Same, I've never actually heard Zuckerberg talk, so I didn't know if they were making fun of his voice, or what the whole "You can't block me!" thing was. I really just assumed they phoned this one in, and just took the previous "Coon and Friends" superhero commercial and spliced in some quickly dubbed meme-type jokes about Zuckerberg and Fake News to make it topical.

Edit: Cartman's superhero name is censored.

That can't possibly be a surprise. Smiley: tongue I assumed (most likely incorrectly, at that) that the whole "You can't block me!" thing was something about people's ability to block other users on Facebook, and somehow Zuckerberg's posts, well, can't be?

Director Josh Boone just confirmed on Instagram that we'll see the first footage from his upcoming X-Men spinoff, New Mutants tomorrow at midnight PT/3am ET/8am UK time. Kind of convenient it'll be Friday the 13th, when it's expected the movie itself will borrow heavily/be based on the Demon Bear saga, which was about as horror as a cape comic can get at the time. Which I'll most likely post here because that's what I do.

Also want to point out that Blink has the best teleport effects on TV, followed by Lockjaw, and finally Cisco and his weird cloud portals. Flash's special effects in general are wonky to the point of hilarity, like when he was running up the windmill it's basically just two frames of animation.

And here is that New Mutants trailer. Definitely a different tone than the rest of the FoX-Men franchise.

The Gifted has so much better CG than Inhumans. That propane tank explosion in Inhumans... that was some Z Nation season 1 level CG there.

Young Princess is gonna fall for the first Human to touch her...

And tattooed statistics guy's situation has me going "Huh?" a bit. I get now that he hit his head his calculations and future-vision is all messed up. But how would he have slipped in the first place? He would (should) have been able to see the slip and avoided it like he had the attack before he left the Moon.

Black Panther trailer. Not a particular fan of how T'challa and Killmonger's costumes are identical.

Trying to find something to watch on TV in Germany. I don't think I'll ever understand EU Cable. Italy was just as strange.

Stumbling thru it all, I found Comedy Central, and it was airing Bob's Burgers. But Bob's Burgers without Jon Benjamin or the kids' English voices (especially Gene and Louise) just doesn't work.

WiFi here is not great... and IT "upgraded" my work phone to an international data plan... of a whopping 250MB Roaming Data per month. First day I used 50MB. Coworkers all agreed it was too little. I have to turn it on to use Roaming Data just so it will download text messages and then turn it back off.

Maybe I'll find some late afternoon/night German Boobs on TV. I always hear about how they are more open with nudity on TV.

Got around to watching The Tick. The wife dropped out after the second episode but I liked it and appreciated that they tried to do something a little different than pure slapstick and farce. I probably only laughed out loud once or twice an episode but I was amused and interested throughout. I did think that episodes five and six started to gel better comedicly. Looking forward to the second half of the season dropping "soon".

Minor gripe: The "Is that a suit or is he naked?" thing didn't work so well in this episode. The animated version was visually simple and the Fox version has that foam suit with no obvious seams or breaks. But this suit is obviously cloth with armor plates on it. You can see his sleeves, for heaven's sake.

I suppose the suit itself is more visually consistent with Arthur's suit (which I do like over the bunny pajamas) but it doesn't make that one joke work.

I wondered the same thing back when watching the pilot. The only thing I can think is that something about being on Earth instead of the Moon is messing with his abilities somehow. Gravity? Electromagnetic fields? Different rotational speed? Coriolis effect? Air density? Butterfly flapping its wings somewhere? Dunno. It's theoretically possible that someone who calculates every minute detail in his head could be seriously thrown off by something that normal people would never notice. That makes a lot more sense to me than "he bumped his head". Also, he presumably will be able to adjust to this over time.

I am glad that Medusa and Black Bolt actually got back together this episode. It felt for a moment like they were going to have her show up just after he escaped. Which would have generated serious rage.

Now I don't even care what Luke Cage Season 2 is going to be about, I just want this hoodie.

Speaking of Netflix, looks like Marvel has (in an amusing turn of phrase) fired shots at DC by releasing Netflix's Punisher on November 17th, in direct contention with Justice League. It's not really much of anything since you can spend most of the day watching Netflix then go to the theater to see the movie and finish off with some more Netflix, since, you know, that's how Netflix works.

ABC is looking at a new comedy from Larry Wilmore and Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef. According to the synopsis: The untitled series centers on the Sharif family, an ordinary Middle Eastern American family with two superhero parents at a time when it’s illegal to be a superhero, so they are forced to save the world in secret. The show will highlight some of the issues that immigrant families face when it comes to fitting into a society that at many times treats you like the enemy.

Which I guess means it'll be like Black-ish, but more Middle Eastern and laser eyes. The description sounds almost word for word like the X-Men. I imagine between this and the Greatest American Hero reboot they're testing the waters for a Kamala Kahn Ms Marvel show of some sort. At the very least the endless number of conspiracy theorists going off on tangents about propaganda should be amusing.

