Tried to duo this as Sam/Dnc and Drg/Sam. We both had Polearms (Engetsuto for me, his Mezraq or one of those fork lookin things.) figuring that like all Jellies he would only have a partial resistance to piercing damage..

Huh.. yeah.. right..

Things didn't go real smooth as the first Fluid Spread cold bloodedly murdered both of our NPCs and severely damaged both of us. Luckily, he didn't seem to do it that often and we were both able to keep Seigan and Third Eye up to avoid most of his other attacks, as I Slowly healed us both back with Curing Waltz II. I stayed mainly at 200 or more TP, Meditate being ready whenever I would drop close to 100. But Eventually our luck ran out as he did Fluid Spread, putting us both in red (away from the ghosts, thank god) and before I could get us both back into safe range he did it again and killed me, the Drg followed soon after, leaving the mob at maybe 18%.

But, at about 45% a Bst comes over and asks if we're going for the ring, which I was. I said yes, and if he wanted to help out I would be more than happy to give him a lot at it. He either didn't hear me, or did and just didn't respond. So, as soon as I fall he charms a bat, and as soon as the mobs name hits yellow, sicks the bat on it. Now, I know that's not against the rules or anything, but.. just another knife at me while I was down.

So he runs off with the mob, I /tell him asking if he could raise is when finished. No response. Eventually the Drg logged his wife on who came Dnc/Whm and raised us. But not after the Bst fell and had to call a raise of his own. Karma, maybe? But he did try and make up for it after he and his rdm friend killed the mob. He said he didn't get the drop too. But, bah.. next time I'm going blm and grabbing all three of my duo partners and we're going to show him my little buddy.. Flare.

I was a little worried about camping him when reading some of the testimonials here. God bored one day and figured I'd at least give it a shot as a ninja.

This is a tremendously easy fight. I went /rdm for fastcast and MAB, wore INT gear I had laying around (moldavite, tamas ring, etc), and macroed staves into my ni nukes and enfeebles. I had no special gear on as most of my ninja stuff is on mules. Opti hat, boxors mantle, and af2 legs (can't remember if it was night time or not) were my only eva pieces. The other stuff was just makeshift junk (and when I say junk I mean it......root sabots, tavnasian ring, tactics pearl, grandiose chain, etc).

Nukes were doing around 260 per hit. Although I had to recast jubaku 3 times, hojo lasted the whole fight. He only did two tp moves the whole time, a digest was one, the other was at like 8% so I had stopped watching by then. He probably only took 4-6 shadows the entire fight. Easily only used Ni and probably could have only used ichi.

I would wager that any /nin job could solo this providing you had a way to damage it without giving it TP doing 8 damage per melee hit.
my kill
# May 20 2008 at 3:04 PM Rating: Decent
finally got off my butt and camped this guy for my ring so here is my story.

Total camp time: ~2hours
Total Fight time: ~8minutes
Went as: 75NIN/WHM (wanted the teles when I was done)
Gear setup: full evasion with a splash of magic dmg and haste, SH+1, walahra turban, moldavite earring/ninjutsu earring, Earth staff for emergencies, ninja hakama, astral rngx2 (in case I needed mana for heals/SS), Corse cape, fuma kyahan, survival belt, evasion torque, bomb core (just what i was wearing).

To spawn him I simply killed the mousse in the room with te haunts and the one in the hallway right before that, ignore the bats since they wont agro you (unless you /heal).

Katans did around 11-14 on it (only hit a couple times to see what they did) ninjutsu spells were slamming for 140-150 each with a very rare resist doing ~75. I kept him fully debuffed with slow/para/blind/pois and just continually spun the wheel. With just the little bit of haste and reapplying debuffs and utsusemi I rarely had to wait for a cooldown to be ready. I fought him in the hallway right before the room with the haunts, nothing agroed or respawned on me other than the bats so it was cake. And even then those mobs cant hit sh*t and fighting sewer+ 1 moouse wouldnt be hard at all.

