Speculated to be owned by the same minstrel buried in the tomb.

Just got the sword (1/1). I don't remember ever seeing it before, to be honest, and was a bit "wtf" when some people in LS were talking about trying to get it.

Was cooking on my mule at the time and two of my friends in LS got killed by the NM (had no healer and were not NIN or /nin). I got contracted to go and raise them, and decided to take my WHM/NIN for kicks. Raised them up, buffed myself, and poked the NM while they were recovering. Thing was not very difficult, although it attacks very fast and I was not evading many hits at all. But Stoneskin ate up quite a few of its blows; enough for me to feel safe. Its aga spells are a bit of a problem for shadows though, and if you don't have a way to remove paralyze then its howl move might hurt you. I didn't get to try to fully solo it, since my two buds were up and ready to go fairly soon, but I'm confident that with a form of Refresh I could have done it. Killed it pretty easily, although MNK friend took a bit of damage since he ended up tanking. I got the sword since apparently they were just killing it for kicks; will definitely sub this thing to Joyeuse if I'm ever messing around /NIN. Also very beautiful sword, Thanks guys! :3

Duo'd it as 67 NIN/WAR and 75 RDM/WHM. Really easy! A bit slow since my sword is not capped -.-, but if you keep Silence and Paralyze up it's no problem at all to kill.
1/3 :)
mine..

i killed this four times i think.. it popped in like 10 minutes one time.. and it took about 3 or 4 hours the last time. when i got the drop, i had a 71sam/thf, a 75sam/thf, and myself(70brd/whm). he was killed in less than 4 minutes.

Decided to camp this NM last night just for kicks(and it dropped, yay!). Since it is relatively untouched, it spawned almost immediately, so I know nothing about its spawn window.

Its spawn point is from the entrance to Eldieme accessible only from the Glacier side of Batallia (same side where Lumberjack NM spawns, as well as BRD AF2 etc.), i.e. Batallia F-5.

The NM's placeholders are among the 4 Tomb Wolves found at the northern half of E-6. It is a lottery spawn, and mob respawns there are 16 minutes.

The NM itself is pretty tough. It uses all normal wolf WS (Howling Paralyze AOE, Rot Gas Virus AOE, Methane Breath, Poison Breath etc.) and also casted Blindga(AOE, fairly fast cast) and Curse(single-target, very nasty HP-down). It will also use Blood Weapon as its 2hr.

I fought it as SMN75/WHM with my THF75/NIN friend. Eclipse Bites did anywhere from 987-1367 damage, normal hits ~80-90. When Fenrir got himself Cursed, his HP went from 60% to 100%, so that is a pretty nasty HP-down effect(assumably MP-down too) It didn't cast Curse on my THF friend, so I don't know whether it is blocked by Utsusemi. Even with evasion gear, my THF friend was having trouble evading hits(no thanks to Blindga spam), so I assume the NM has pretty good accuracy.

It also has quite an HP pool. Each Eclipse Bite took off ~8%hp.

With 2 people at level 75, we got 21xp, which puts it the NM at level 69.

No. Let's say Fenrir had 600/1000 HP. That's 60%. If his current HP remains unchanged (or lowered), the only way he can be at 100% is for his max HP to be lowered to at least 600 or less, making him 600/600 (100%).

It's pretty nasty, and could have been worse than even that (since there's no way to tell by percent, anything less than your current HP would have still made him 100%). I know the curse machines and Beadeaux lower you to about 25% max HP and MP. That's like Weakened.
Woohoo

I killed Cwn last night well I personally didn't but the 2 lvl 75 thf/nin that were with me pwned it. I got the drop mostly probably because one of them had thfs knife TH 3 (Yes, please.) so now I'm running around everywhere doing /hurray motion^^
this nm makes me cry

I've camped Cwn Cyrff for the passed week killed him with ls buddies every time he pops which is 8-10 hours more on the 10 side, and after killing him 6 times and no drop i'm about to head out and start slapping the people at SE for making this drop so retardedly hard. ; ; this is no longer about the sword for me. it's the principle of it all. That damn puppy owes me a drop and he's gonna give it sooner or later

So how many people think that the hound stole the Sword from the coffin of the Bard buried not far from the spawn point. You know the Bard in Bard AF2 - the one that slept with the Queen of Sandy?
Just got it
# Oct 05 2005 at 12:20 AM Rating: Good
I got this after killing the 4 place holder Tomb Wolfs twice each. The NM, Cwn Cyrff, popped and myself (75brd/whm) a 75rdm/nin and a 71drg/war took it on. After a long battle, about 6-8 mins as judged by recasting song buffs, we finally took it down. Got the drop, didn't know it wasn't 100%, guess I'm lucky. Props to BRD + RDM duo team!

