Well sticking to it's FF roots, SE probably wanted SMN to have this type of horn based on a similar horn that Eiko had in Final Fantasy 9 (she was a SMN also).

Much thanks to DynamisBums LS on server Phoenix^^ Got the Summoner's Horn today during our Dynamis-Xarcabard farming run.

I can confirm that this horn drops from mobs other than the NM Marquis Nebiros. We have seen this drop twice and neither time did it drop from the NM.

Also, if anyone was curious, there appears to be no difference between single- and double-weather as far as the MP perpetuation-saving effect of the horn. I see 3MP saved in both types of weather, so apparently only the *type* of weather seems to matter.

Right, they are wearing the Evoker's Horn, not the Summoner's Horn, the Summoner's Horn is a lot less detailed, lol.
Dynamis AF2 Drop Rate Questions
# May 18 2005 at 1:43 AM Rating: Decent
I always thought TH1 and 2 worked regardless of what the item was. The way I understand it, TH gives one bonus "free throw" to the treasure pool, as if there were one extra person in your party with a chance to roll on the treasure. Now when I go on Dynamis runs I always tell the Drks to /thf and hopefully we get lucky and one or two main Thfs comes along.

But I notice that the drop rate on AF2 is all around pretty terrible. I wanted to get some thoughts on whether, if at all, TH affects AF2 drops and also, whether moon phases, elemental days, etc, have any effect. And lastly, is anyone else pissed that SE doesn't give so much as a shred of confirmation of what factors, if any, influence how to get this highly-prized gear? I've done about 8 dynamis runs so far, 3 Jeuno, 1 Bastok, 3 Sandy, and only seen one Abyss Flanchard drop in all of those runs, 4 of which have been successful (all time extensions, boss defeated). I know Drk AF doesn't drop in Sandy, but still the AF2 drop rate in general seems VERY crappy, and it's beginning to really get on my nerves.

Thoughts anyone?
RE: Dynamis AF2 Drop Rate Questions

My personal experience w/ dynamis and af2 is based on: one thing that drastically increases the drop rate - beating the boss & the person who initially trades the hour glass to split it has the key item from that zone b/c of a previous win. 1st time in bastok, sandy, and jeuno only 2-3 peices dropped at most. When we went back to farm the zone, both bastok & sandy dropped 8-9 af2 peices, and jeuno yielded ~6 peices. Some experience about th [ kinda unproved ] it seems to work fairly well when the pt that has the thf makes the kill, not necessarily the thf themselves. Reading up on the thf boards, this seems to be the only agreement - the rest are fallacies, but then again S.E. only knows 100 %.

You can't be extremely pissed at SE for not sharing TH info .. if they did how many gilsellers would be exploiting that? And then you'd be pissed at SE because gilsellers are getting away with have extremely high drop rates and boosting up prices on ... well, Everything in end-game.

SMN(Do you need it?)
# Apr 08 2005 at 1:32 AM Rating: Decent
In my ls, there are 2 SMNs. Me, and another tarutaru SMN. he is lv 75 and has all af2 pieces except the shoes(i don't think he's tried farming in dynamis-San d'Oria.) over all, the AF2 set can give you perpetuation -6, if you meet the requirements. for the horn, you need the avatar and it's corresponding weather, for the doublet, it is avatar at their corresponding day.

So, in order to have the full -6 perpetuations on the avatars from the AF2 set, you would need to have let's say, leviathan out, on watersday in rainy weather. As a 75 SMN i believe the normal avatars cost 10mp/tick without their staff or any - perpetuation (plz correct me if im wrong ;p) so, with the requirements of the AF2 set with an HQ staff, evoker's ring, and auto-refresh, you have free avatars.

For NMs and solo and such, a way to gain back MP would be important. Since Auto-Refresh is counted first in the perpetuation ladder, you would need a piece of gear with "Refresh effect" on it to gain back MP(i believe only dalmatica(HQ/NQ)and vermillion cloak(HQ/NQ) are the only ones with this.

Because of this, you would not be able to wear the Summoner's doublet(and possible horn with vermillion cloak) when regaining MP with an avatar out, which makes you have to use Carbuncle.