The Venom spin-off, with Tom Hardy, has apparently started production. They're taking that joke a little too far, but Sony isn't the type of production company that learns.

Justice League is officially 121 minutes long, in case that's a factor to your decision making. Now the question is how much was left on the cutting floor that would make the movie better paced and will be restored for the Special Extended Edition Blu-Ray.

If they can avoid being heavy handed with the whole "let's conflate discrimination and bias against super powered people with discrimination and bias against middle eastern immigrants" bit, I'd have no problem with it. Given the statement above, I have a feeling that wont be the case. The irony is that if they just cast people of various ethnicities/nationalities without making them walking stereotypes, designed to be slotted into some kind of PSA format, there just might be less of the very bias they play at opposing.

The flip side: Just once I'd like to see a show centering around an immigrant family where the focus was on all the benefits to them and their lives as a result of the decision to come to the US. Outside of throwaway joke lines, it's hard to find examples of such characters actually talking about all the social and economic opportunities they now have, the greater social freedoms they have, lack of fear of death squads, etc. We sometimes forget that our own self evaluation of our treatment of immigrants is based on our own standards. Which are ridiculously high relative to those in most of the world, especially the countries where many of these immigrants come from.

We wring our hands because occasionally someone might say something negative towards someone in reference to their nation of origin, make some kind of slur statement, or even more rarely *gasp* do something harmful to them, like vandalism. That's a pretty far cry from parts of the world where you get beheaded for being the wrong ethnicity, or religion, or you get locked up and "disappeared" for speaking the wrong things, or even just being accused of such (usually by some other poor sap picked up and tortured into revealing names of others who are thinking/saying things against the local regime of the day).

It's not all duckies and bunnies here in the US, but it's not all machetes and rape rooms either.

Like Fox & Friends?

According to Variety, Ben Mendelsohn is currently in talks to play the lead villain opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel. Safe bet would be the leader of the Skrulls, since they're also rumored to be the main bad guys, but I'm certain not going to bet it's Marcus Immortis because, ha yeah right no one will ever make a movie out of Avengers #200..

Jeremy Renner spotting walking around wearing a pair of black and gold boots, all but confirming his becoming Ronin for Avengers 4.

Yesterday James Mangold officially said he has begun working on a story outline for a spin-off movie revolving around Dafne Keen's X-23. Today, screenwriter Craig Kyle (who recently worked on Thor: Ragnarok, and, oh, was responsible for creating her for Marvel in the first place) announce he has been onboard working on it as well. Hopefully they find a way to introduce her into the "proper" X-Men timeline, since there's not really much left in the future Logan timeline. Also, much like Avengers #200 they'll certainly avoid the whole child prostitution thing.

Vincent D'Onofrio will be returning for next season's Daredevil, which pretty much smacks the rumor-o-meter that the next storyline to be adapted will be "Born Again" to about 96.4%. Which probably means and it should go without saying this is pure speculation with zero confirmation: half the season will be dedicated to Karen Page's backstory finally being examined, and then she ded. Which, if the other rumor about her are true (that there'll be a love interest subplot for The Punisher) and she's it ... well, I won't be upset to see her go. Also, Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez are out as showrunners, most likely due to the underwhelming performance of The Defenders, and they'll be replaced by Erik Oleson. Some cause for concern, as he's credited with executive producing some episodes of Arrow, which is a show that is so inconsistent with it's quality that it's really tough to noodle out if it really is a bad thing or not. But Vincent was great as Fisk, and hopefully the Hand storyline is over.

New Hulu The Runaways trailer, now featuring 25.53% more Old Lace. Why is Molly so tall? ... compared to her comic version, that is. And only wearing a hat half the time? The lack of hats is really what gets to me.

Orville was a painful episode. Also, less than 5 votes to Lobotomy? No way trolls don't exist in that society and wouldn't down vote just for fun. So unbelievable... Smiley: oyvey

I'm still so far behind on these shows. And now Strange Things season 2 is out tomorrow and Super Mario Odyssey.

My dvr didn't record it so I'm taking it as a sign the little black box is trying to save my life. I've been avoiding posting about episodes because you were away from it, but as far as television is concerned you should start catching up with Gotham first, then Legends of Tomorrow, and then Flash, then everything else because the rest is pretty awful. Nygma and Grundy are so hammy that every scene they're in is borderline amazing.

Danny Trejo is on next week's episode of The Flash, which is reason enough for me. And we're already two episodes in and Barry hasn't ruined the timeline, so that's an improvement.

Preacher has been renewed for a third season, so that should cover some of Jesse's crazy family, though I can't imagine they'll ever really explore TC's more ... amorous pursuits. We already haven't gotten any Bob and Freddy or Miss Oatlash, and a ridiculously watered down Odin Quincannon. Then again we did get Humperdido the Messiah ...

