Description

The proud nation of Tavnazia once rivaled the most powerful city states of Vana'diel. Then, along came the Crystal War and the infamous Battle of Tavnazia. Countless people died in the bloody battle, and the nation was presumed to be wiped off the map when a violent explosion caused the Tavnazian Archipelago to break away from its main continent.

The Tavnazian Safehold endures as a haven for those few who survived the Battle of Tavnazia. Located in caves between Misareaux Coast and Lufaise Meadows, the safehold provides access to a vast network of waterways connected to the old Tavnazian cathedral, as well as a port that once conducted business with the outside world. The safehold is full if interesting residents with intriguing tales about this part of the world.

Well, there is a portal (name escapes me) that you can go through after completing the Promyvions to get to this region. One of them is indeed near Delkfutt's Tower, near the Behemoth's Dominion side, and the other is near Selbina in Valkurm Dunes.

As a side note, the portal won't lead directly to the town. Instead, the one from Qufim leads to Misareaux Coast and the one in Valkurm leads to Lufaise Meadows. From there it is a fairly short walk to the Safehold.

I just got here last night. Very cool indeed. It was almost as exciting as the first day I played FFXI. Although the vortex to the dunes was easy to find, I read there was one in quifim too. Does anyone know where it is and if so, can you post it?

Thanks in advance.

the swirling vortex in Qufim is in the cave on the way to behemeth's dominion, just stay to the left wall once entering cave and you will come to it. The vortex also takes you to Misereaux coast and the zone to Tavnavian is to the SE

I have tried every single Promyvion out there, the only one where I actually got to the spire was Mea, but we all died fighting the notorious monster. On the other two Promyvions I only got as far as half way through the third level. Can anybody please give some advice? I'm so ready to go to Tavnazia, see the abstract monsters... new music... less crowdedness.. anyways please help, thank you.

There are Promyvion strategies all over the web. However, there is a reason these areas are less crouded. The Promyvions aren't incredibly easy as you've found out.

The boss can be difficult, and I won't go over the strategies right now. But getting to the tower is simple as long as you kill every mob that looks like it could aggro. Staying together is really the key here. If the group doesn't get seperated, then getting to the spire usually works. The only case where I have failed a Promyvion on the way to the spire was when the group accidentally split and got aggro on each direction. Not a fun day. ><;

Oh yeah, also watch out for the NM on the third floor. That can spell disaster. Just wait for it to move and you should be okay if it is in your way. Unlike most NMs, these are killed once in a blue moon. They will be up and running 95% of the time.

Edit: Just remembered. I also died once when my group's summoner went AFK on the second floor near one of the monsters exclusive to that Promyvion. We made it out... with two people dead. Due to the fact the deaths were of the WHM and tank, the group still remaining on that floor died when the monster re-popped. Couldn't forget that time. ><;

As one last tip, make sure to clear the mobs near a receptile. A mage dying because they were hit by the knockback attack into a group of mobs is not good. Even if the mages need to stand in the range of the special so that they are only knocked back to the edge, the extra bit of damage is okay to avoid aggro. Thankfully some of the receptiles will have a platform made for mages to stand at.

I have easily made it to every boss spire without having to do much, if any killing aside from the Recepticles and their spawns. All you have to do is have a rng spot the recptacles and run there keeping out of sight range. All the mobs are sight aggro(speculation) so just don't go in front of them. If you do link one or 2 just run to a safe area and kill them or run as far from the group of mobs and die then get raised. Also several groups can go into the promy together and help each other to the spire it is only then when you must have 6 ppl max to enter the ENM and final boss battles.

Here is a link to a utility and instructions to convert from .BGW to .WAV files or back.
This would also let you replace the FFXI music files with your own Wave files.

I haven't been here yet, but if the music for this area is what I'm guessing it is (music229.bgw), then it's this awesome kind of old skool FF town music that's absolutely beautiful.

