i'm having serious trouble in trying to activate my chocobo whistle. how many times do i have to register my chocobo before it. every time i try to use my whistle it gets to around 12% and then it stops charging. and it's costing me a bom in gil. i put my chocobo through most of the care for my chocobo training sections every time i go on and i set a care schedule almost all the time is that my problem? does my chocobo's stats keep chaning and i keep having to re-register? should i register, not do anything to my chocobo wait 24 hours and then try it? someone please help i just want to ride my chocobo!
Lost whistle during transfer. Help?
# Nov 05 2008 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
Okay. So I just transferred from Fenrir to Bahamut last week. My whistle was in my inventory before I transferred, but wasn't there after the transfer. I've consulted with a GM, they sent me to the Playonline.com communities to try and find another way to get a new one, saying there were other ways. Does anyone know of a way to get a new whistle, without having one?
1k per charge?!?!?!
# Jul 29 2008 at 7:47 AM Rating: Default
kk, this is really ridiculous. 1k per charge to charge whistle? That's absolute BS! If who-ever made this shoulda realized that any1 w/ teles can get cheaper rides from the chocobo person standing next to the Craig or just by warping back to what-ever city & go from there. This is really a screwed up system. To make things easier, it SHOULD BE fame based to determine the amount a person is charged to get a whistle recharged.

/em ***** slaps the person-who-came-up-w/-the-ridiculous-system-of-chocobo-whistle-recharging into next several life times.

# Oct 01 2008 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
Totally agree. What is that with SE.

I mean, it's so hard to make some decent money and then they take it away from you with al these these ridicilous rules. In that retrospect, FF is just like real life.

And where does this money goes to, the Chocobo Wildfund?

please STEP by STEP

well i just put mine on basic care for about 15 days then it hatched and then i fed it once a week still on care plan and then watched over it and walked it once a week. i think some of you people who cant get the hanky while it looks away or what ever you prolly didnt give it a hanky to begin with so it can know you better. the trainer will look at it and say you need to keep this hanky close to you so it can have it later for future use. i picked up a dirty hanky when mine was not looking so im sure that was the key item you guys arenet getting lol. mine turned out black with all the neglect i never fed it any carrots or anything

Don't Drop It!
# Jul 19 2007 at 9:01 AM Rating: Decent
OMG! I left the game for the school year and then came back for the summer. For some reason, before I left, I had dropped the whistle. I thought it would be no problem to just buy another one...I WAS WRONG! 50,000g for the stupid thing and 1k per charge once you use it! What a worthless investment. SE did a bad job with this aspect. If you put all that time into it, you shouldn't have pay massive amounts of gil to use it!

Ok the question has been asked here few times.

When you riase a second choco what must you do to aquire a whistle from the second one.

DO you have to drop the first whistle?

Dont waste the 25 charges on the whistle. When you trade the whistle to the NPC when it runs out of charges, it costs 1,000 gil PER CHARGE to recharge it. To get the whistle is a long annoying quest, I personally went on a short walk, and just grabbed the "item" when the chocobo was "Completely absorbed in its activities"

Hope you found it somewhat helpful. Good luck everyone. Dont waste your whistle!
Retired before Getting Whistle

ok, got the quest from the NPC in windy, to get my Whistle. I had to however, leave town quickly and came back after an extended amount of time.

Now my chocobo is forced retired and got my card and plaque. NEVER got the chance to go to Sandy and get CS about looking for Item that was hidden by my bird. Only thing the NPC in Sandy stables tells me is 500 gil get a Chocobo card.

Did i miss my chance on getting my Whistle and if so how/what do i do now?

Do i get another egg from NPC in Jeuno or buy a (M) card to mate? Only ways to get another bird, and then raising that one, am I able to get the Whistle?

Thanks

same boat. i was stuck away from my chocobo for too long - came back, watched the big long report, saw the cut scene fro the chocobo wistle quest, and then he was retired without me ever finding the wistle!

please tell me there's a way to get the wistle after he's been retired!
Oops! Threw away my Chocobo Whistle
# Jun 07 2007 at 9:12 AM Rating: Decent
Okay this may seem like a noob question but I am sure I am not the only one who has had this problem. What happens if we mistakenly throw our whistle away? .. Do we need to raise another chocobo to do the quest again to get another whistle? Second question, if that is true and we can get another whistle, can we call either choco with it? I asked a GM and they could not help.

