I've had this piece for awhile, and I feel quite comfortable posting about it now. This piece is godly for any Dragoon that likes to /mage, and even for those that like to go pure /melee.

Test:
/Melee:Wyvern has to be at full(100%, no less) HP most of the time for the breath to deal full damage, but this is with no Strafe merits and no wyvern HP+ gear... 210 is the average breath my wyvern does with this piece on, and doubles exactly when using Deep Breathing: 420, very nice magic damage, and if you can close light and get it to MB, you do even more :D

/Mage:Wyvern HP can be anywhere from full to 1HP, and there will not be a difference in Healing Breath potency. Wyvern HP gear GREATLY increases the amount your breaths heal, my Minimum with no TP, no WyvHP, and no Deep Breathing: 364. Maximums with 300% TP, and using as much WyvHP gear i could get my hands on: 465. The average cure with WyvHP gear on without TP is about 412HP, thats more than enough to compete with Cure IV, and it only cost us 5-10MP. But with Deep Breathing, you can also give this a Divine Seal effect, and double the potency. Also, i've been hearing that Strafe merits add about 15HP to your cures per upgrade, very worth it if you plan to sub mage a lot

If you have any more questions feel free to ask, I may not have covered everything in this, but i plan to get Strafe merits and i'll let you know how it turns out. As for the rest of you Dragoons out there that don't have this piece yet, don't think it impossible, it just take a lot of time and effort, which is well worth the ability to say you are one of the most potent and efficient healers in the game.

210 is not the AVERAGE breath you will do with this helm, it is the MAXIMUM. While it may be common on weaker enemies, it is by no means "average."

No, it can be his average. The modifier with this helm will improves the base (with no other modifiers) to a 210 maximum but you can improve the maximum HP of your wyvern with other gears and it will exceed 210.

I can confirm this drops off more mobs than just the king zagan. about 2-3 weeks ago we did xarca and we got the drop. another drg in the shell got it. i was very happy for him, since this is a holy grail piece. then about 20 minutes later another one dropped. all mine this time.

so you can get multiple armets in one run, just like other AFv2, rare as all hell per usual though

Just got this bad boy off King Zagan, 332 base healing breath without drachen brais or strafe merits. A friend who has it as well said that each strafe merit adds about 10-15 HP per heal. I tried the armet with drachen brais just for kicks and got a 369 healing breath which was nice. I'll try the elemental breaths tomorrow for those of you who want to know. My thanks goes out to PerfectDodge Dynamis linkshell on Siren.

Ok, so we all hear about how great it is for HB, but what about Elemental Breaths? How does it affect the offensive breaths? Answer, anyone?

It is great for Elemental breaths aswell. with this equipped and if my wyvern has full HP i get 210 dmg. if i pop Deep Breathing before i do the breath it does do 420 dmg. not bad at all considering it can follow up a very nice penta for some damn fine dmg.
It's very nice

Got this on Friday (thank you Dynamix!). It dropped off the DRG Demon NM King Zagan.

With Drachen Brais +1 when my Wyvern has no TP, Healing Breath III now heals for 375 HP. With no cure potency gear (Noble's, Light Staff, etc.) this is identical to Cure IV :D. With some TP, I've seen Oboro heal around 400 HP. Going to try and find some crazy things to go get killed by... I mean go solo <_<

Just talked with and watched another DRG with Wyrm Armet in Bhaflau Thickets. He wasnt using Drachen Brais, but his Healing Breath III was doing 340, not too shabby at all.

I have had the helm for a while now, and its really the best piece of dragoon armor you can possibly get. With DRG/WHM, I used to heal at HNMs and the like. If you're familiar with how a drg/whm heals; you know that anytime someone is at about 50%, when a dragoon casts any spell with drachen armet (af1) on, the wyvern will focus a healing breath toward the person hurt. with a swap trick, if you use drachen armet with lets just say barfira(10mp)and swapped to wyrm armet before the spell goes off. Instead of healing for about 200->250, you'll heal near 400.

