sounds to me like a bottleneck effect would have a lot of the same people reproducing with each other thereby causing a decrease in genetic diversity and a "shallowing of the gene pool". im not positive thought but it sounds logical

Ok, If I am remembering this correctly, the bottleneck causes an overall shrinking of the entire reproductive population (hence, the small part of the bottle). This would eventually decrease the diversity in the population. Hope that helps some.