I remember reading somewhere that FFXI actually won an award for best music in a MMORPG or something like that. Has anyone else heard something similar?

well the music was composed by Nobuo, so i dont see any reason any other MMO would win, although i havent really listened to any of it, i usually have windows media in the background, then turn off ff11's music, however the selbina theme is really awesome

Actually Uematsu composed 11 of the tracks appearing on the FFXI OST. "Ronfaure" being one of them, was played at Dear Friends.

The whole of FFXI music is a collabrative effort between Nobou Uematsu, Naoshi Mizuta, and Kumi Tanioka thus far. Of the three, Mizuta has the most works on the soundtracks, composing a 28 of the 51 tracks appearing on the Final Fantasy XI 2 disk OST. On top of that, Mizuta composed nearly the entirety of the Rise of Zilart OST(Uematsu did "Dash de Chocobo").

One the overall I would say that Final Fantasy XI's music is pretty tame. It isn't great, it isn't awful. I will say that some of Mizuta's work I find terrible, such as Kahzam and Yutunga Jungle. At the same time I find some of his work fantastic, like Sanctuary of Zi'tah, Rolenberry Fields, and Fighters of the Crystal.

Some of the music seems to be unmistakenly Uematsu. I don't want to venture any guesses as to which ones, though. You wouldn't happen to have a list, would you?

He is only credited with the musical score heard in the opening CG movie. His name doesn't appear as being credited with any of the in-game music, at least not in the FFXI manual. Naoshi Mizuta is the only name credited there. There are no credits in the Chains of Promathia manual, so I don't know about the music for those areas.

However, I believe Uematsu is in charge of SE's entire music department, so he has a hand in all music in every SE game these days. I remember Chrono Trigger's music was credited to Yasunori Mitsuda (my 2nd favorite video game composer behind Uematsu), but Nobuo composed several songs for that game as well. As an aside, does anyone else think the Heaven's Tower music sounds a bit too much like Schala's Theme from Chrono Trigger? ^_^

Here is the list of tracks that Uematsu composed:

Final Fantasy XI OST

Opening Theme
Prelude
Ronfaure
Airship
Recollection
Anxiety
Battle Theme #2
Sorrow
Sometime Somewhere
Despair
Repression

Vision of Jiraat OST

"Dash de Chocobo"

I have to presume that most of this music is BGM for cutscenes. I can't place most of it, but I can confirm I have heard both Anxiety and Despair during mission cutscenes. I think Recollection may have been during a mission, or the Beastmaster flag quest.

Here are the remaining tracks by composer, for anyone interested:

The only Area music Nobuo composed was Ronfaure. The rest is mainly Story, and Battle music.

Naoshia Mizuta also composed 100% of the Chains of Promathia soundtrack.

Go to the bottom floor using the ramp down on floor1. There you will have the Sea Lions Den and the Aquaducts. Talk to the NPC's there and after a cutscene you are allowed to enter. Lvl cap 40 and most things are DC-IT.

There are also evil Tarutaru SMN's in there that will kill you, lol.

Need an alliance of 12 for the mission.

I still haven't figured this one out yet. It's a quest from an NPC starting with a P - he is married to a female elf who seems rather angry.

He tells you that his daughter was kidnapped by a huge monster near the Blueblade area of the meadows. After talking to him and his wife, alternting between the two - get a cutscene everytime, you are asked to find clues as to the whereabouts of his daughter. I checked the blueblade area but there is no ??? or something similar so my guess is that I need to talk to a few other NPC's and gather more clues before I set out and "maybe" kill another NM :/

How to get the map
# Oct 17 2004 at 4:57 PM Rating: Excellent
"A hard days knight" Quest.

You can get this from the NPC byt he Altar on floor 1 of the Tavnazian Safehold.