Only a few attacks got through, he hit me for around 80 (earth staff ftw) and did fluid spread 4 times, not one got through. Right at the end I tossed a Cure III on myself just in case another attack got me so I wouldnt drop into yellow and agro the haunts. All in all a rather easy fight. It took around ~17 rotations through the entire elemental wheel to down him. Didnt eat any food or meds. I think /rdm would help a bit for the Magic atk bonus but it was still easy. The key is dont deal melee damage to him just magic and he wont spam TP attacks. 1/1 Jelly Ring, yay! :)

rdm/nin vs. Sewer Syrup
# Feb 05 2008 at 7:19 AM Rating: Decent
Here's my brief Sewer Syrup camping experience. The place was empty, killed the mousse PH and haunts next to it once, then Sewer Syrup pops. Just to be clear, this is a very easy fight for 75 RDM/NIN. Sewer Syrup didn't get through shadows/stoneskin once. However, in a moment of idiocy I did wipe. When the haunts repopped I was unprepared and they aggro'd. I slept both of them, but not before losing way too much MP/HP. This was the only trouble I ran into. I got back up and moved down the hall, killing the mousse further down the hall. I then pulled Sewer Syrup down away from the haunts. This time there were no problems, no aggro, and no damage. The Jelly Ring dropped first time, so I won't be back.

This was a very easy fight as long as you stay away from haunts/mousse. The bats in the area will not aggro a level 75. As rdm/nin, I kept up stoneskin, phalanx, enfire, haste, etc. All I casted on him was poison II, dia II, and slow II. If you clear the mousse down the hallway, you should be able to easily defeat Sewer Syrup before any repops. And stay away from the haunts :)

1/1 on this guy.

Girlfriend Coralee (PLD75) and I (RDM75) camped this NM last month. We killed off the placeholders as they popped and waited about 2-3 hours for it to finally pop. Nothing too remarkable about the fight. It was long, as it has high physical defense. I {Back line job.}'d it landing the usual RDM enfeebs/DoTs including Para 2 Slow 2, kept Phalanx 2 on Coralee as she meleed it down. 300% Spirits Within was resisted hard core. It didn't hit that hard and the AoE fluid toss or whatever was not a problem, Stoneskin absorbed it all and Coralee took minimal damage. At the 1/2 way mark I Divine Sealed + Converted + Cure 4'd then popped Chainspell + Bliz 3 for the win. Dropped 6000g to both of us, Slime Oil and Jelly Ring!

Good luck to those camping the NM! =)

I just got this ring today. Was a simple fight to solo.
I went as rdm/nin75 and killed ph for about 2hours then it spawned. First i grav, bind and nuked it til my mp was allmost gone. This put the mob left with around 50% hp.
Then i converted, buffed up and started meeling it. i did this to save mp in case i couldnt finish it with two MPbars of nukes. It also helps avoiding links since you dont need to move around much.
it was easy to straight tank. As the other mentioned just try to have your shadows up when he uses Fluid spread. One time it got true and it knocked of my stoneskin and put me at 600hp with barwater and protect/shell up. Other then that he just hits like a normal mob with an occasional double attack. When it got to 10% i finished him off with a thunder3.
Think the fight lasted for 12 minutes.
Hope this helps.
enspells
# Sep 10 2007 at 3:55 AM Rating: Decent
Tip to any RDMs planning to enspell this to death, even with a 1 damage dagger it WILL take 2-3 points of damage as well as the enspell so it will get TP, just a heads up ^^ (still easy tho)
Sewer
# Aug 23 2007 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
Soloed this as 75Rdm/37Nin, fairly easy fight. Keeping Sewer heavily enfeeb is key, also keeping ss and shadows up is necessary. Very weak to spells, also haveing enfire, and Blaze spikes up help's alot also. Suggest running him to the zone if it gets hairy. Good Luck 1/1

Soloed this as 73 nin/rdm using rdm sub for fastcast and magic attack bonus. Spent about 20 minutes killing the three Mousses in the area till SS popped. Like the other posts have noted, only the Haunts and the Mousse aggros in this area if you're 70+, bats in the area will aggro if you're below 70. My primary mode of attack is using my elemental ni wheel to deal full dmg on the slime mobs.

