I have a Wii and lot's of Miis. My Wii hasn't been getting much action which surprises me since I waited so long for Zelda. I just haven't been able to get into it. Same as FF12. Really disappointing.
I think back to the good times I spent playing through Final Fantasy VIII for the first time or playing Crystal Chronicles with my friends. It's sad to think that I may never feel that passion again, I can't feel that passion again. I've grown up and it hurts to think that innocence may be gone forever, no way to get it back.
I wonder sometimes if I still feel this way if I never played FFXI. I think the answer is no, and it hurts even more. Has FFXI ruined my perspective on games, has it stolen precius time I could have spent on single player games, would I have had the time to be absorbed in the story.

When I was younger I used to be REALLY into videogames too. As I got older though, I didn't play them as much. I was in the same boat as you. Games just weren't very appealing to me anymore. Only a select few would I find fun to play. But even then, a game can only last a certain amount of hours before it starts to get boring.
I too got kinda sad about how I used to be so into videogames and how awe inspiring some of them were, and how fun they were. I got kinda sad 'cause everything just lost its spark.
I noticed how my roomate when ever he got back from class used to play FFXI all the time. He said it was really fun, and I'd watch him play every once in a while. The game piqued my interest, as I liked the graphics, gameplay, massive world, and being able to cooperate with a ton of people at the same time. Eventually I started playing it and couldn't stop. Nothing else was fun for me anymore other than FFXI.
Once you start playing MMORPGs, your standards raise. A MMORPG can last you years because of how massive it is. A single player game (like an RPG) will usually only last you about 100hrs before it starts getting boring. So yea, after playing FFXI, my standards have raised, and I don't really find any other games to be appealing to me. Right now I'm really enjoying WoW. I think ever since I started playing FFXI 2 yrs ago, I'm really only a MMORPG gamer now.
I don't think you should be upset yoshi. I think your standards have raised ever since you played FFXI and I think thats normal. After FFXI dies out for you, I think you should play other MMORPG's. Just don't let the stuff affect your RL (I noticed you mentioned something about that in your post). Try and have some self restraint when playing the games and all will be good.

I think the main problem is, as you get older, you have a lot more freedom with your gaming, so whatever game you get is less special to you. Back in the day when you got FF8, you were like... 14 years old, it was a big deal to you. But you're 19 ( just saying random numbers ) years old and you buy your own games, so they're less special since you can basically get as much as you want.
I mean, I just got 7 games in 3 months, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 12, Xenosaga 3, Makai Kingdom, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Phantom Brave, and Shadow of the Colossus and to be honest... I don't really care.
