Card of the Day-Intensify

Today's card of the day is the Mage card Intensify. This Mage ability has been seeing play since the first days of Legends of Norrath.

The card's main power is obviously the power acceleration. The power acceleration can benefit both unit rush and the mana intensive Necromancer control decks. Unit rush decks still play some abilities like Shock of Fire and Decoy. When Intensify is combined with the abilities that these decks already play, they can use the extra power to churn out more units or play the tactics that Mage decks like to play like Roaring Flames and Blighted Pack.

While the extra power is a nice perk in unit rush decks, the real power of Intensify can be seen in the more mana hungry Necromancer decks. These decks use power producing cards like Slippers of Dark Mana and Glowing Dagger of the Arcanist to power up expensive Mage cards like Abate Life and Sunstrike. An early Intensify can help bring these powerful cards online early in the game.

Two of the cards that combo very well with Intensify are Endless Intellect and Lich. Endless Intellect combos with Intensify because it has no cost. On turn 1 especially, Endless Intellect into Intensify gives you 4 power on turn 1. That might not seem like much, but it's really more than it seems like. Adding up small advantages like is a very powerful play.

Lich also combos very nicely with Intensify because it gives you an ability to exert to pay the extra cost and then also gives you the option to destroy the Intensify to get another power out of it. Gaining extra power like that adds up very quickly and gives you lots of options for things to do on your turn.

Intensify has been giving Mages extra power for a long time now. If you've never experienced the power of umm...extra power, I suggest you try out Intensify and experience it for yourself.