The fight with SS is easy enough. A typical evasion setup (for both nin and thf; i wore ohat, scorp harness, evasion torque, scouters rope, and corse cape) is good enough to avoid the majority of the hits. Blind, slow, and para ninjitsu landed without a problem. In my fight, SS has not landed a hit on me even with fluid spread. Fluid spread is indeed something to worry about since you could potentially get blood aggro from the undead if you get hit by it. However, Utsu fully absorbs the dmg, 1-2 shadows for me, 2-3 shadows for a typical melee the 2nd time i fought it (I believe this has to do with high ninjitsu skill talk in the nin forums, unsure atm about this). Physical attacks is pretty much worthless and I recommend not to melee on him since it could feed him tp to spam fluid toss. I simply disengaged and spammed the elemental wheel. The fight took about 7 minutes for me and drained about 15-18 tools of each element.

Links will be your biggest concern when you fight SS. Before you pull SS, clear the tunnel of additional mousse and take SS down the hall and fight there. Fighting near the room will blood aggro the haunts since their range is pretty far. Anyways, this guy is a pushover in the solo perspective.
Success
# May 01 2007 at 11:41 AM Rating: Decent
I dont see a lot of PRACTICAL info on here about the mob, so I thought I'd offer some. THe MOb doesnt seem to be time based, and is 100% lottery of the 4 mousse placeholders around the room with 2 haunts in I-11 (and H-11 for PH) but the SS will ONLY pop IN the haunt room. Anyway, it took 8+ hours of killing PH's for him to pop since last ToD <.< I guess I was very unlucky.

In any case, Despite what anyone says, SS is a VERY hard solo fight, but is CAKE as a duo (preferrably RDM, BLM, or Nin as main attacker, and a WHM as healer). Why so hard solo? Well, unless you have a TON of mp and an easy way of getting them back fast (LOTS of ethers?), you will run out of MP from curing yourself from Fluid Spread - which eats all shadows, and can still do 400-600 dmg, even with phalanx, stoneskin, Protect IV, and Barwater. Theres really no effective way to avoid this - just have a healer on hand to back you up and hope that it doesnt do it much. Also, obviously, he is EXTREMELY resistant to all phsyical attacks, I think at MAX, your attacks will do 10-20% what they normally would on a normal dmg mob, but if you are an RDM, "En" spells do great, since he's very weak to magic.

Anyway, his acc is pretty bad, and doesnt do anything special other than Fluid Spread, so the less melees on him, giving him tp, the better. Bind didnt hold very well at all (a few seconds with 304 enfeebling magic skill), but he seems to take at LEAST 1.5x normal dmg from all magic, maybe more. I KIND OF did this fight solo, but with a little help from a whm - when I pulled him, I was going to pull to the zone, but she was aggrod as I was pulling it, and died before I had even hit SS once. ABotu halfway through the fight, the WHM got up, in weakened state, and cure'd me with what little MP was left, which I greatly appreciated... There wasnt much left of the fight after that - I was running out of MP, but refreshed the WHM, and asked her to Cure V me when I convert - she did so, and I started nuking with my full mp - Thunder III 757 dmg, Blizzard III 694 dmg, and it was over :) Which to ME, was impressive, since I"m elvaan (lowest INT of all races, even lower than galka) and was set up for evasion/tanking, not nuking (No moldavite, INT+, etc). Anyway, I want to say thank you to Talna, the WHM - it was very brave to get up and help while weakened, and I might not have won the fight without her :) The RIng dropped (it's not 100%, but is at least 50%), in what was a very fun, but challenging fight.