Apparently there's a third Ace Ventura movie in the works, if the last decade was long enough to make you forget the second movie.

Next week Thor: Ragnarok, which all initial critiques say is a fun movie to watch, and two weeks after that Justice League, which all initial critiques don't exist yet.

Literally just announced that Zachery Levy (Flynn Rider from Tangled, Fandral in Thor: Dark World) will be Captain Marvel in DCEU's Shazam. He can certainly portray a thirteen year old personality so no problem there, but unless he hits the gym like a redheaded stepchild he's about a third of the size of the character.

I'm almost caught up. I'm up to date on Flash, Inhumans, Gifted, Gotham, Lucifer.

Gotham has been kind of gruesome. Inhumans is still noticeably lower budget than Gifted. Last night's Gifted ending was a bit of a tear jerker. Now he has to relive losing his daughter all over again. What little acceptance he had is gone.

Still catching up on Legends (I have one and a half episodes left) Supergirl (2), and Arrow (3).

I'm on episode 6 or 7 of Stranger Things over the weekend. Would have finished it off but my dad came over on Sunday and he and my mom watch it so I figured I wouldn't spoil it by watching it while he was there.

I played a lot of Super Mario Odyssey over the weekend. It is pretty fun. I didn't play the Galaxy and Sunshine games, but played a lot of Mario 64, and they seem to have gone the safe route, it's very reminiscent of 64. I don't see anything out of the ordinary with the game, nothing new. Lots of little puzzles and hidden secrets to collect your Stars Moons.

Outside the end with the grenade inside the dude I thought Professor Pyg was kind of a let down. He was just placing pig masks on corpses and not stitching them on or anything. And yeah, as far as The Gifted is concerned I can barely imagine losing a child, and the idea of losing them twice is completely unfathomable. If Coby Bell could have been reasoned with before, that option is completely gone now. My newest rant about Inhumans is that Karnak said he went through terrigenesis, which is completely not the case. His parents refused to let him because terrigen turned his brother into a human fish and they didn't want to see Karnak wrecked like that. He's a badass through meditation and skill. Like Batman. So yeah, add it to the pile of why the show is trash.

I'll probably be seeing Thor: Ragnarok Friday. Like, 63.54% certainty.

As to Gifted, I can't figure out if erasing that memory was intentional, or an accident. What exactly was she trying to do? Seemed like she was supposed to be focusing on getting information about Pulse and what happened to him, so how did she manage to erase such a specific memory (and presumably all references to that memory after the fact) while failing to get complete information about what she was actually supposed to be looking for? Not sure about the character though. Maybe she just likes abusing her power? Or did the writers just need an excuse to make characters on all sides more sympathetic. IMO, they were already going that just fine, so I'm not sure if this was necessary from a storytelling pov.

Dunno. The whole thing just seemed random.

Oh. And another thing about Gifted: What was the deal about invisible guy causing such a problem? I mean, I get it. Drama. But it was pretty obvious that Reed had made a decision to *not* lead Sentinel Services to the mutants, going as far as jumping out of a moving van to avoid this. I get being a bit suspicious, or even annoyed that the guy was thinking/planning on selling them out. Maybe some dialog or discussion of the issue, to air it out or something would have been appropriate. But his actions just seemed way over the top to me.

Again, the guy jumped out of moving van to avoid leading the bad guys to your headquarters. If he was a real plant, instead of just a conflicted person trying to save his family, all he had to do back then was sit in his seat. Most people can noodle this out. If anything, I'd have expected invisible guy to be the one voice speaking up for Reed in response to others accusing him for being involved with prosecuting many of their friends and family members for being mutants. He saw Reed make the choice to protect the mutants, where no one else did.

Dunno. Just seemed like they chose to focus on the wrong side of things. Again though, I get it from a storytelling pov. You need to have that one guy who's suspicious, then put that same one guy in the position of having to save the guy he's suspicious of. You know... for drama. And have him come around in the end, so we can all feel a sense of relief. It did seem a bit overplayed to me though.

Honestly, that's far and away the least problematic aspect of the show. The whole thing is just... off. Which is sad, because I really really did want to like the show. It's not even like it's just one thing, either. It's a bunch of little things that add up (ok, and a couple big ones, like whole swaths of character motivation that's just plain missing, or arbitrary, or nonsensical).

Also, maybe it's just me, but I get the distinct impression that the entire decision to have Medusa's hair cut was because they couldn't get the special effect down (or didn't have the budget to deal with it well). Probably a better choice than going forward with it if they couldn't do it right, but it makes me suspect that they got a bit bailed on at some point in production and had to make adjustments (well, and we know this based on how much the project bounced around and changed over time).

I blame "moving target" for a lot of the problems with the show.
