Saotome Haidate + Seigan = Fail.
# Mar 27 2007 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
First piece of Saotome I got myself, and as soon as I was out of Windurst, I went to test them.

BEFORE Seigan and Hasso were released, these would give the singular Third Eye, which every Samurai veteran grew to know and love (Not), a chance to Counter on the singular anticipation. Makes it about 35% of the time a Counter.

Now with Seigan + Third Eye, it can counter even without these. But when Counter kicks in, Third Eye is usually torn off. Don't know why, but it does to me almost every time, so I pray to God I never Counter.

That being said, you DON'T want to increase your Counter rate. With these, I wouldn't even Counter and I could feel Third Eye wearing faster then usual. But I did counter about 24/67 Colibri I killed. Atleast once on the battles that were marked.

So for any of ye' guys wondering -- These suck. Plain and simple. Other then looks, of course.

Saotome Armor, best to worst (In my opinion)

Kote, Kabuto, Sune-ate, Domaru, Haidate.
Saotome Haidate + Seigan = Fail.

probably a little late for this reply but ... countering doesn't take off third eye all the time... ^^;

We need to know how effective the counter is with these pants and the seigan+ third eye combo, does it counter every time, or just more frequently? I prefer someone who actualy has the pants and has tried this to answer.
Ya'll dont know

This piece of armor is completely underrated, it completely remakes the speed and reaction of the samurai much better when using these + seigan + thirdeye

The reason the SAM AFv2 has those stats is SAM were first developed by SE as tanks. The NIN were supposed to be the DD when they added in SAM and NIN to FFXI, but people started using the the SAM as a DD and the NIN as tanks. That is 1 of the reasons that SE recently (a few months back) made it so that the NIN spell that grants shadows lowers enmity when the shadows absorb the damage.

Character~ Tricant
Main job: 46THF/30NIN, 50SAM <-- (Retired until I get up to 6mil to buy good gear), whats the point of lvl'ing if u can't do good dmg =P

Captian Tricant, I'm sorry, but when I read your post, I felt like one of those monkeys with bananas stuck half way up their rear ends and chanting horrific sounds at a ball bouncing....

It's just, I have to give SE some credit, when they made NIN they made it to tank....they knew exactly what they were doing otherwise they would have curved it so that people would use it more as a Damage Dealer. The real reason why SE put in the enmity hp and third eye effect enhances was for the purpose of first voke and or balncing out jobs... and the real reason why they added the enmity to nin was because they were making them better tanks which is what they were ment to be.

I give credit to the people too, for noticing that sam was better at being a DD (because of its increased str and high atk with loads of dmg on there two-handed weapons) because, yes your right, people did use it as a DD because it was a DD.

Its like when people grew up in the early ages, feeding themselves by hunting and sleeping when they had to sleep because, my friend, there is something called instinct and I hate to burst your enormously swollen bubble but it's true.

That shows you how devoid of logic those morons are. You don't give a DD shadows that cancel any normal attack directed at it and low STR compared to other melees. You also don't give a tank high STR the ability to SC with damn near anything multiple times in the same fight, at least you don't if your think logically. Through Third Eye, good VIT, and high HP, SAM can make a desperation tank and a good man to set up SATA and not die, though, and NINs can also MB well. Duel Wield doesn't hurt damage either >)

Got these last week, and I've been primarily using them in ballista, or just to look cool ;P

Anyways, I've noticed that they don't always proc with the counterattack, even with the pants on I would occasionally get the 'anticipates the attack' message. Not sure what effects this, does make sense if someones attacking you from behind, but even a good portion of time when I'm facing opponents in ballista, it would only evade.
How the Third Eye enhancement works
# Aug 02 2005 at 11:12 PM Rating: Excellent
Just got these today in Dynamis-Windurst woot! Got the win, AF2 and Dynamis-Beaucidine access all the same night :) And I can confirm, yes you do counter the mob with these on instead of your regular "You anticipate the <mob> attack" It instead will say "You counter the <mob>'s attack. <Mob> take xx damage." Stats on these not all that great, JSE and AF1 is prob better imo. But how can you not resist showing these off when walking around Jeuno lol.

Oh yeah, the pants have to actually be ON when you get the counter. I tried macroing JSE on after I used Third Eye wearing AF2 and it only gave me a regular "anticipates attack". But when I used third eye and kept them on, I countered everytime. Kinda like how u have to have and keep AF1 gloves on when u use riceballs or you dont get the enhancement. So I'd say these probably best for soloing and farming. Either way I'm still happy. Got feet and legs AF2 down, three more to go! Even though if I only got the hands I'd still be happy :)

people like you deserve to be dragged out in the street and shot.. with a water gun or somethin, just for bein stupid.

think about it... samurai already have enough eq. swap macros as it is, what is one more gonna hurt?

