan of the channel. Also according to THR Kevin Biegel, Scrubs and Cougar Town alum, is nearing a deal to write the script and serve as showrunner and will premiere sometime next year. As reported previously, Doreen Green / Squirrel Girl will be the main character.
New Warriors Official Synopsis wrote:
New Warriors revolves around about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world ... even if the world isn't ready. With Freeform focused on a group dubbed "becomers" - those experiencing a series of firsts in life including first loves and first jobs - New Warriors explores the journey into adulthood, except in this world, they're not quite super and not yet heroes and the guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.
Can't say I'm wild about it. Already dreading how they'll handle Doreen being a mutant when this isn't a Fox production. Maybe they'll blow up a school as a season finale.

Late day at work and release of Persona 5 lead to me missing most of the live showings yesterday. Going to have to watch some stuff tonight.

As for Attack on Titan season 2, my TV is on Cartoon Network / Adult Swim most of the time, so I see the commercials for Season 2 from Toonami all the time. Guess I wouldn't remember if I see it on another network, since it would all blend in as one.

Seems to be something unique to Attack on Titan though. Some reason, at least from what I've experience, that show seems to be transcending this "anime culture". I've had people at work talk to me about it from watching it on Netflix. People who I would never have thought would be into watching anything anime related.

Edit:

Melissa Rauch audio book:
https://www.amazon.com/Free-Legend-Drizzt-Collected-Stories/dp/B00MN1R0J8

I think this is the one Joph is talking about. A few years ago, maybe in this topic or in the Omnibus deals topic, there was a short discussion on it. I remember this one being my first sign up for Audible. Now I just check every year for the "30 days free plus 2 books" deals and just temporarily sign up for two free books and then cancel.

I don't recall her story. The only one I recall being really bad was Felicia Day's goblin voice. So annoying. Most the others were passable. Ice T's just seemed so out of place to me.

How is there a Weird Al anything that I am not aware of? Now I have to check it out. Probably this weekend. Also somehow mistook "audio stories" for the Icewind Dale games which basically explains why I couldn't find anything based on my less than thorough search.

That Greg Grunberg guy was awful as well. But I mainly remember Rauch being the one story I just outright skipped rather than listen to it.

If anything, that collection felt like a lesson in why professional voice acting is a thing.

An Italian movie site released a part of a press release for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 where it shows a cast list, most notably saying that Sylvester Stallone's character is named "Stakar." Now, there's a character named Stakar Ogord, better known as Starhawk, who was a high ranking member of the Ravagers (The group Yondu's part of in his movie origin). Also fueling the speculation is that a while ago James Gunn said that Starhawk was one of his favorite character, and later went on to confirm that Guardians 2 would introduce "one of his favorite characters." Rosenbaum is also supposed to play one of the "original" Guardians, so that still leaves Vance Astro, Martinex and Charlie-27 on the table.

Jessica Jones season two adds Janet McTeer in a "Major Mysterious Role." Jeph Loeb goes on to say that “Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal," which would lead one to believe she'll be a villain since what the audience loved during the first season was Tennent's Purple Dressed Man.

So. Two hours before Samurai Jack is going to air I double check my DVR to make sure it's going to record. It is. Then at 11:30 I realize I didn't pay attention and catch it live. Click my DVR and see nothing...

Go to "History" and it says "Skipped due to being a repeat".
Adult Swim: The April Fool's Joke that keeps on giving...

Adult Swim's Samurai Jack entry for On Demand seems messed up on my DVR. Looks like the first three episodes are labelled 92 thru 94, and each entry has about 20 copies. I assume that is the actual episode number out of the whole series. And it's not set to repeat at all from what I can tell. So I have to bother to find it online or wait for On Demand to update.

I got around to finishing off the Legends of Tomorrow. Not bad, but don't really care for where they left it (the direction it went there).

SHIELD was a good premiere. I really liked the whole thing.

Got around to watching the Powerless episodes I had missed. Turns out it was only one episode. And I did see a couple good (or, immature...) laugh points. Van accusing the old woman of using his private restroom. "Turder She Wrote" "Law and Order: IBS". The Black guy laughing about the "Logs" used in discussion about toilets.. Also since there appears to be no real overarcing story or continuity between episodes, it doesn't appear to require to be watched in any real order.

