New Multiplayer Battlefields: Salvage

A whole new type of multiplayer battle is in the works for the next version update!

Concept

The Aht Urhgan expansion pack has introduced a myriad of new battles--from the quick, SWAT-style Assault missions to the citywide skirmishes experienced in Besieged. Salvage continues in this tradition by offering several new exploratory missions designed for alliances. While similar to Limbus battles in that up to 18 adventurers can participate, Salvage battles are more than a relentless assault on a seemingly never-ending wave of enemies—they will require precise teamwork and impeccable strategy to complete.

Objective

The main objective of Salvage missions is the exploration of the archaeological remains of four newly opened areas (Zhayolm Remnants, Arrapago Remnants, Bhaflau Remnants, Silver Sea Remnants) and the eradication the demonic beasts that rule their deepest depths. However, this will not be as easy as it sounds. A powerful force known only as the Pathos of Alzadaal limits the abilities of all who enter, making them easy prey for the hordes of fiends waiting in the shadows.

To complete these missions, alliances must work as one, or the treasure that slumbers in the remnants' bowels will remain lost for eternity.

Participation

Adventurers must be level 65 or above, and be in a party/alliance of between 6 to 18 players. There are no mission rank or mercenary rank requirements.

Remnants Permits

In addition to meeting the aforementioned criteria, adventurers also must possess a "remnants permit." This key item can be obtained in exchange for Assault points (2000) and will grant entry to any one of the four remnants. Please note that a permit can only be used once, and adventurers must wait until midnight (Earth time) before they will be allowed to purchase another.

Area Reservation

Unlike Dynamis or Limbus, Salvage uses a battle system similar to Assault, meaning that area reservations are not required. Also, Salvage mission time limits are all set at 100 minutes, and there are no items or monsters that can extend that limit.

The Pathos of Alzadaal

When adventurers begin a Salvage mission, they may have as many as 20 different limits hampering their abilities, equipment, attributes, and more. The only way to reach the guardian of the area and retrieve its treasure is to remove these limits. However, removing these limits requires the defeat of the other monsters roaming the remnants.

The following is a list of the various types of Pathos:

Imbued Items

The Pathos of Alzadaal can only be neutralized with special potions and medicines known as "imbued items." Most of these items are pathos-specific and will only cure one ailment. They can be found on monsters or within treasure coffers hidden throughout the remains.

One of the keys for success in the Salvage missions is determining in which order members of the alliance receive the imbued items.

*Players must dispose of any imbued items they bring back from the remains before they will be allowed to enter again.

I cant wait to get into this, it looks like it would be so much fun.
I really dont mind people flaming this new arena system because they obviously dont understand endgame ffxi. But if SE has made something that takes brains over button mashing, then good for them. I'm sure just like the rest of this game it'll be fun.

I cant believe they removed KC from LoO drop list without putting it somewhere else.
grrr

People won't even know this exist just like what happened to ballista. Too many requirements and High level. Of all the developments ideas, this is the worse. they should have just made Ballista more rewarding. /pokes SE in the eye.

wow another event that requires 6-18 people.... yay for garbage SE ideas!

if you dont like it, dont play it. at least they're still coming out with things. assualt has a low member requirement, some only require 3 to beat it with ease. if you want to solo the whole game, go play WoW

THF will be very useful at getting some of the items, but of course everyone is screwed if it becomes a mimic early on.

not necessary mean monk is the best job for this new battle. Maybe mages can help to kill some monsters first which drop items to unlock other members' ability. From there ...unlock even more monsters ..based on the monsters you are fighting against and which elements they are weak to.

the only problem with this is when the mages can't use their magic.

Might this be SE's gift to pet jobs? A BST only needs JA to use a pot pet, and im not sure if these restrictions would affect pets. If the enemies that held the imbued items were relatively weak, even pupptes could make short work of them.

once a SMN can use magic they would also do fairly well also......they aren't just for buffs and healing you know, thats why SE gave them another BP menu.

Those are some seriously debilitating conditions. Having two or three of them on a person would make even a weak enemy impossible to defeat. Even with a few of the imbued items doled out at start, or obtained really easily, (it looks to me like they are individual use only, as opposed to team use) a lot of the alliance members will be fairly useless in the beginning.

so... what's the reward. If you're gonna take fun away and seriously gimp everyone, there better be like relic weapon +1's at the end of this...

this first thing that came to mind was the battle arena in FFVII. then came disapointment. Look i understand this game is all about "Team Work" and "Playing with Friends". Seriously though could we have something we could solo? something i dont have to rely on 10 ppl for ? one thing... maybe?

Maat? I understand your frustration, but it is an MMORPG. If you want to be able to solo missions and events you can play an offline game. i.e. stop complaining when S-E makes a new mission you've never tried
But I see his point.

It's hard to do the besidged battles to begin with I see the point that he's making it's not fun always having to do teamwork missions it would be nice to solo things every now and then. But on top of that it's very easy to get the party killed in a blink of an eye. If you take away the things that make a job work, then it's imposable to make the mission work. In this case they better only hit you with 2 ailments and not all of them at once or players may not like Salvage at all.

I also would like to see more crap that you can solo (then again, I'm solo'ing a lot...), but the way they make this seem, it's like having a MNK and a THF would be really good, if not, necessary... It does seem like fun, and am pretty much really looking forward to.
Holy crap though, -30 to ALL stats? good god, I'd feel like a nub again...
