I used this in 60 cap stuff all the time... especially on ENM/BCNM and its gold. It kicks in a lot on mobs that con Impossible to gauge. Don't know exactly what makes it kick in, but its always a blast to have on during/between fights.

Flee

Is the Additional Effect: Flee like Additional Effect: Weakens Defense in the way that it randomly takes effect or is the Flee always active? Please reply back. Also can someone tell me if this knife is really worth all that gil.
Usage

Hey everyone ....Good old Hem here

I was just wondering how often one can use this flee effect? is it on a timer and if so how often can you use it?
delay
# Aug 08 2005 at 2:57 PM Rating: Default
My thief is only 54 atm, but ive bought all my equip to 60. armburst, SH, and chicken knife. although the flee thing is flippin sweet, the reason it caught my eye is the delay 176, thats pretty damn fast considering most other knives are 195. with this in my main and hornetneedle in my second, +bravo sub. and saving up for sonic belt at 65 for 4 mil >.< imma build TP so damn fast, ill prolly be able to SC 3-4 times in battle :D and then flee for next pull woop woop

something small; SE changed the icon of the Chicken Knife into what looks like the model of Hornetneedle, or any of the fast daggers mostly. But, they changed it back into an actual "knife" with the model of the knife after the 7/19/05 patch

In case it hasn't been established already, the Chicken Knife tends to activate on Tough + monsters. I love this knife for EXP parties. Though the flee doesn't seem to kick in too often, it does kick in about twice a fight and often I'll have Flee on for the next pull. Great to run out and beat other pullers to the prey :)

I picked this up when I saw it on the AH for 120k(carbuncle) - then now that I read this thread it seems it won't work for farming like I had hopped?
I'm gonna try it out for farming then sell it if it doesn't work except on Even Match (or tougher) mobs.
I don't need this for ptys, I just wanted to hunt down mobs >.<

PS: it's up to 150k on Carbuncle last I checked so at least I'll make a profit from a failed expeirement(if it doesnt work)!
just somethin worth noting

this is just something i noticed while xping
i keep chicken knife in my left hand, and i've noticed, whenever i miss with my right hand, and hit with my left, the flee effect kicks in
just somethin worth mentioning to someone lookign to experiment ^^

Anyone tested this to see if it works with AF Boots? The boots give an extra 15 seconds, so it might give you 45 seconds to Flee.

Okay, I think I've figured this little number out. The solution has been staring you in the face for some time now. Still don't get it?

It will only trigger on tougher mobs. I haven't tested the actual |/check| required on the mob for this weapon's additional effect to trigger (I'd guess |Tough| and up, or maybe |Even Match| and up), but I'm reasonably certain from my experience, and the experience of others who have posted.

I mean, it makes sense, wouldn't you say? Why be a "chicken" and |Flee| from something that's just |Easy Prey|? You'd want to |Flee| from something that's |Very Tough|.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 17 2005 at 3:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You wouldn't be chicken if you were running away from a fight you knew you couldn't win, therefore it would make sense if it activated on Easy Prey... so I think it's you who "Still doesn't get it".
Chicken Knife xD

OldSchool Weapon from FFV :D I remember tearing up with this dagger, only to risk escaping lol.

Sry to ruin your last post thing :P

If any of you remember FFV, the activation of flee from this weapon only brings back memories. :..)

There was also a FFVI chicken knife. That one had a damage mod depending on how many fights you had run away from. The more fights you had fled, the higher the mod.

(There was an opposite, called Brave Blade. It was a sword that had a damage mod that decreased with the number of fights you had fled. Of course, it was much easier to flee five hundred times to beef up chicken :P)

Actually, that was FFV as was stated by the first poster. FFVI had neither of these weapons.
OMFG
# Nov 21 2004 at 9:44 AM Rating: Decent
Ok look, last post on this thing hopefully. To understand item abilities, you need to understand terminology. For ref:

Added Effect: Chance of occuring, not all the time.
Latent Effect: A very misunderstood and manipulated term. Simply put, a certain condition must be met in order to active the ability (Ie. Yellow HP, orange HP, red HP may trigger an ability for certain items. Ex, Rogues Ring- Latent Effect- Steal +3 (Triggered by yellow HP or lower). ). For each item it's different and I couldn't possibly go through all the triggers here.
Increases Duration: Does just that. (Ie. The ONLY way to make flee "Last Longer" is with your AF feet; The only item that has this effect)

With that out of the way, this Dagger simply has a CHANCE of acctivating your "Flee" ability for free upon a succesful hit. Same as you would get with a Fire Sword with it's Added Effect of fire. otherwise, that sword would have a constant Fire effect causeing the mob to burn to death! :D I know extreme example :P But accurate.

Also to note, and I'll use the Fire Sword again. Would a Rdm/Blm using the Sword have to wait for a recast time after he lands a hit with his sword that just did added fire damage? Nope! And thus is the same for the Dagger, it uses a flee ability from the knife, not your /ja flee.

Now, for all those sceptics out there. WTF good is the dagger then? Well \, aside from having good damage and low delay for those unwilling or unable to get anything better, it's a damn good little dagger.