I've been enjoying the new Samurai Jack episodes, but last night's episode was really the first one that felt like the old episodes. Dramatic, but still some light scenes to break it up. Next week's episode looks to be bringing back the Scotsman, so that should be great.

The X-Universe spin-off New Mutants movie may have just started pre-production if director Josh Boone's instagram update is any indication.

Thor: Ragnarok teaser, complete with all the silly Asgardian hats. Specifically Hela's, Loki's, and Thor's hats. Admittedly, I laughed at the part near the end. I wasn't a fan of the first two Thor movies, except for maybe Loki in the second movie. This one I'm actually looking forward to. I guess it helps they used Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." That's like the perfect Thor movie song. A little disappointed they show what happened to Mjolnir in the teaser. That should be something left for the movie. Karl Urban as Skurge might be my favorite part, though.

Looks like there is going to be a ten episode Gorillaz cartoon sometime in the future.

I did catch the Samurai Jack episode this morning before work (it appeared on Demand).

It was definitely a bit more light hearted than the previous had been. Jack cracking some jokes. Almost actually felt as out of place as Aku's episode 2 intro. I liked it, but it just felt out of place with the tone set by previous fight scenes and inner turmoil stuff going on.

Moving foward I think now that the mislabelled episodes of Samurai Jack and Powerless are out of the loop, my box shouldn't be skipping them anymore.

And I still need to finish watching Iron Fist. I think I'm half way thru it. Episode 7 or 8, I forget which.

Edit:
So apparently Teen Titans Go! must be pretty successful, because Ben 10 has been rebooted into a similar format. Similar animation style, comedic short stories, lack of overall storyline, etc. Still created by Man of Action. I saw it airing when I got home from work. Fighting a giant Maggot monster that was working its way toward Las Vegas.

That line caught me offguard. I thought Thor was screaming because he was excited at the idea of fighting Hulk. Was a good line, though. Loki sitting in the stands probably is excited over the idea of Thor and Hulk fighting each other, though. Puny god.

Mace gets to be the hero he always wanted to be, and I didn't miss the Billy Koenig reference. Big Mack and daughter is going to end up tragic one way or another and I am not looking forward to that. Fitz is like a PTSD magnet. I think he knows it's all a simulation and that Agnes was already dead so he had to shoot her to keep his cover. Still, man is going to need some more therapy with Big Mack after all is said and done.

Earlier the @tomhollandsource twitter account said that Angourie Rice's role in Spider-Man: Homecoming was revealed to be Gwen Stacy, but since then the entry has been deleted so that could mean anything from it being true and they deleted it to keep it a surprise, or Sony/MCU told them to take it down and they didn't want to lose their source, or it was wrong.

Khary Payton revealed that he's been reading lines for Young Justice season 3. No word if any network has actually picked it up or how often Aqualad will scream BOOYAH, but the first two seasons were pretty good and there's been a lot of angst over the lack of a third season so this is good news.

Rumor floating around that Jude Law may have been cast as a young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin, who is also Thanos in the MCU-Prime movies, has signed a 4-picture deal to play Cable in Deadpool 2. I am incredibly disappointed it isn't Keira Knightley. Smiley: mad Almost 100% chance of a "You're a lot less purple" joke.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns in two days, and I've read a couple of reviews of the pilot (Can it be called a pilot if the show is fifteen years old and it isn't a reboot?). They're mostly positive, saying there's a decent balance between nostalgia and new. My biggest issue is that most of the reviews say the jokes are faster paced and liken it to Family Guy, which I'm not a fan of. I'm hoping it isn't a cutaway gag a minute.

Dolph Lundgren has been cast as King Nereus in the upcoming Aquaman movie. So that brings the villain count up to three, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta, and Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master. Not much of a pattern to really draw a conclusion, but cape movies with three or more villains don't tend to do well trying to juggle the nefarious schemes and machinations.

The Animated Spider-Man movie is rumored to have found it's Miles Morales, Shameik Moore. Who ... I have never heard of. He'll be joining Liev Schreber, who has plenty of experience in both voice and regular acting so hopefully he takes Sabertooth's advice.

