Didn't bother me that much though. It provided a bit of break from all the serious business going on. Can't be too serious.
Had the character been funny it might have worked. But he wasn't at all funny. He was annoying and scratchy.

Oh. And I forgot to mention. The whole bit about two dwarves casually commenting that they'll deal with the 100 goblins was an awesome reference for anyone who's played lots of RPGs. PCs do that sort of thing all the time, so the though process for me was like "that's crazy to take on that many!" followed instantly by "but exactly what I'd have my characters do/say". Dunno. I liked it.
I thought the same thing. I'd been pushing my Monk-girl up the torment difficulty levels in Diablo3. Killing hundreds of mobs with just a helper is what you do.

Where did they get those riding goats from when they charged up to kill Azog?

And they waited patiently in the midst of a raging battle until they were needed.

They were probably fighting. I doubt these were skittish, since they were Dwarven war creatures.

Tolkien was pretty sparse with his descriptions in a lot of cases throughout his books. He was great at broad historical stuff, but pretty terrible at describing single events. I don't really have a problem with a film version filling in those details. I don't recall a sled pulled by bunnies mentioned anywhere either.

He'd have been great as a travel brochure writer.

I think the goats are Turbine lore. I believe they were introduced to LotRO with the Mines of Moria expansion.

I don't think Tolkien ever mentioned a goat mount.

Hah! Yup. Places and their history? Great. People and their actions/decisions? Not so much.

I loved Tolkien's maps. In fact, when I was just a lass and had finished up the Trilogy, I went searching for more reading material by looking for books with maps in them.

He set the standard. If it doesn't have a map, it's not a good fantasy book.
