Q & A on Chocobo Raising

Greetings to the readers of Allakhazam from the FINAL FANTASY XI team! We would like to thank everyone for their comments regarding the recent announcement outlining the soon-to-be introduced system for raising chocobos. We are sure that many of you are wondering just what this new system will entail. The development team would like to take this opportunity to answer some of your questions and give a clearer picture of what's in store. The Q&A section has been organized in the following manner: -Questions common to all the premiere sites in Japan, North America, and Europe. -Questions specific to the premiere sites of each region mentioned above. Images: Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Questions common to all regions: Q. How do you go about obtaining a chocobo egg? A. We plan on having several different methods for obtaining eggs. Please be assured that these methods will not require you to form an alliance or anything of that scale; however, there will be varying degrees of difficulty. Q. Will it be necessary to log in every day in order to take care of my chocobo? Or will it resemble the Fellow system in flexibility? A. Logging in every day would certainly strengthen the bonds between you and your chocobo. However, as the chocobo raising system will involve the cooperation of each nation's chocobo stable employees, your chocobo will receive the basic level of care even if you are too busy to tend to it yourself. We suggest checking in on your chocobo at least once a week. Q. Will there be chocobos of different colors? Will a chocobo's color change as it gets older? A. We're still keeping the exact colors a secret, but we will tell you that there is definitely more than one color. The color of a chocobo will not change once it has been decided. Q. What kind of things will I have to do to raise my chocobo? A. A more detailed explanation will be given at a later date, but raising a chocobo will involve actions such as feeding and other simple tasks. Questions from Japan: Q. Will there be any prerequisites for raising a chocobo? Will high-level players have an advantage over low-level players? A. Anyone with an egg can begin raising a chocobo, although special, difficult-to-obtain eggs will naturally be more accessible to high-level players. Chocobo matchmaking will give low-level players the chance to obtain eggs of the same level of rarity. Q. Can my chocobo die? A. No, your chocobo cannot die. However, there is a limit to the length of time a chocobo can be under your care. Questions from North America: Q. After matching two chocobos, to whom will the resulting egg belong? A. Both chocobo owners should find themselves pleased with the matchmaking results. Q. Will it be possible for me to make up a name for my chocobo? A. We considered this possibility, but due to various factors, the chocobo naming system will be similar to the wyvern and automaton name selection process. Questions from Europe: Q. Will I need a special item like an incubator to hatch my egg? A. Besides the egg itself, no special items will be required. Q. Will chocobos be able to learn new abilities? A. That information will be revealed at a later date. We plan to continue providing answers to the most common questions, so please keep up the exchange of ideas and opinions! Also, don't forget to check the Topics page on the official FINAL FANTASY XI homepage for upcoming pieces on chocobo racing and other chocobo-related news!

Along with the new chocobo raising system, in the upcoming version update we will be introducing the ability to call chocobos. This feature will allow players to call up and ride the chocobo they have lovingly raised.

No longer will adventurers have to rely on rental chocobos for traveling around Vana'diel! Players will be able to call their very own chocobos anywhere, at anytime.
Impress your friends with your personal chocobo mount!

I Highly doubt that they would make ppl go to the trouble of raising a choco without some kind of reward. I look forward to seeing what exactly we can get from winning these races..... Even though we cant ride em.

While i understand that SE is afraid of the lack of the money for the stable why can't they make it so when we pay for the bird, we get to use the one we raise. That seem fair, unless they are worry that each user will get differnt times from the way they raise there bird.

I would really LOVE it if we be able to do a quest to be able to ride the chocobo around in windy. That place is so big it takes forever for us taru's to get any where in windy.Hope the lower levels be able to do the quest to.

# Jun 15 2006 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
What if they make it so you can summon your bird in the middle of an area that normally does not allow it. ^^ like when your in a high level area where damn near everything will aggro, you summon yuor chocobo and ride right by them. That would bee sweet in valkurm,

i'd rather ride my choco out to Valkurm, party for a while, hop back on it and head back to Jeuno...having to spend 5k gil to keep my choco fed for the trip than rent some yellow piece of crap.

I totally aggreee with Aerias on this one, I think it would be nice. Considering i have about 12 jobs in Valkurm at the moment and because I dont have a way to get tehre effectivly I dont level those jobs, cause when I wantto leave it will take forever if I have not hit 20 yet.

This is one of the features I am seriously hoping they don't leave out. I remember being able to call you chocobo back in other Final Fantasy games whenever you needed it. I assume that if they were to add this feature, you would have to use an item to call your chocobo, possibly gyshal greens or something similar...

I just wanna be able to get armor for the chocobo. But, that probably won't happen. Think of like... Chocobo armor that resembles Drk AF. Spikes and stuff... Ahhh.... Evil chocobos would be cool ^^
And then you could have the birds with Pld-esque armor. W/e.
But... Man that'd be cool.