The Hashtag show unleashed some more character breakdowns, this time for the next season of Jessica Jones.
Hashtag Show wrote:

[PRESLEY] Late 30s, Male, African American, intelligent, driven, self-assured FRACTIONAL SERIES REGULAR

[INGRID] Early-mid 30s, 5’8 – 5’11, female, dark hair, attractive and edgy, has a history of living on the streets. Educated as a nurse, but street-wise. She is attracted to men and women…SERIES REGULAR
They're speculating that Kirby is Dr. Karl Malus, who may be responsible for developing the serum that gave Nuke (possible Jessica, too) superpowers, and Presley as mercenary Paladin/Paul Denning. As for myself, I think Oliver is going to be Hector Ayala, the original White Tiger.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 season 11 is officially out on Netflix. Should have something to say about it Monday. One major complaint I'm seeing thrown around is that it's hard to tell who is talking.

First Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser, for those of you into that kind of thing. Truth be told, Star Wars was never really part of my kink geekdom. The prequels and the Force Awakens didn't really help much.

Doctor Who started up. A pretty basic episode. I do like that they kept the bald guy around. And the companion s a gay black woman.

After Doctor Who, BBC America is showing a TV series called "Class" which is a spinoff show. Apparently it already exists over in the UK. First episode had a bit more gore than I expected from a Doctor Who related show.

And Samurai Jack. Scotsman's death was a little too comedic. I don't think they should have had a skeleton remain and crumble to dust. The army of daughters, and how he criticized their choice of outfits was kind of funny. Depressed Aku is still off putting.

Ashi moved very quickly through her realization there. Though I guess that's to be expected since I'm sure they can't drag on the show too much. Jack left with his inner spirit/demon thing after thinking he failed to save all the children. And now Ashi is going to go on a quest to find him.

How long before Ashi and Jack get it on? He definitely earned some points with the "Whole New World" magic carpet ride. And when he refused to fight back against the children being used as weapons. Ashi's face when she and Pimp-Jack were in the elevator was quite good.

Ashi is not for waifu. Ashi is for daughter. Maybe imouto. But yeah, dang was Scotsman ever so busy. That was a lot of daughters. I actually liked the skeleton, it felt more like the original series. Breaks up the intense drama of the main story. The whole sequence was amusing. For a moment in the end that red armored Moltar wannabe briefly sounded like DBZ Abridged'd Dodoria and I half expected him to start going on about Space Ducks. What really amazed me was the commercial for Attack on Titan's second season starting next week on Toonami. I mean, sheesh. Dubbed and edited for television already? I think the third episode just aired.

Got to watch an episode of MST3k last night. Overall I enjoyed it, but a few things just aren't for me. First off, for some reason they mention the name of the show as the name of the project from the original series. It might have been a while since I've marathoned them, but I certainly don't remember it ever being named. It was just a dude in a lime green coat doing world domination experiments. The voices aren't that distinct either, so during the movie I can't tell who is saying what. Also they really should have cut down the script. They tell a lot of jokes but they don't give most of them enough time to land before telling the next one. It's especially noticeable when there's no spoken lines in the movie and they just shotgun jokes one after another after another. It also doesn't help that now Tom inexplicably flies around for no real reason, and Gypsy just ... kind of appears. I wish they hadn't so drastically changed her voice. And I don't know why it got in my craw but the Door Sequence turning into the Splitting Room sequence just didn't do it for me. And then there's this weird band that shows up during where commercials would be if it were on television called The Skeleton Crew because they're dressed like skeletons and it's just ... awkward. And really, you can tell how much of a contribution Mike Nelson's writing made to the original series. But with all that said, it still rates pretty much in the range of an average MST3k episode. I'm not under any delusion that over ten seasons there weren't plenty of stinker episodes, but the show was always comfy and this new season has the same feel.

Chad James Buchanan just tweeted that he's off to Hawaii for a role in Marvel's The Inhumans so I guess that counts as a confirmation. No clue for what role, and while most of the Royal Family has already been cast if I were to guess I'd say he'll play Blackbolt's and Medusa's son Ahura. Or maybe one of the new characters, like Reader.

James Gunn says he'd love to do a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in the same vein of the Star Wars Holiday Special, saying he and Kevin Feige talk about it all the time. Who do I send my money to to make that happen?