Talk to him and he will ask you if you'd like to become a Tavnazian Knight. Of course you say yes, but oh wait, you suck. You you can join the other leage of people, which is like a squire ^^

He tells you to go out and survey the area in the Southern part of the meadows. Leave Tavnazian Safehold and check the map, it's located East. Head there and locate the large wooder lookout point.

When you go into the lookout point you'll find a ???.

If you click this it will say that nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.....oh wait! You sense a murderous presence!!!

Yeah, a notorious monster will pop at the bottom of the steps.

If you are a high level plater (55+) you can take him head on no problem.

If you're a 42 RDM/BLM like me you will die, lol.
Besides that, if you are my level or below you will get agroed by EP, so you need to sneak/invis to the tower. Sneak will wear off when you hit the ??? and it will not stay on if you recast it. So be smart, check the area and make sure eveything is far away from the lookout point. Then buff up, rest, hit the ??? and immediately run down and to the right of the lookoutpoint, there is a ledge with no mobs near it.

You can fight him there without agro from other mobs.

The NM is a Ranger Type Orc and is hella tough for my level. I died 3x as a RDM/BLM so I came back as a RDM/NIN hoping Utsusemi would take some of those arrows that hit me for 68 DMG< lol.

He will stay at a distance if you ran away from him and use ranged. Utsusemi will not last very long as he is quick. Para slow and gravity are your friends. Also, phlanx and stoneskin help a little although stoneskin will be gone in a couple minutes. So switching between stoneskin and utsusemi helps a lot.

The only thing that saved me was Convert, X-potion, chainspell, Pro-Ether, nuke nuke nuke.

Once he is down to 1/4HP he will get close and use a Ranged Attack followed by a Melee attack :/
Bind if you can to keep him at bay.

It was like a 12 min fight but it was fun :)

# Oct 17 2004 at 4:57 PM Rating: Excellent
First of all you'll need to get to Tavnazian Safehold. It's located SW of the Vortex...there's a wooden outloot point close by.

When you get there, look for an NPC named Elysa or something like that. She lost a hairpin and wants you to find it.

Now go to the inner part on floor 1, where the big clircle and altar can be found. Look closely at the INSIDE part of this large circle as there is a ramp up and down. Take the ramp up and continue to head to the top.

You'll find a ??? there. Click it to receive the hairpin. Now go back to the NPC on floor 1 and talk to her again.

After a few cutscenes you'll be rewarded with a map of Tavnazian Safehold and the surrounding areas.

# Oct 01 2004 at 10:01 AM Rating: Decent
you do have to beat all 3 crags to get here. there is no zone enterance, you must teleport here through either a swirling vortex, or through a broken telepoint after all 3 crags have been completed. neither if these will port you untill all 3 crags have been cleared
a whm and smn in our dem Pt had already completed the other 2 crags, and were warped to the medows is this region when they touched the broken crystal after we won.
and FYI, CoP mision 3 "below the arks" is needed to fight in the crags. so zoneing in would give you CoP missin 4, not 2.
RE: how to get here
# Oct 15 2004 at 10:09 AM Rating: Decent
"below the arks" is CoP mission 2-1, CoP missions are in chapters like rank missions, below the arks is chapter 2 and mission 2-1, 2-2 is "mothercrystals"

once you talk to the correct people in the safehold, you will be given CoP mission 3-1, i forget the name but its a 40 capped venture into the aquaducts to kil a minotar

Zoning into this place starts Promathia Mission 2, and gives you the title "Dead Body". I'm trying to decide whether or not I like that more than "Follower of the Ancient Flame" (Promyvion completion) :)

The map comes from a quest given to you by Elysia in one of the tunnels close to the bridge on the 'ground' level. It's wonderfully easy to complete, just involves finding a ??? and an npc inside the Safehold.

To get to Tavnazia you need to complete Promyvion Dem, Holla and Mea. I did this last night and after the cinematic woke up in Lufaise Meadows.

After you leave Tavnazia, you can return via the vortices found in Valkum and Qufim.
