@saevellakshmi:

That explains it somewhat, but.... why did they make the job point gains so wonky? Everybody gets 1 action per turn, so why are some peoples' actions more valuable than others?

FF5 did something similarly stupid, instead of making some classes gain JP slower, they made it take more for a levelup instead for some jobs. At least they fixed the JP system by Final Fantasy Tactics, anyhow. All jobs got the same JP, and everybody needed the same to level; you just merely needed to buy abilities and those are what varied in JP cost.

But thanks for explaining it at any rate.

Awesome! Maybe I'll actually finally finish a playthrough of it if I can figure out its wonky-*** leveling system (which did not appear to make any sense whatsoever; sometimes group members who did almost nothing in combat got MORE XP than those who did all the work..... wut?) and such.

XP was just divided amongst all surviving party members. Your thinking of JP and the "Job Level" which is a hidden stat. Each "Action" gives a specific amount of JP per use but each job has a different amount of JP it gets for those actions. "Defend / Guard" is an action, so even if you had the White Mage "defend" every round, they would still get JP for it. Also you get a smaller amount of JP past level 14. The way you can "farm" JP at the end of the game is to go to the starter area's and get into a fight with the weak enemies. Kill all but one, then have everyone "defend" for 8~10 turns. Finish the fight and the total JP is awarded which is usually enough to cause everyone to Job Up. This technique is required for getting the JLevel 99 Job specific items.

That has the JP system in it.

It'd be nice to actually play this game without having the DS be a requirement.

The Original DS caused hand cramps because the actual physical size of the hand-held was too thin, but yet it was too heavy at the same time.

The 3DS XL is a little better, but the sheer weight of the thing forces one to be sitting (I usually fire up a hand-held system after I go to bed, while laying in bed). The GBA worked perfectly like this, the 3DS? Not so much.

But now it is coming out on Steam. Awesome! Maybe I'll actually finally finish a playthrough of it if I can figure out its wonky-*** leveling system (which did not appear to make any sense whatsoever; sometimes group members who did almost nothing in combat got MORE XP than those who did all the work..... wut?) and such.

But maybe without the hand cramps and squinting at the tiny screen, I can actually pay more attention to the game itself while playing it on the PC.

So... we got FF7, FF8, FF3... FFs 1, 2, and 4 are available easily on Emulator (minus the optional dungeons/ridiculously overpowered equipment), that only leaves 9 (which should be fairly easy to port), 10, 10-2, and 12 that they need to release on PC yet and we'd pretty much have the whole set available on PC!

Awesome.
Loved the DS remake of this game

Looks like it's the same 3D sprites here, but without the graininess that resulted from being on the DS's tiny tiny screen. Hi-res Luneth and Refia? I'll take it.