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 screened yesterday. Critics sound overall pleased with it. According to James Gunn there will be five post credits scenes, and considering there's five main characters I'd guess one per spread out during the credit roll.
James Gunn's Facebook wrote:
Well, this week we start the U.S. press junket, before traveling to Europe at the end of the week. Of course I know some of the questions that come up a lot – “Wasn’t there a lot more pressure dealing with the sequel of a beloved film?” (No, there was less, because this time I knew there was an audience waiting to see it!) and, “What was it like working with Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone?” (Daunting and at times overwhelming – I ran around in my backyard as a kid pretending to be Snake Plissken and John Rambo, so these guys are true icons to me.)

But the question that comes up perhaps the most is, “What’s the deal with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and are you going to direct?”

Before I was able to honestly answer this, I needed to know it was, in my heart, what I truly felt called to do. There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies, and I didn’t want to become a part of that dishonorable tradition of pretending the third one doesn’t exist. I couldn’t do it for the money, and I couldn’t do it because it was what other people wanted me to do. I needed to do it because it was what I needed to do. I have never made choices in my career based on anything other than passion and love for the stories and characters, and I didn’t want to start now.

So, after many months of ruminations and discussions, I know the answer. I could save this answer for the first, random interviewer to ask me during the press junket but instead I thought I’d share it with the most important people in the Guardiansverse – you, the fans, who have been so incredibly supportive and enthusiastic over the past five years, it has moved me to tears on a regular basis.

So, yes, I’m returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.

My partnership with the folks at Marvel Studios – Kevin Feige, Lou D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Jonathan Schwartz – has been the best of my professional career, and is a huge contributing factor to my decision – as is my relationship to the guys at Disney Studios – Bob Iger, Alan Horn, and Alan Bergman – who have been cheerleading innovation and the pure love of movies from the start. This is the kind of thing you’d expect a director to say about the people who have just hired him, but people who know me know I would never put up working with people I don’t like for a single movie, much less two, and much, much less three. I love them all and appreciate immensely their collaboration. I wake up every day pinching myself that they’d allow this punk rock kid from Missouri to help create this wonderful universe, and to not only allow but encourage creative freedom while doing so.

I can’t fricking wait to get started.

Much of what’s happened in the MCU for the past ten or so years has been leading, in a big way, to the Avengers’ Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen after all that. It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond. I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.

I promise you, the fans, I’ll do it all with integrity and love and respect for the characters.

Make mine Marvel.

We are Groot.

Excelsior!

Love,

James
Well, that's two good signs. There will be a third Guardians movie and it'll be with Gunn at the helm. Also makeshift timeframe when it'll show up is sometimes a plus but really that just makes anticipating it worse. Hopefully we get a better name than "Vol. 3". Personally, seeing as he says it is going to be a conclusion, I'm hoping for "Greatest Hits." And seeing as this is the conclusion of "this iteration" of the Guardians, that could lead to the original "future" Guardians, with Vance Astro, Charlie-27, Martinex, and original flavor Yondu from the 31st century.

And on that note, Stallone's character is officially confirmed to be Stakar / Starhawk. Rocky himself offered some backstory about the character, saying that "Stakar had banished Yondu many years earlier for doing something wrong and he finally sees him almost twenty years later at this particular establishment called the 'Iron Lotus' where all of the Ravagers go to blow off steam. And then we have a confrontation which is pretty intense and it's kind of a father/son type of thing and now he's going to have to pay the piper. His karma has come back ten-fold." Also confirmed returning to the movie is Laura Haddock, Peter's mother Merideth. So I guess we're going to see a scene or two of Ego macking on her. Still no word on who Michael Rosenbaum is playing, though good money is on Quasar.

And over on the Spider-Man: Homecoming front, Logan Marshall-Green character has been revealed to be Jackson “Montana” Brice, who was a member of The Enforcers in the comics. So maybe we'll also get an Ox and Fancy Dan?

Michael McElhatton, who played Roose Bolton on Game of Thrones, will appear in Justice League, though according to him he's not at liberty to say exactly who yet.

According to director Rian Johnson the "Last Jedi" in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is singular and refers to just Luke. Which I guess was something of wide spreading rumor/speculation that it meant something else?