I want these pants, though only for the third eye enhancement, and I wear Hachiman Hakama myself.

I agree, wearing these pants all the time in party situations would be foolish (unless you play sam/rng), but, not everything has to be worn all the time. Hell, SE even gave us Gobby Bag quests to carry more junk around, why not use that space efficiently for partying instead of just farming or bazaaring.
RE: this sux
# Sep 24 2005 at 8:14 PM Rating: Decent
Because you can't macro it in and keep the enhanced effect if you swap out the equipment again right after using Third Eye.

Third eye enhance and TP store
# Jun 04 2004 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
The Enhance "Third Eye" ability adds a counter-attack to Third Eye. I am 100% sure of this as I`ve seen it in action.
Also the TP store +3 an the Saotome Domaru does NOT give 3 more tp per hit. It gives 1.5~2 more TP per hit. Sort of like how DEX increases you acc with 0.5 points. Thats how the TP store+ works too. It does however also take effect on when you take hits, so you should get 4+ tp for every time you`re hit, and each attack you do should give 15-16 tp return ^^ So if you fighting an enemy that attacks you at leat once for every time you attack it, you would effectively get 20+ tp per hit. Pretty nice

Oh and also the Saotome Kote does not give 200% tp, like the AF1 helmet it only gives 140-160 TP, I was told this by a lv 75 SAM with AF2 domaru, kote and haidate.

A level 74 samurai told me "enhances third eye" means that you counter the attack, not just anticipate it; however, the 74 samurai was japanese and his english is not the greatest. Like the Saotome sune-ate, this is a dynamis drop, and i'm sure there is a saotome kabuto, kote, and domaru to complete the Samurai AF2 set.

about third eye enhancement:
first, you anticipate the attack as usual. if you are fullfilling several criteria at that moment of anticipation, the message of counter attack will appear a second later. the counter wont give you any TP though.
RE: yeah
# Jul 29 2004 at 8:40 PM Rating: Default
third eye isnt counter, its blink, esentially.

it says you WILL dodge the next attack (assuming its melee).

**EDIT**
heh *^^ i got it now, the ENHANCEMENT causes you to counter/dodge.. thats cool
**/EDIT**
and also i believe that the storeTP job traits dont just add 1 tp each, but StoreTP+ 1 would add one tp percentile extra per hit.

the reason i think this is because a samurai friend of mine (~lv 35) gains 100 tp in about 4 hits, NO meditate used.

well last time i checked, i thought for every store tp its +.2%, so yeah. and i get about i think 16.7tp per hit at 73 plus alot of store tp stuff, and i don't think any job can get 100% tp in four hits with out meditate. =/

"a samurai friend of mine (~lv 35) gains 100 tp in about 4 hits, NO meditate used"

you or your friend is lying, that is impossible. I have tp store III and with a delay450 katana i gain a max of 14%

BTW- SE.....store TP sucks, you need to improve it :/

Yes, Store TP + 3 adds .3 to your tp gain...even with all the store tp equip in the game on, you will never achieve even +2% tp to your regular swing.

In the other Dynamises. All of the AF2 pieces are found in Dynamises. Each job has a piece in each of the Dynamises except for one (since there are 6 Dynamises and 5 AF2 pieces).
RE: yeah
# May 18 2004 at 1:06 AM Rating: Decent
There's a Saotome body piece that gives StoreTP+3 - that means you get your innate StoreTP III plus three more - 6 more TP per hit than other classes. The kote is listed on the site (Med=200%TP) as well as boots which must do more than this site claims they do...

Correct me if I'm wrong but that might be a little bad to have Enmity +1, SAM aren't the best tanks...

Although, probably good for a two-person party or solo, because of AGI +3, so disregard what I just said.
RE: Good idea?
# Jul 29 2004 at 8:44 PM Rating: Decent
i think the idea here is if the main tank, hopefully being a PLD, loses hate(T_T), rather than the mob going STRAIGHT for your bite sized taru mage, or your drk whos cranking out 200 damage each hit, you (being the samurai here) will take the hate, since samurai wear a bit heavier armor than other damage dealers, or anyone for that matter aside from your tank..
RE: Good idea?
# Apr 29 2004 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
Sams get emnity since, unlike dkn, they can tank while fulfilling their purpose (they can still WS while being hit; dkn can't use magic if being attacked). Look at the sam AF body armor - it encourages partial tanking.
Hmmm
# Apr 20 2004 at 7:07 AM Rating: Default
Good question, I'm guessing its kind of like upgrading from utsusemi ichi to ni so that when you dodge 1 more attack then before. So you probably dodge 2 attacks instead of 1 now.

i'd like to know how this enhances Third Eye effect. Third Eye dodges the next attack, does this make it dodge the next 2 attacks? does it dodge magic spells too maybe? anyone know for sure how this works?