Carbuncle has weak BPs so i just suggest taking out your strongest BP avatar and after BP release it, and then summon Carbuncle, equip Apollo's staff, evoker's ring(should be on already) and summoner's horn(if not wearing Vermillion cloak.)
this will give you free Carbuncle, and allow you to refresh your MP with him out.

Good luck to all the summoners ! especially on leviathan! ;p

edit: I forgot to mention, Vermillion cloak is an ok succes rate on synthesis, in order to HQ it(Royal Cloak) it is very tough, you need darksday(best day to HQ synths, but also downs success rate, mog enhancement> Earth? [not sure, i think v cloak requires earth crystal.])and also need imagery from guild. As for Dalmatica, it is a fiar success rate if you are a capped clothcrafter(100 or 100+2(3?) Dalmatica +1 is EXTREMELY rare synth, need the same requirements as royal cloak, except higher lv clothcraft.

also, the AF2 drops are very rare, for AF2 i just suggest going to dynamis, with 1pt to an alliance for AF2 farming, bring THFs with TH+ gear and lucky eggs (rare/ex food give TH+1) dont try boss with only 1 allaicne, you'll get blown away, and if you are going to farm for AF2, wont have time to fight the boss anyways >< also for doing AF2 farming if you're not satisfied with drops, you can go kill certain mobs for more time, not sure which ones ; ;

Horn Info
# Mar 17 2005 at 4:24 AM Rating: Decent
to confirm this, I'm on Gaurda server. The horn is not any day you are wrong.

The horn only works when Weather effect is in the area. I saw this horn for the first time a few days ago, Next time I see him I'll take a pic and send it in to show all if anybody still wondering.

Once again its only during Weather Effects
Its the body that gives Avatar -MP cost on the certain day.

Effect of the Horn
# Jan 22 2005 at 10:35 PM Rating: Decent
The Summoners Horn take -3 perpetuation cost off any avatar on any day. It is the Body piece that depends on the day for a -2 perpetuation cost. I suggest finding a way to obtain a Penance robe rather than use a the Relic Armor robe. Summoner's Horn, a Penance Robe, Light Staff, and Carbuncle Mitts should allow u to keep carby out at all times at lvl 75 and with the rest of the elemental staves the other avatars shouldnt cost very much. If u r on the Caitsith Server talk to Rio but use the Auto-translate function because he is Japanese he can make u the Penance Robe because he is a 104+ crafter in cloth and leather. Might take him a couple tries on Darksday but its worth it.

You can't be over 80 in 2 crafts, except fishing.
It's already very easy to keep carbuncle out at all times

It's already very easy for a 75 summoner to keep a carbuncle out. Light staff + Evoker's ring + carbuncle's mitts are all you need. If you put on vermillion cloak, your MP will even go up one a tick while carbuncle is out.

I'm pretty sure that a summoner cannot gain the avatar perpetuation cost-3 on the Summoner's hat at all times, because all the sites suggest the cost reduction is only present on matching weather, and that would only make sense from a balance standpoint. A full time -3 perpetuation hat would let you keep fenrir out with only 1 mp/tick drain.

u cant get mp gain with avatar out, u can have refresh+100, u will always have mp xxx-1/xxx

Wrong. If you have equipment enough to have free carbuncle (Light/Apollo Staff, auto refresh, Carby's Mitts) then if you add Vermillion Cloak to that, you get MP back with Carby out. I have a Vermillion Cloak and have been doing it for months.

Just FYI

Not possible to have 100 in 2 crafts, he is most likely 100+2 in Leather (with key item), and 60 in cloth, with the glasses (+1).

Anyway, if you want a Pentance Robe, chances of HQ are extremely low.

Crap, mt on the last post... anyways... ive read on other sites and through other sources that the avatar perpetuation of this item is dependent on the weather at the time. Confirmation anyone? Psh... like i possess this ;p

I don't know for sure but many of the high lv SMN i know say it varies debending on the day. ex. firesday the cost is lower for Ifrit. None of them accually own it but that does make sence.