Marvel Studios recently invited several outlets to their headquarters on the Disney lot in Burbank CA for a mysterious “Open House” tour. There, they were greeted with a ton of new concept art and movie footage, including the press' first glimpse of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. So, you know, be prepared for a barrage of news. According to the Nerdist:
The Nerdist wrote:
"The first two featured Brie Larson in her costume, which appears to draw heavy inspiration from her classic comics suit. Though the design kept Captain Marvel’s signature eight-pointed star emblem square on the chest, its look and feel were more akin to Ant Man’s suit than Iron Man’s. Like a form-fitting armor, her suit is less spandex and more military grade, covering her whole body. Her iconic sash is more of a utility belt, favoring function over form. In the concept art she stands tall, staring off into the distance, looking hopeful but tough."
That doesn't sound like her "classic comics suit" at all but her newer Kelly Sue DeConnick's. Which isn't bad persay, so long as they don't use that godawful helmet. The third image they say was her fighting "something in a giant metal suit with a helmet; the creature looked almost like the Kree sentries."

THR chimed in, this time about Ant-Man & The Wasp. They say some of the concept art presented showed Paul Rudd's hero in Giant-Man mode, as well as the character "using everyday objects made giant (such as a human-sized Ant-Man holding an oversized plastic soda bottle to spray bad guys with.)" Another pic apparently featured "an adorable, giant dog with a car in its jaws."
THR wrote:
"The suits are one thing on the comic page. They are fantastic. When you actually have to make it seem realistic in the real world, in three dimensions, you've got to buy it. It's got to be credible," said (Peyton) Reed of the challenge. He noted in the first Ant-Man, the team intentionally made the costume look old school, with the idea that the suit was outdated Hank Pym technology.

Ant-Man received an upgrade in last year's Captain America: Civil War, and that will continue with Ant-Man and The Wasp. "This is a whole new suit," Reed said, calling it the "3.0" suit. "It's fun, because it's very specific for the needs of the story."
Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi showed up during the Open House Tour and announced that he'll actually be in his movie, as one of Hulk's Warbound allies, Korg. He says that “Being so big he’s a slugger, he’s not very graceful. He sort of hits hard." Interesting bit of trivia, but Korg is a Kronan, who were the villains in Thor's first appearance in "Journey Into Mystery #83."

Seriously, these little comments are amusing to no end. Well, I certainly did not expect to see Trip showing back up. The brief return of Berserk May was also welcome. Wow, Mace talked about how he accidentally looked like he hero when someone photographed him "saving" someone from a falling ceiling, and in the Framework he got to do it for real. Between that and Mack and his daughter ... I mean, ****, this season is all feels.

Trailer for ScyFy's Krypton. Complete with the black SuperUSBs. My only real complaint (asides it being Superman related) is that they make it a point to tell the audience it's by the guy who penned Man of Steel. That's like advertising a zoo by telling everyone your main attraction is the monkey that started AIDs.

Also in trailers, Kingsmen 2 released a fifteen second teaser yesterday, and later someone slowed it down so we can actually see what was featured. The first movie was neat, and this one looks to be just as wild.

The B-Roll for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 found it's way on to Youtube. I'll triple spoil it, but needless to say it's a bunch of stunt and greenscreen work, some bloopers, and what could essentially be considered spoilers for the movies. Actual spoilers, not me using the spoiler tag to condense post size and make loading a little easier. Considering we're a little more than two weeks out before the release, you might not want to watch. Me, I don't really care about spoilers since they almost never have the context for the scenes. If you do watch it the 4 minute mark where Bautista is just losing it was my favorite part. The 6 minute mark is about where the spoilers actually start, though I guess there's an argument that all of the video is technically spoilers. Also Kurt Russel looks like he'd be fun to work with but man is it weird seeing Solid Snake Pliskin with a grey old person beard. At the end it's Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel doing voice work and damn do they get into it.

