New LS: Freelancer.Follow

Final Fantasy 11 is a great game. I enjoy it a great deal. I have met some really cool people that i enjoy spending time with...but it seems that this is a rarity. Most of the people i have met (not naming any names) are more self serving and greed oriented than i like to encounter. Because of this, i have decided to do what i can to inspire people the other way.

Freelancer was named after a line in a song that i had in my head when i decided to start the LS, {if you want to know more about it google for champloo lyrics battlecry) We belive that you should help others when you can, because you can, not for what you can get out of it. This does not mean you should become a slave to others needs or anything. It just means that when the choice comes between lending a hand or being an asshat you choose the former and not the latter. To us its not enough to just be cool to your LS mates and screw everyone else. We hope to become examples for others to follow on what it is to be a 'good' player. This might seem pretentious but we dont mean it that way.

I rather doubt that Freelancer will ever have a huge number of members. We are only interested in those that really do enjoy helping others. As we all gain in levels and rank, we will be able to help more...so being low level is not an issue. Most of our members have had bad experiences with LS's or people in the past, and a couple of us used to be 'asshats' and are trying to reform ourselves.

For a few days now I've wanted to post something to this thread, and explain a bit about our LS and what it means to me, but hadn't yet done so. I guess it was just difficult to find a way to convey how large an impact the small differences here make.

After an evening of not being able to find a party of my level in Kazham, I decided to spend some time crystal farming and level thief on my own at the same time. A potentially boring prospect, to be sure, but luckily I was able to pass the time chatting with Karril and the other members of Freelancer. Hours later, I found myself refreshed by the experience. Yes, refreshed even though I had been stymied in my efforts of leveling my main job and instead was tediously killing Orcs and Lizards.

I truly value being able to have the support of like-minded individuals, and not have to endure the contempt and lack of consideration shown to new players. Not to have to listen to tirades devolving into vulgar names being tossed about just because of someone's choice of subjob or equipment. Not to be inundated by stereotypes and prejudices arising from a lazy disregard for the feelings and opinions of others.

It seems that for far too many people the worth of another player or oneself is based on one's *current* rank, level, job, gil or equipment. That if someone is more advanced in regards to the game, this somehow makes them superior to anyone else. And likewise ridiculing new players, or those who are still learning the system. Everyone was new once, and these new players have the potential to become great players, if just treated with compassion.

I knew it was time to leave my old linkshell when other players delighted in stories of MPKing "n00bs", or instituting recruitment policies based on level or rank. These things a good player does not make.

That's the draw to Freelancer for me. We are more concerned with the *quality* of a person's character, rather than the attributes or abilities of their in game avatar. This is a game, and will never be more than that. The point of a game should be the mutual enjoyment of all. And to that end we will work tirelessly. Not just to the benefit of our LS, but to be a positive force in the game and here on the forums. To raise the level of discourse, and to help those scorned players find reason to keep playing so that they might one day develop and make their own positive contribution to our world.

Play the game to the fullest, and leave the world a better place as you pass through it.

I'm pleased with the way things have been going recently. Based on our unique viewpoint and recruiting methodologies, we're growing slowly, but we are growing. I like that people who've seen what we do in game or our posts on the forums are approaching us to ask if they can join. Because it is so important to us that we all share the same set of core values, everyone who joins is the responsibility of the pearlsack holder who gave them the pearl, and is observed for a while on joining.

Congratulations and thanks (somewhat belated in some cases) to Sulin, Derolak, Pickle, Academia, Cassanova, and others, for asking to join us, and welcome to Freelancer.

We are getting to the point that we are starting to set up regular BCNMs, in addition to getting people keys and unlocking subjobs. We're still small, but we are growing without diluting.

I am finding this out to be true myself. Sometimes even when people have the M before their names and you ask a question you don't get an answer. I won't say this for all of them but I get tired of being ignored the great majority of the time when I need help.

