Mildly useful in very specific situations, but for the most part not worth bothering with.

-This does not Intimite ELEMENTALS.
-This Last for 1 Min IF u hav AF FEET(@52 drk).
-This and Arcane killer Both makes the "intimited by your presence" Arcane killer jus for u and Arcane Circle is Arcane killer but for the whole party.

Thank you! >.<

keep in mind i'm a 50+drk i'm not too sure if this makes a difference against elementals not once have i seen an elemental being intimidated by my presence but it does work on weapons, magic pots, bombs, and thats it so far that i've run into really. Think more along the lines of if its an animated sort of being then chances are its arcania. Say for example if you were fighting a monster constructed of rubber spoons then yeah that would probably fit under arcania along with its animated weapon friend
Tip to what to use your Circle on

Now, I'm only a 7 DRK, but I have a pretty damn good hunch about this after testing it out a (very) little. The mobs to use this on are namely those that sense casting. I figure it'd be pretty obvious that arcana types are cast sensitive. Weapons, Bombs, Cardians, and Elementals are all cast sensitive and suseptible to Arcane Circle and Arcana Killer.

As of the december patch, all "killer" and "circle" effects now add an automatic paralyze-like effect to the referred-to mob type. It gives a "[mob] is intimidated by [player]'s presence" message. Note that dragoon-type mobs can use this against dragoons' wyverns also. Killers and Circles and Paralyze can all be stacked. Circles last 1 minute and can be recast every 10 minutes. This information is from Squaresoft's patch notes (except the stacking part, that's from my experimentation).

I can verify this. I am only a lvl 8 drk, so I don't have the killer effect yet. I used arcane circle while fighting a balloon and got the "Balloon is intimidated by <me>'s presence." I didn't notice too much difference in the damage, but that's probably because I'm still such a low lvl.

A) Yes it will stack with protect and shell.
B) It works for elementals and espcially bomb-types. It cuts the dmg from self-destruction in 1/2! It's very useful when you're goin for limit 1 and have to get your bomb coal from the explosures.

Arcane circle

lvl 52 DRK here.

Arcane circle is for weapons and elementals. Basically creatures of magical constructions.

If you use it, it has a simular effect as the paralyze spell. The magical monsters will not be able to attack on some of the turns, showing "xxx is intimidated by xxx". It may also reduce the damage done to you by these creatures.

Euler is right about the intimidation being caused by the Killer Traits. I have been a PLD and a DRK long enough to find out that even when u dont use the circle ability u can still get the intimidated effect, so I think the circles do just what they say, raise the defense. The killer effects cause the intimidation.

Any chance the intimidation actually comes from "Arcana Killer"?

Paladins will intimidate undeads with their "Undead Killer". This ability only increases magical defense.
Still no correction?

What's with this site? Anyway, so yeah ... level 24 Hume DRK here, I confirmed with level 29 and level 30 Elvaan DRKs:

Arcane Circle lasts 30s and has refresh time of 10 minutes. Arcane circle is used for Arcana-type monsters (i.e., Weapons). I also heard rumors that it will lessen impact of Goblin bombs, but so far, I've yet to use it in a party (maybe when I head for Yuhtunga since I have not gone to Dunes for DRK leveling once). Arcane Killer is exactly that - good for Arcana type monsters. For a further understanding of this, talk to the NPC in Bastok Mines near gate guards and you will see a bestiary map showing that the direct opposite of Arcana is Undead. Arcana <> Undead, PLD <> DRK.

Stack with Shell?
# Dec 15 2003 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
Shell (white magic) is suppose to increase magical defense as well. Will these two buffs stack?
