Ok so I have a wireless ISP, two PS2's, ffxi and all the expansions, two 3G routers and the works.

Proto said that Square Enix charges players a monthly fee per character. Anyone know how i would go about paying that bill so i can go ahead and start?

and do i need anything else to start? i dnt wanna get ready to play and then find out i overlooked some detail...

When you create a SquareEnix account and have your character linked to it, you can then add Crysta to your account. Crysta is SE's money system. You have a couple options for adding Crysta- Click&Buy, UltimatePay, and Ultimate Game Cards (pre-paid cards you can get in some stores). After you convert your real money to SE's fake money you should be ready to go.

As a note - if you live in the US and you pick to buy the Crysta with "UltimatePay," you can add in your old credit card like you used to.

Dont confuse this with automatic paying, though - every month you ahve to go in and buy more crysta.

Thankx a ton guys. I am now posting from my home computer with the 3G service that i just now managed to connect. i couldnt have done it without the help of all the great people on this site.

Proto says hi and in a minute she is going to create an account on here and talk to you herself. for now she is getting ready for a christmas party

Now i have just one problem. I thought i had ffxi and all the expansions, but the guy at "The Game King" screwed me over. told me he ordered them two weeks ago but found out yesterday that, not only did he not order them, he told me the wrong price (about 70 dollars cheaper than im actually going to have to pay)

so if you guys could extend your help to me and Proto once more we would really appreciate it. our questions are:

1.) Is there a place close to my area (Williamsburg, KY 40769) where we can just go get the game? we have checked with the local gamestores, walmart, most pawn shops and no luck. any ideas?

2.) If not, what is the best site to buy the game and the expansions? what is the FASTEST site to recieve the product from? Ive been waiting a month on this and i would like to play ASAP. By tomorrow, if possible. lol

Direct download sites:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term=Ffxi

http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XI-Ultimate-Collection/dp/B004V9QC80

You won't get physical disks, but you will have the ability to download from anywhere you go. It's exactly the same otherwise.

Great!!

questions:

1.) I only have 5 gigs of useage for the whole month. i didnt click on the link yet cuz i wasnt sure how much useage it would take. is it safe to download it frm my own network or wait and go somewhere else and download it?

2.)can i download it straight to my ps2? if so, how?

3,) Will i need some kind of registration code or key code from ffxi? Proto said its what we need to make our account or something...

1. That's a good question. Updates don't take a ton of space/bandwidth, but not sure what the full download uses. However that point may be moot because...

2. I forgot you are on PS2. >_< May have to go the physical disk route after all. In fact, the last version they released for PS2 was the non-Abyssea Ultimate collection (all expansions, no add-ons).

Hmmmmm...

Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong here, but this is what I'd do-
•Find a copy of FFXI Ultimate Edition for PS2. New or used, doesn't matter as long as it contains Zilart, CoP, ToAU, and WotG. The important part is the disks, so you might be able to find a copy cheap that has used/invalid reg codes.
•Buy a copy from a download site as well. You won't actually download anything, you're buying this for the reg codes (they aren't platform dependent. Any North American reg code works).

This may be a cheaper option than getting a set of physical disks brand new, which are pretty rare as I understand it. See if you can find a copy of it somewhere, add in the cost of a download purchase (again- only for the reg codes), and see if it ends up cheaper than what your game store is charging you.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas to you!

Yea, i figured as much. Nothing has been easy with this game so far, so why start now? lol.

Your idea seems fine to me so i guess thats the route ill go. I will, however, have to make two slight variations to it due to financial issues lol. After spending $500 dollars to install internet, the PS2 wifi adaptors, updates to my computer, etc., im kinda short on cash so i wont be able to get the ultimate collection just yet. So we ordered just the Rise of Zilart for both PS2s and we will start there and expand later.

Because we have two PS2s and will therefore have two seperate accounts, will we need two registration codes? And after we buy the download version(s), how do we access the registration code(s) from it without downloading it?

And congratulations btw, Proto told me.

You will - however if you buy it from the direct download sites (I think I bought mine off steam iirc) they will email you one registration code. You can use that code for ANY system - pc, ps2, or xbox. So if you need a code for the PS2, just buy the direct download and dont download it - just get the reg code from the email.

It should be sent in an email to you.

If you have the PS2 disks you are golden. Install it on both PS2s with that old disk, then buy two new reg codes and use them to start new characters.

The Abyssea expansions dont have disks - I think you just purchase them on one of the screens and it just "unlocks" it for you. I dont even think I ever got a code for the Abyssea expansions.