My problem too is that I don't have a keyboard for the ps2 yet and don't want to disconnect the one from my computer so using that on screen keyboard is so darn slow. Sometimes it takes too long for me to respond to people and they walk away. I wish I would get that keyboard very soon. I have a cable connection to the internet with Road Runner so I have to hook the game up right to the modem and disconnect my computer. I am solving this by getting a router, ordered one from hp.

I did disconnect my wireless mouse from my computer and put the optical mouse back on it so I can use the wireless to play with the wireless keyboard for ps 2. Has anyone else had to go out and purchase all this additional equipment? I bought a controller with a built in keyboard but the darn thing is defective and some of the keys don't work so I am stuck with it.

What I should have done was buy the version of ff XI to play on the computer instead of getting the HDD and then the network adapter. Just bought a new computer so I have more memory on this one and could have played it on this one and avoided all this extra stuff to buy.

What I am worried about with the game is that when I reach level 10 I can find a party to join up with so I can do some of the missions. It's impossible to do that mission to deliver supplies to the outpost alone. Those Ocr's with the axes don't let you near the place and kill you off pretty quickly. At least I lost that question mark over my head the day before yesterday but now I don't know what the money bag thing is over my head about.

Let's hope there are more people coming into the game that are in it for the fun of it and are willing to help out people when they are in need. This is a game where you really need help because the guide sure isn't any help. It doesn't even have the explanation for those icons over people's heads in it. The maps aren't too swift either and don't show where some things are or tell you how to do things. There is so much left for you to figure out yourself if no one will help you.

It took me over 10 hours of the game time to realize I had to click onto the shelf in front of the auction house window to be able to put things up for sale. I was waiting for the window to open, who knew?

You sure are a breath of fresh air. My greatest fear is that when I have leveled up enough to join a party to do some quests or whatever no one will want me. I notice there are so many people on here who are high levels and when it some time for me to request to join a party I'll only be level 13 and because of this I'm afraid everyone will ignore me.

I wanted to play this game so badly because I love the ff series. This is my first playonline experience and it can be a bit intimadating at times. This leveling up is taking forever and I know I am going to ask for help or to join a party. Right now I can't even really talk to people while I'm playing because I bought one of those controllers with the keyboard built into it and it's not working right. Because I have a cable internet connection I had to order a wireless keyboard and wish it would get here because I don't want people thinking I don't want to talk with anyone while I'm playing the game.

That darn on screen keyboard is in the abc format and I cannot get use to it and it takes forever to try to type something. People end up walking away from me in the game because it takes too long to answer them because it's so darn slow. When I get the wireless keyboard then I'll be able to type as I do on here and on the computer, which is very fast. Some people must think I am ignoring them while I am having a bad time trying to type them a message that is taking me forever to do. I don't want people thinking that. It's worse when I try to use the keyboard built in on the controller that I bought, it does it's own thing and I can't control it.

When you read posts such as yours it makes you feel more encouraged that not everyone will shun someone with a low level when it comes to joining a party. This is my biggest fear. I'm trying so darn hard to learn this game and it is impossible to do it without asking questions. I have given up trying to ask people while I am playing the game for the time being but I do come on here to get help.

When I get the wireless keyboard for the ps 2 it will be a different story but right now I am struggling because I don't have it and hope people don't think I am ignorning them because of the problems I am having with that on screen keyboard.

urrr few words about the linkshell..

It rocks!!! I've never seen a linkshell with so many friendly people, it means alot to me being a part of Freelancer, A few seconds after I joined I was offered help to get my Kazham keys and got them in the next 2 days^^,

Although I have noticed recently that members are becoming less active on the linkshell and I'd hate to see a great linkshell fall apart, so if you're online, use the linkshell =)

Even though we're a fairly small linkshell yet, I'd thought I'd give an update. Lately we've been busy on Hades working on opening advanced jobs for members, helping with missions, and leveling our subjobs.