Now the only things that I have thought of for this dagger's use in batte would be for running away like a little wuss, or my Fav idea, free movement around the battle with lighting quick speed. The idea of being behind a sub-tank from after a Sata and be right around the other side of the Tank ready to go again is nice :P It could also be nice if 3 hits from the end of he battle, it triggers, and boom, you still have 20 secs of flee time to run off and SATA>ra the next pull. Quite nice little perks from a dagger that would have been an upgrade to your Bone Knife +1 anyway :P

<Take Care.>

It is highly debatable as to whether or not the latent effect for the Rogue's Ring is widely known...steal+3 is A TON...I doubt that SE would provide THF with such a valuable asset with such an easy-to-meet condition. I don't think it has been verified yet whether the yellow hp IS in fact the condition.

That would be easier to check with some of the other level 50 latent effect JSE rings. If any have stats that increase something easier to notice than Steal+ (BRD, WHM, and SMN would work well). You could test it out by taking hits from TW enemy and noting when cast time is reduced by 25%, cure potency is increased 10%, or avatar perpetuation cost decreases, respectively.

I think i'll see if i can find one of those who has a ring and get some answers. I'll post on Rogue's Ring page if i can find any answer.
Confused
# Oct 15 2004 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
I am totally lost by this knife. I love the flee ability. I think it's great. I also think it's very useful because i'd say 50% of the time I'm able to flee to pull the next mob. I like that. BUT I CANNOT figure out WHAT ACTIVATES THIS KNIFE.

I have never had it activate while playing solo.
I have not had it activate while playing with less then a full pt.
I have had it activate all the time for no apparent reason in pt battle.

What's the story behind this thing.

My interpretation: Aren't additional effects the weapons proc? So like Additional effect: Fire Damage, you can Flee while fighting if it activates. Thus the name "chicken" knife. Mid fight you can Flee and just take off running like a coward. LOL!

Farming methinks
# Sep 28 2004 at 11:33 AM Rating: Decent
This would be excellent for farming. If it really triggers 1 or 2 times per fight, just imagine hunting elementals. You would have a chance to track down 3 or 4 accross the map during each spawn cycle....as opposed to 2 w/ just the regular Flee ability.

man... do some of you even read before you post?
ADDED EFFECT = MAYBE
same as any weapon that has an added effect, such as fire dmg, poison, etc... if it happened all the time... i think i'd go buy a weapon that adds sleep and solo to 75... what do you think?
Clearing out the facts
# May 24 2004 at 8:01 PM Rating: Decent
Hello^^ ~ This message is only to clear out things... I used this knife since it has nice dmg and very nice delay :). In a PT, you can gain the effect of Flee during a fight maybe 1 or 2 times... it's not very useful, unless, the monster is about to do an AoE, then you can move out in time or if you get it at the end of the fight, then you can Flee to pull the next monster... when you want to get exp chain #4 or #5, it is kinda helpful ;)

additional effect
# Mar 10 2004 at 11:52 AM Rating: Default
the "flee" ability "Procs" like any additional effect... so it isn't a GREAT ability, but would be good if you had ranged, get the flee, then run away and shoot...

umm u can't use ranged attack

the additional effect is on the dagger not the ranged weapon
RE: additional effect
# Jul 05 2008 at 3:39 AM Rating: Decent
and you're dumb... he wasn't talking about the ability on a ranged weapon... hence why they said something along the lines of "if it procs, run away and used ranged attack"

yes, 4 years later might be a little late to solve a noob problem but... who knows... :D

Does this weapon improve the flee skill, or give you a permanent flee? (Response from someone who has tried it prefered.)

Well, I havent tried it, but my educated opinion (which hopefully someone can confirm):

This dagger does NOT add to flee duration, or improve the Flee skill. The description is "ADDED EFFECT". With other added effect items, there is a VERY small chance of the effect occuring. Sometimes it is elemental damage, poison or paralyze, HP drain, etc... In this case, its "Flee".

What this means is that in any fight, there is a small chance the thief will get a free "Flee" activated. Which is great if the fight isnt going your way, so you can "chicken out" and run away.

And if the Thief's JA Flee is charged, he can use that after the first wears off, and run even longer.
RE: Dagger with Flee
# Mar 11 2004 at 5:21 PM Rating: Default
that doesn't make any sense at all to me. how could a dagger activate your flee job ability so that you could run away? i'd guess that it makes Flee last longer, to be more realistic.
RE: Dagger with Flee
# Mar 16 2004 at 9:19 PM Rating: Decent
it makes sense to me.. and what it DOES do is activate flee randomly when fighting.. but very rarely.. this does not blow your job ability timer =)
RE: Dagger with Flee
# Apr 02 2004 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
yeah since that remark i've thought that it might have to do with how high your HP is. like if it got into orange. does it show the visualization so that you know it was activated? i've already got the knife, but am only 53 right now.
RE: Dagger with Flee
# Feb 26 2004 at 11:55 AM Rating: Default
the point of this knife is not improve the flee skill or attack faster but to chicken out of the battle
no

It's not that great for exp party. By level 55 it has lost my respect for use against exp crabs. Even with my WAR sub, i hit for 0 more than i'd like if there's nobody to dispel the crab's DEF-up.

(EDIT: tried it as THF/NIN in exp party and it was even worse >.<)

Fastest Weapon?
# Feb 01 2004 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
Is this the fastest weapon in the game? With nin you could do 1 hit with 132 delay. Thats with this weapon thats some fast as hell tp build, in a 20 second fight you get off 15 hits.