Marvel just announced who will be joining Doreen Green in the upcoming Freeform New Warriors TV series.
Kevin Biegel, about the Team Lineup and Character Descriptions wrote:
Doreen Green (Squirrel Girl) wrote:
Squirrel Girl is the spunky fangirl and "wonderful heart of the show" with acrobat skills, superhuman strength and a cool squirrel tail, Biegel says. (She can also talk to critters including her sidekick, Tippy Toe.) “She is openly hopeful and earnest and sweet and optimistic, but smart and very determined that she can make a difference, too. She knows she’s great and if you’re not going to get on board with her, she’ll leave you in the dust.”
Craig Hollis (Mister Immortal) wrote:
The squad’s resident troublemaker and lothario, this guy can’t die — or at least that’s what he says — and is equally cocky and grumpy. “Craig is a little more jaded and saying things aren’t as rosy and the world isn’t as hopeful as you make it out to be,” says Biegel.
Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher) wrote:
The masked dude is a local celebrity with his own YouTube channel but no actual superpowers. His parents were killed when he was younger, though he worries about his family’s wealth ruining his street cred. “Dwayne is the one who’s enterprising and really trying to figure out the business side of this entire thing,” Biegel says, “but at the same time he really does care about justice.”
Robbie Baldwin (Speedball) wrote:
A guy whose childhood was spent watching Quinjets take off from Avengers Tower, Speedball has the knack — though maybe not the greatest aim — for tossing kinetic balls of energy. Although immature and impulsive, “Robbie has these noble aspirations, but can’t quite figure out which one to pursue," Biegel says.
Zack Smith (Microbe) wrote:
A big guy with a sizable heart, Microbe communicates with germs, giving him telepathic-like qualities, though he leans on his pals to find extra confidence. “Zack literally is just looking for a connection: ‘Hey, maybe I can find a group of people I can hang out with,’ which is totally part of who you are in your 20s,” Biegel says.
Deborah Fields (Debrii) wrote:
Not only is she a low-level telekinetic trickster who has experienced serious personal loss due to the actions of superheroes, Deborah is also a proud, witty lesbian. “It’s not all about ‘Hey, I relate to the show because I want to have a squirrel tail,' but ‘Hey, this is the story about someone who’s out as a lesbian and maybe it’s not that easy,’" Biegel says.
I am not the target audience, though I guess there's mild interest in that they snuck in a second Great Lakes Avenger with Mister Immortal.

Looks like Captain Marvel has found her directors. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will be telling Brei Larson what to do. Anna and Ryan have worked together on the 2008 baseball drama Sugar, 2010's It's Kind Of A Funny Story and 2015's Mississippi Grind, none of which I even knew existed until reading the Variety article. It's not uncommon for Marvel Studios to pick relative unknowns for their projects, so who knows.

There has been a sighting of a sign for the set for "Tiara 2." Now, you may or may not know or remember, but Tiara was the code name for Netflix's Luke Cage. Also showing up are some audition tapes for "Tiara 2," for the roles of "Mary" and "Byron," on Vimeo (Youtube but not), and "Ingrid" for "Violet 2," which was Jessica Jones. That's a lot of quotation marks. If these are true then we should be seeing Jessica, Luke, and Matt in 2018.

First trailer for Freeform's Cloak & Dagger. Moody is about the only word I can muster for it. None of it is really all that surprising. Tween drama, but at least they feature Tyrone's signature cloak and Tandy's signature Light Dagger at the end. And show a Roxxon sign.

Will Smith is reportedly in early talks to voice (or be) Genie in the live action Aladdin. I don't think anyone is going to be able to get past the Robin Willaims Genie to give Big Willie a chance. I know I'm probably way too into Mork & Genie to give the Fresh Djinn of Agrabah a chance. Then again, I'm drawing a complete blank on anyone that could take on the role. Hopefully Disney rewrites the character completely to better fit Smith and not try to recapture what made Williams great in that role. You know, basically playing himself.

Leslie Uggams is reportedly set to reprise her role as Blind Al in Deadpool 2. I liked her in the first movie, but there wasn't much of her there to like or dislike. Maybe they'll bring in "The Box."

When asked why the Grandmaster isn't blue in Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi explained that he didn't want the negative association that would come from a previous movie Goldblum did where he was also painted blue; Earth Girls Are Easy. Kind of a lame reason when there's a perfectly good "He's aesthetically similar to The Collector" just sitting right there.

If you didn't pay attention to the Guardians Red Carpet event, Variety found Joss Whedon and asked him about Batgirl. According to him he's "in a dialog" with Batgirl, whatever that means, and isn't really looking at casting Barbara Gordon at the moment. When pressed he says he'd rather an unknown and doesn't really want a big name... unless it's Vin Diesel.

Twitter Video

Speaking of twitter videos, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2: The Soundtrack gets a retro commercial, which also explains where all those dancing gifs from months ago came from.