We were 64PLD/WHM (me) and 71THF/NIN (Dors, my hero)...

Sewer Syrup popped after killing two mousse place holders. We cleared the hallway and got TP off some bats. Next, we buff, put Barwater up, Regen and the fun begins! This thing had mega-defense and it was pretty much just Dors killing it while I try to keep us alive. Long story short...our NPCs die, I die, Dors lives, Sewer Syrup dies, we each get 9k gil, and I get meh Jelleh Ring!!! yay!

Oh I forgot to mention... Dors ended up using a stack of bloody bolts >.> My hero ;D

So I started killing Mousses (Moussi?) around 2pm Hawai'i time. Ended up going until 7pm. . .I was starting to get pissed off and my PLD went away on me so me (RDM/WHM) tele-mea'd him to safety. Came back to see SS was up. Had to kill a Mousse to get to it. Was a really good/easy fight. Hardly took any dmg. Funny thing though my enfire did more damage than my acutal melee. Evisceration did around 69 while Gust Slash did like 225~ lol. I'm thinking this guy gets hit like he has the ring on. Good luck on others who camp it. I hope you dont have to wait 5 hrs for it to spawn.

just got this. camped SS for about 3 hours and he finally popped. soloed it as a 75 nin/war. he's not much harder than the mousse's except you do less phys dmg. Jubaku, hojo, and kur all land easily so he should not touch you with a full eva setup. Did not even have to use ichi. Just make sure you bring your wheel powders so that you kill him before mousse's repop.

i got a 12k gil bonus in addition to the ring drop

Tanked the Syrup as a THF74/NIN37, with help from a SMN74/WHM37 and WHM63/BLM31. Took less than 2 hours to get him to pop. We had to drag him to the Ronfaure zone because the WHM would have gotten aggro from bat repops. Pulled with Carby, snuck up and ran to zone, Syrup followed then we got to work. Very easy fight, I barely got hit with 250 evasion skill plus 25 from equipment. Kept Barwatera and Stoneskin up and the WHM out of AOE range and it went very smoothly, nobody was ever in any danger. Now I got a new toy for my 63 PLD. Smiley: smile

By the way, Carby's Meteor Strike or whatever it is called did more damage than Ifrit's fire attack (can't recall the name now). I'd guess the Syrup has around 12k to 13k hp (parse had him at 11343 but that doesn't include DoT spells).

I got this just yesterday, and man was it a great experience. Many thanks to Orofin and Aable of Odin for helping me get this thing!

We spent quite a lot of time killing Place holders, and I managed to get claim with a flash. It was quite a mistake of the other hunters to clear the room so the adrenaline-packed Paladin with flash could get it, heh.

Anyway, thanks again to Orofin and Aable, and good luck to anyone who wants a Jelly Ring!

Just solo'd it last night as 75 bst/nin. Took about 2 hours, but it was a fun fight.

Courier Carrie did good damage, but the mousses proved to be better pets with their TP drain attacks occasionally hitting for over 250dmg.

Only mousses and ghosts aggro at 75. The bats were a non-issue and I only used them as pets in the very beginning when things were a little hectic from me figuring out how to beat this guy.

I was never in any real danger. My hp went into the yellow a few times in the beginning stages of the fight just from me not being used to fluid spread vs shadows.

As long as you have gaudy harness and 2 rune axes, there's no reason to go bst/whm (just bring sneak oils). bst/nin was extremely safe and easy.

I'd imagine if I dragged it downstairs and used leeches for pets the fights would have gone a little faster, but the mousses worked out just fine.

RDM/NIN can solo this mob, I did it. It takes a long time. I lost first try because I equipped too much attack gear and ran out of mp too quickly. My HP was sandy, so I hp, switched to mp gear and ran back, it was still up. Fight was long (I converted twice), but a lot of fun.