I was talking to Karril the other day and it came up that the members of Freelancer are like minded. We're always willing to help out, for examle, getting off of our chocobos to help someone being chased by orcs or quadavs, directing nonlinkshell members complete quests, going out of the way to help linkshell members.

We've gotten a few more members this week, and we're always open to new members.

Hi guys, my first post here, just like to say, nice one for what you guys are trying, thats how I like to play too.
I've been in some really bad LS too, I have spent so many hours helping others, and have been shocked at the number of people asking how much I charge to help. If you'd have me I'd like to join your Shell, am on most evenings to help if anyone needs anything..Oh yeah, I'm PLD34.

Not much to say this week, other than we added another couple of really good people to our family and Tashumashu (who has been gone for a long time) Finally came back to us. Its great to have you around again, little man.

Started leveling whm to sub for my Beastmaster and let me tell you, i have new found respect for anyone that walks the path of the Whitemage...damn you guys rock.

hey everyone^^, I haven't been on the linkshell recently because of a few things

I'm currently doing the Rivalry quest on my other character so I haven't been using my main character who has the linkshell, If someone near Sandy could give me (Wubbles) the Freelancer ls that would be great^^

I hope to have the quest done soon and come back to my main char with an extra 5mil in the bag (hopefully) ^^

This week....lets see. Gained a few new members (Hello to you all!) its been a pretty strange week with all the outages and whatnot but most of us have done just fine. Took 4 or so of us down to valkrum and leveled like crazy all night last night, laifierr even helped keep us alive everyone had alot of fun. (got to keep those subjobs and subjobs's subjobs leveled) Finally saved up enough to get a brigandine +1 (those of you that are in the LS have heard me bitching about not being able to find one) and even tracked someone down who sold me it today (wootness!) Tashumashu seems to have joined the missing again, but thats only becasue his job is so time consuming.

Agilegroundhog is having alot of trouble finding parties for his 50+ thf so if any of you see him around give him some encouragement ok?

That's exactly the case. Just taking a quick moment to check in while on a break at work. Good to hear that everyone's been busy and doing well. I'm expecting to be able to be on Sunday evening starting around 11pm PST. Hopefully I'll see you guys then!

In the last few days there has been a disturbing trend. People seeing that some of us have nice gear or whatnot and wanting to join freelancer because of that. (You guys are so rich, let me join!) Chances are, if you join Freelancer you wont get rich. In fact you will probibly be alot poorer than you would otherwise. We dont belive in price gouging, we give equipment to people, we spend alot of our time helping eachother and others instead of out farming and whatnot.

Freelancer isnt about having the most shiny armor or most badass weapon. Its about wanting to make a difference by helping others. Hopefully inspiring others to want to help also.

If you /do/ end up getting in, and find out that we arent exactly your kind of LS thats fine. Feel free to join one of the other really great Ls's out there...we arent going to get angry with you. But if helping isnt your thing you wont last long with us.

Drk, you've peaked my interest in leveling brd again. ^^ Now that I almost have a full sub for it (whm 36), maybe I'll level it again. :D

Wow this has been a crazy week. Alot of new people have joined, most of them in the 50+ range. (Guys its great to have you all!) Its funny to read back the first few posts and see how i never thought many people would want to join Freelancer...then go look at linklist and see it scroll.

Its important though that even with our new influx of members we dont lose sight of our original goals. We have lost alot of cool people along the way, first and foremost the wonderful (and very much missed) Mumblyfish. Mumbly, if you ever read this please drop us a line because we want to hear from you.

On a personal note, i have been leveling (of all things) rdm...its interesting and very different than the horror i went through trying to level whm. I gained a new found and deep respect for anyone that will dare level whm, belive me. Its a hard road.

Everyone congratulate Lupinia for soloing almost the entire rank 5 mission at level 33, she is one of the most stubborn people i have met and when she gets it into her head to do something herself you just cant pursuade her not to =p (Go Lupinia!)