What i am hearing, it seems ppl are worried about not riding the chocobo. Well the only thing i see helpping the problem is Tele-mea. On my Server (ifrit) today i went to get a chocobo and it costed me 1600 gill! Wth lol. I hope the raising of chocobos also comes with a patch to fix that problem. Im not a rich taru but it hurts me when i need to spend money on a tele-mea, then the choco, then a boat ride to Al Zahbi, then spend money on the correct die i need for my corsair. I am not going to spend the money on a low lvl die in the AH. Like the Chaos roll is like 30-50k in the AH my server is soo expensive. I hate it i hope all the RMT's die!!!!
RE: Chocobo Cost
# Jun 14 2006 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
1600!!! I would kill to only have to pay 1600. On Lakshmi we regularly pay over 3000 gil on the low side. On average, I would say, we have at least 2500 people logged on at any given time, 3200+ during peak periods. Almost always max Besieged at the 714 (or so) limit. Of course finding parties is not a problem :-)

# Jun 14 2006 at 10:42 AM Rating: Decent
i want a white one dammit! and that doesn't seem as much fun now that you can't even ride them. like posted above, they are saying having your own and not renting a choco will upset the economy....why don't they just charge more for choco food and care items?

i'd rather ride my choco out to Valkurm, party for a while, hop back on it and head back to Jeuno...having to spend 5k gil to keep my choco fed for the trip than rent some yellow piece of crap.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 14 2006 at 1:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well idc who this tanaka is but unless it says ON THE FFXI SITE that you cant ride them then im still gona guess that you can ride the chocobo that YOU raised and that it would ***** up the economy BS id say ya sure chocos cost like 100 to 200 gil its not gona ***** anything up so personaly unless SE on the FFXI site has said it then i wouldnt listen to what everyone else says is or isnt going to happen until i see for my self

I’m disappointed in not being able to ride chocos too, but here is where I first learned of such:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/695/695268p1.html

Scroll down and the article states that Tanaka confirmed we won’t be able to ride chocos. I’ve heard of an earlier interview from a Fan Festival which stated something along the same lines, but I have not been able to find it.

Edit: Here's the paragraph

Quote:
Another step Square is taking will be to lower Chocobo rental fees. Tanaka also confirmed today that the Chocobos raised by players, although available for breeding and racing, will not be ridden in the game. Tanaka said they didn't want to upset the balance of the economy by getting rid of Chocobo stables, but the team is looking at ways to incorporate your Chocobo even deeper into the game in the future.

What? Allowing players to ride their own birds makes it so that not enough money is taken out of the economy? Simple solution - charge more for the food to feed the chocobos. People will pay 5x the chocobo stables fees if they can ride their own chocobo around, especially if it has equippable armor (something which was asked two or three interviews ago and interest was piqued for).

I've got an idea about that: Chocobo Knight! to bad it might not happen but I'm trying to think of ways that it could be possible, like how to handle riding time.

Since raising your Chocobo will directly relate to Chocobo Racing, I'd say there's a pretty good chance that you can ride them.

Yea, to ppl that just wanna race they wil become quite happy... For ppl that were expecting to ride em, they will be sorrly disapointed, since your not allowed to ride em at all...

That deffintly puts a damper on ppl sayin FFXI is turning into WoW.. its nottin of the sort.. just a cheap in effective way of starting up horse races.. instead just choco races.... in a few weeks the choco stables will remain bear and unnoticed...

just like Tenshodo.. durin the 1st couple weeks Tenshodo was packed with Adventures wanting to get pass to the new Continent.. now.. no one barely visits Tenshodo unless they are on Missions.. or quests..

That'll prolly happen with the Choco stables after a few weeks.. ppl will just stop caring bout Raising choco's if your not allowed to ride em outside

I wish that would happen to Besieged... c.c

The reason no one is at the Tenshodo anymore is because everyone is in Aht Urgan now, they only need to go to the Tenshodo once, not like they have to hang out there or anything. :P
no riding!?!?

I think the time-limit thing will be something as simple as if you dont bother with your bird for a week or two it will either be released or handed over to the Chocobo Stables staff.

Either way, you lose your bird so its a less mean-spirited way of "killing" your pet, and letting you start over.

This has to be much more than a week. I take holidays that are 1-2 weeks from time to time and I would hate to come back to the game only to find out my Choco which I have spent much time raising is no longer mine.

There might be a choice to put your Chocobo voluntarily in to the care of the Chocobo Stable staff... for holidays and stuff. There'll be a limit, and it'll no doubt cost, but that seems like a fairly sensible way of doing things.

I'm glad you can not ride durring races, or if you could you could not control the chocobo. reason is there is already a big problem with tools on the server and this brings an even playing field to the game.