And since I have it already...it spawns at the D-6 to E-5 area of the northern entrance of Eldieme Necropolis. Where you see the 4 Tomb Wolves is where it pops once they are killed.

I noticed the NM used blind, paralyze and curse. I evaded a lot of the status effects at 75 so there might of been more. I think blind and paralyze are AoE but curse is targeted. Nothing a BRD/WHM + RDM/NIN can't handle, DRG just made the fight go faster.

I notice a lot of BRDs using a Rapier, this sword compaired to a Rapier, it does about 15-20 more dmg per hit. dmg/sec is better than the Rapier. This is a great sword for those who don't have 24 hours of consecutive play time to get a Charybdis ToD or a LS big enough to kill him for that matter. Great alternative for the Joyouse.

Also, looking at the stats it wouldn't be that bad to equip it with the elegant shield and exp that way. (note: I'm not completely convinced an earth staff is better for Carnage Elegy than just having CHR for singing it. Hidden effect? No thanks)

FYI: I do have staffs and use them for exp pts.

I'm 0/2 on this.

As cool as this would be just on rarity factor, the effort to get is a tad extreme. Mob that drops this is on the FAR side of EN, it's somewhere from a 8-24 lottery, Bard can't solo it even though it's Bard only sword, it's not 100% drop.

I'll stick with Joyeuse.

BRD/NIN can solo this just fine just lullaby when shadows down and Evisceration should hit around 300-500 damage

I fought Cwn yesterday morning and got drop. 74brd/nin using heartsnatcher and joyeuse. I can tell you the Evisceration does not do 300-500 on him. If it did it would have been a shorter fight indeed. My dmg range with Evisceration was a low of 98 to a high of 200ish, most uses being between in the high 100's. I should also note that towards the end of the fight (probably an hour or more) he started resisting my Lullabies. Combined with his Drain-spam from being about 10% life at that point, the battle was definately not going favorably. I got some help from a passing ranger and finished him off, but I just want to make clear that Evisceration does not do that great of damage on Cwn, and that dual wielding swords might be the faster way to bring him down.

Bards can solo really well. I'm BRD60/WHM30 and i could take a Tiger that was lvl 63. Spirits Within = 470 DMG @300 TP. But yeah a lvl 60 BRD cant do it alone..
drd's will love it...
# Sep 16 2005 at 1:44 PM Rating: Decent
this sword is also handy for those that are in sky that sub sam because almost everth thing up there argoes magic and when fighting a god you want every one to try to start off with 300 tp spirits within here is a nice sword for brd to use for sprits within and depending on job hello 400-600 damage with sw

Um... How would it make SW do more damage than it already does? Isn't it simply determined by a percentage of your HP (300% being roughly 50%HP worth of damage).

I just felt like being the asshat to correct someone for once.. meh.

On the other hand, the description for Spirits Within is "Damages varies with current HP and TP."

Finally, a weapon for the bard other than monster signa.... And this one might actually be worth it to melee. I mean, with double madrigal or madigral and mineut, I bet a brd could do some decent damage and still handle the worries of keeping mages with their ballads.

Thought you might also like to know about the following weapons:

-Minstrel's Dagger. Since this is 1-handed, you can equip an Elegant Shield as well.
-Chanter's Staff.

I'd much rather have a Chanter's Staff myself. Trouble is nobody ever wants to run through Riverne to get it.^^

The sword is one handed so you can equip the Elegant Shield with this too. This is probably aimed more towards the farming bard though. Thus the accuracy. The knife is lower level, but still nice. And yeah, if I was a bard, I'd want that chanter's staff more. But, those cost an arm and a leg from what I hear.
Edit: Spelling ^_^;;
