For those of you who aren't sure which mobs will aggro with sight, here is a short list of some of the main families that Camouflage might help you with:

Goblin
Gigas
Yagudo
Orc
Quadav
Tonberry
Coeurl
Bomb

As you can see, the three big ones from each city zone are there, as well as goblins. This is the big reason to have Camouflage. There are others that I didn't list, but as I said, these are the most important.

Coeurls are sight aggro only, I have stood directly behind one without sneak and not got aggro (until it decided to do a 180 >.o)

Coerls detect by sight sound and smell and whether or not one pops with these detection capabilities is random it also seems as if they have a form of widescan.
In Yhoator Jungle their is an opening that connects to yhutunga (by entrance to yhoator from the outpost) and there is a spot in the middle where a "coeurl" pops.
it actually seems as if there are 3 dif ones that pop there cuz running bythese thing i thought sneak and invis was enough to run by him but he aggroed and killed me. walked by with deodorize didnt aggro walked by with sneak once didnt aggro, it really felt like their was a prgrammer controlling it. as second note me and my wife are lvling off these things and i have my clipping plane turned for faster PC, and i look over onto her screen and off in the distance one spins around wlaks right toward us waits for us to finish healing and aggroed it was hardest coerl i have ever fought.

Camo different from Hide

Level 20 Camouflage != Level 45 Hide

I noticed a lof of post that were incorrect in assuming that they are exactly the same. They are ALMOST exactly the same with one very important difference. Hide sheds the hate that the mob had for you so one you are not hidden it won't come half way across ht map to pull your head off.

Camo does not shed hate, it only makes you invisible like hide noting else. That is why it is useless for a THF/RNG tring the SATA + Hide move. I still find it very useful but definately not a crutch to rely one. Know your mob before you pull, or hmmm, maybe don't pull until you do.

Hope this clears a few things up.

in regard to knowing whether or not the mob aggros by sight - if you're pulling (just about the only situation this is useful), and you don't know how the mobs in your area aggro, shame on you. you should read the book BEFORE you go to an area to pull, or maybe have it with you so once you identify what mobs are typical to an area you can figure out how they aggro.

knowing this stuff is ESSENTIAL to avoid links and aggro when pulling. halfway through a fight with a monster, or after you've been aggroed, is NOT the time to try to figure out how that monster detects you.

this is almost identical to the thief ability "hide". if you're not a puller, this is pretty much useless for you unless you are just having trouble crossing a certain area (in which case follow the above steps).
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 27 2004 at 11:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah, so ummmm.... Gay *** move! This **** sucks, how are you supposed to know if the mob aggros by sight? What are u supposed to do, pause the game and look in the book to see, oh wait u can't pause this game! So in the end, you are dead and probably deleveled. Yep, thats about it, this move sucks. Never ever use it, ever.

This ability has saved my butt on more than one occasion. As far knowing what mobs aggro by sight, learn before you even go on the map, i.e. PLAN = know your job and know your mob. Dont just try to rely on an ability to save your butt, when your to dumb to research.
sneak attack compatable?
# Jul 15 2004 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
lets say you're a 40 thief / 20 ranger and you obtain this ability. i was wondering if this would have the same effect as sneak attack + hide, so you don't have to be directly behind the target, and obtain 45.

If you have hate, you keep the hate, even if mob aggros by sight. Found this out the hard way, its different from Hide in that respect, prob why hide is much higher lvl.
Identical
# Jun 01 2004 at 8:38 PM Rating: Default
This ability is exactly like Hide (THF). If a mob that aggros by sight (only)- aggros you, you can hide to clear the hate. Again, will NOT work with sound or smell aggroing mobs.

This got me killed today.

I got a bad pull with a couple of Gigas's, and used Camouflage as described to clear the hate.

The gigases were unamused, and killed me for my pains.

Now, it's possible that he was in the middle of an attack, which broke Camouflage when it hit, but the name never changed back to white from red.

Does it clear you on the hate list? i think it would .

If you are getting attacked by a mob and use camoflauge the mob will just attack you and cause camoflauge to wear off immediately...no hate clearing.

Only if what you're fighting tracks by sight.
Not real useful

Turns you invisible for 10-30 seconds, very rarely more. Not the most useful thing ever, esp. since so much sees right through it.

Level 62 Ranger. I timed Camo today and it lasted for 2.5 min. The description of Camo says that the time is varied. Do any of the level 75 Rangers [i]KNOW[i]if level affects the duration?