I saw this last update from Unicornbonesaw and just had to comment given that I was the BST to which he refers.

Having been in the Gusgen Mines Basement for over two hours (without dying for a change) getting extremely good xp - for a BST pre-leave anyway :) - I think I had the perfect right to be more than slightly peeved when you guys came in and proceeded to kill every single Galnipper and even the Rancid Ooze in the room. This left me without even a single pet to fight the Feu Follets for quite a long time - so much so that I just gave up for the night (with only 1K of xp left until leveling....)

As a point of note to any other MNKs wanting to do their AF - please respect any BSTs you see in the Gusgen Mines getting xp. It takes the best part of 45 minutes to set up the basement suitable for xp chains as everything in the room aggro's so space has to be made to be able to manoeuvre around the room (and believe me you don't want to be anywhere near the Feu Follets when they decide to self destruct). Anyone else coming in and killing things in this manner simply messes everything up.

I would have gone in 10 minutes any way, but you guys kind of messed that up. I kind of forgive you - but please be nicer about it in future.

As an aside - here's a big thank you to all the friendly WHM miners in Gusgen (especially Angelbaby) - who have cured or raised me more times than I can count !!

yes i too apologize for the situation. we just have to understand each others point of reference, you were trying to xp and we were trying to kill the NM with as few as problems as possible. we were in and out fairly quick, but it so happened you were finishing your xping at the same time we were going in. it's a crappy situation, but it's one that comes up from time to time. so i apologize since it was for my AF1 and if you need help let me know (Drklighter) and i'll try my best to help. i don't like making enemies and you seem like a cool guy, so no hard feelings.

EDIT: yeah and Angelbaby does rock, raised our party member that died. thanks!

Just about everyone that you see in Freelancer will have a sack. After the trial period where i get to know you and see if you fit in wtih the group you will be given a sack also. (or not, as things may happen) If you dont get one, dont be insulted its just that im not very trusting and if i dont trust your judgement then i wont trust your judgement *chuckle*

Today was crazy. Too much stuff to even sort out in my mind right now. Grats Tear on reaching 50! (even though you are a bastard for not inviting me to that party!)


You know, i can go on and on talking about what Freelancer is about... but you know there are some people out there that just plain live the Freelancer code, and not all of them are even members. Agilegroundhog has time and time again proven that he will go above and beyond to help others, i have seen daesar and lupinia help people they have never seen before (or in once case they didnt even like) because it was the right thing to do. Today i met one of these people, his name is Toschiro. Great party leader, was a blm and we were leveling. 3 parties together all of them fell apart till the last one, both of us stuck it out and were trying our best. Then after he volenteers to help a bunch of people he doesnt know get thier G1 items. He was up until past 4am his time helping people.. great guy and if you see him give him a wave.

It always makes me smile seeing people help others, each is a link in the chain that keeps Hades server together. When you meet someone like that take the time to say thank you and try and put a smile on thier face. If people dont appriciate help then pretty soon the people giving it stop.

Ok I just felt like posting.. since I got some stuff on my brain I just dont want there anymore so just want to get it out.
Even how much I like to help others (I just plain think its fun) there is surtain things I dont help out with. Like helping you farm for money, and you dont need to be a anoyed at me for not doing this. Farming is easy and you dont need help with it, you only need abit of patience.

And another thing is that, It can take me time to type things sometime. Either because I dont know how to put it or I dont know the right words. I have been bitched before for saying something ‘wrong’ several times without meanin to. So just for you who dont know it, I’m from norway and not that super at english.

And yes I am morning grumpy and I’m NOT a mind reader >.> gee.

Hi, I'm new to the game and just started BLM. I'm only level 5, but this LS sounds like the kind of community I'd like to be apart of while I experience this great game. I know I won't be of much help, but I'd love to be a part of this group. My in-game name is: Brand. Give me a /tell sometime since I have no idea when any of you are on.

BTW, I loved Samurai Champloo and the Battlecry intro song ^^