If you have dropped your whistle, you will be required to pay 20,000g to get a new one from your VCS trainer.
Past birds?
# Mar 21 2007 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Is there a way to register past chocobos on the whistle? I doubt it, but I wish there was a way to do this... I want a speed chocobo but also a digging one... SE should make a way to switch through chocobos (if not already), even if there's some fee involved. You raised them, you should have access to them dammit...

Raising a chocobo isn't as difficult as it seems at first.

Here is a really great guide to get you started on the right path, with info about chocobo care, feeding, abilities and more.

I am raising my 3rd choco atm i have a black F Blue F and raising a Green right now day 20... in order to ride your choco, he has to be 30 days old and you must select the register to ride the choco and buy the whistle for 25k.... if you still need some help ask one of the twenty people standing in front of the choco guy about what to do. btw
feeding your choco certain foods will not affect his color. That is one of the most ridiculous things ive ever heard.... breed your choco buy getting cards like the rest of the world, pick your honeymoon yadayadayada

hope this helps out deh nooBs

I am sure I am among the first round of people that raised a chocobo only to find out it automatically retires on day 129. I have spent endless amounts of gil and time in cutscenes only to find this out. The problem is I was unaware of the automatic retirement, and due to lack of sufficient information from Square E-****** I never obtained a chocobo whistle. I went around yesterday and visited Sandy 3 times in a row and my homeland Bastok 4, and also tried the Jueno npc's. Now that the Vanadiel Chocobo Society Farm has stolen my chocobo, is there any way for me to get a whistle for it? Also, does anyone know if they will ever come out with another manual like the original 'Spring 2004' Version? I thought it was put together quite well. It seems these days Square Enix is not fully exploring their ideas before they put them into motion.

As long as you do the quest for the whistle and give them the chocobo's VCS registration card then you should be able to get the whistle for it. =)

Oh and by them I mean your NPC thats taking care of your chocobo.

That's part of why the Chocobo Trainer suggests as soon as your chocobo is old enough that you visit the NPC in San d'Oria and register your chocobo. You can continue to raise your chocobo even after it has been registered, you'll just need to re-register it to use it's new stats when you ride.

I have 1 retired chocobo. I am raising a second. I never recieved the white handkerchief, for the second choco. My second choco never cried at night. Will I be able to get a whistle for this choco or do I need to abandon my first choco, that I am riding now?

Chocobo Colors

Anyone has a fact about how to get a red or green chocobo?
Like, if you want red choco, breed it in san'Doria, or is there a specific food to affect the bird and make it turn Xx Color?
Any info will be apreciated.

Black Chocobo
# Dec 06 2006 at 3:59 AM Rating: Decent
i raised my chocobo in bastok, feeding 4 San'D carrots daily, unless it was ill, etc.. then i gave it 1 item stated by NPC plus 3 San'D carrots, If your doing this right, when chocobo reaches adolescents it will grayish-black feathers around it's neck, keep feeding 4 San'D carrots daily @ day 29 you'll have a black chocobo! woot! hope this helps :D
cost of recharging whistle is outrageous!
# Nov 16 2006 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
I am really pissed about the cost of the recharging my chocobo whistle. 25K is unreasonable for 25 rides. Cost to ride your own chocobo 1k per ride. After all the gil and time spent raising it. A big rip off from Square Enix or whoever did it. And they say they don't want us to buy gil....
25 Charges

Not even 1 charge per day of raising it to adult.... I really hope there is a way to recharge this.

no need to retire
# Nov 03 2006 at 9:22 AM Rating: Decent
You do not need to retire your chocobo to ride it. I am on day 56 and all you need to do is register it. If it's stats change then you will need to re-register it to reflect the changes while you ride it. Once npc says he is big enough to ride and you have whistle it will eventually get depressed if you do not ride it and it took me awhile to figure out why. But once you go out it will perk up.

I can use whistle to call 1st Bird (BLU, Retired, Choco Card F). 2nd Bird is still in stables as an adult (Yellow, Chco Card M). My question: will I be able to call either bird by name when using tyhe whistle? Both have diff stats.

Feeling awfully stupid on Kujata!!

Do NOT retire your chocobo before you get your whistle!! If you do not have your choco, you can not possibly get the whistle. You will have wasted a lot of time and gil for nothing.