If you think thats a horrible piece of AF, you're damn ignorant.

Wyvern helm is much better with Physical Damage: Blaze Spikes and Str+5 instead of 4.

However, it's not too bad. If you just happen to leave that wyvern helm at home, it's not a huge loss. I'd toss the wyvern helm if I wanted to be cheap :P

Um....it does more than that....
See, DRG is blessed (or cursed if you only wanna approach this from that angle) with the ability to do two things quite well. First, and most commonly, their a PT team member. Dishing out damage, while never being on the recieving end of any. Second, the DRG has really good potential to solo. This is how the DRG AF/AF2 sets are constructed IMO. Sure, any job can solo a mob or two, but that's not what I'm talking about. IMO, next to BST, DRG has the best solo potential of any other class. Most other jobs after a mob or two needs to rest to recover HP or MP. The DRG on the other hand can kill many mobs, one after the other for EXP chains before needing rest.
Anyone who reduces the powers this helm grants a DRG as being comparable to Wyvern Helm isn't considdering the bigger picture. Sure if you want to JUST deal the most damage in a party, there are better things, grants, but the DRG sacrafices some of that party restriction for solo potentials. Don't be so fast to dismiss this set as being sub par with something else before you've done a more in depth analysis of what the job can do both in a party, AND on its own.

Dynamis X
# Jul 19 2005 at 12:16 PM Rating: Decent
i dont think AF2 in Dynamis-X drops from random mobs, only the Royal Family's which have thier jobs and drops the lvl 75 af2(relic) of that job. Ive done Dynamis-X 3 times ive only seen Melee Crown, Brd and Whm drop.
The Drg af2 helm, 33% hp for a 350-450 heal. Macro'ed its pretty nice.
A Friend, and fellow drg finally got his last piece of af2 and damn is sexy.

The regular Kindred drops AFv2 as well, I'm 100% certain as I've seen it happen ten times or so... And with Xarcabard clear it will even drop rather often, about the same frequency as in the four towns.
just a note
# Jun 29 2005 at 12:46 AM Rating: Decent
the 60 AF says,
"wyvern uses Breaths more effectively"

that does not effect the potency, but what breaths to use(offence) or when to use it(mage sub)

if you ever notice when you have AF helm on, and you have offence sub, it uses breaths according to monster's elemental weakness. good way to let your black mages know what elemental magic to use.

I'll never figure out why people post information as fact, when they don't know if it is really fact.

Wyrm Helm does make the Healing Breaths more potent (around 400hp), it triggers at 33% again. Note how it says "More Potent" and the AF helm says "More effectively".

No. All Xarcabard AF2 drops from NMs/normal mobs inside Dynamis. The DynamisLord, however, can also drop every Xarcabard AF2.

Would it be possible to use a WS with optical hat or wyvern helmet then switch to this before your wyvern uses breath?

Stats from spells are in effect after that spells casting is done, so yes it is possible as long as you can change out the helm before your wyvern finishes casting his breath attack.

It's kind of the same aspect of a bard switching out instruments for different songs: as long as the instrument is changed before you see the song in effect, you will get the ability bonuses.
the truth.
# Dec 12 2004 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
actually the AF2 helm doesn't trigger at 75% HP like the rumors state. nor is it 66%. it still triggers at 50% just like the AF1 helm. however, the potency of Healing Breath is enhanced. so instead of a typical Cure III-like healing breath, you get a Cure IV Healing Breath (ranging from 320-360 HP). it's the best piece for drg/whm.
NOT the truth.
# Oct 22 2006 at 4:25 PM Rating: Decent
WRONG!!!

Wyrm Armet triggers at 33%. You have to play a little with macros and the Drachen Armet to get it to trigger at 50%.

Example:
/equip head "Drachen Armet"
/ma "Dia" <t>
/wait 1
/equip head "Wyrm Armet"
/wait 1
/Equip head "Barone Zucchetto"

You may need to change the time on the first /wait depending on which spell you're using, like a bar spell that casts much faster than dia.

This is from a gal the Wyrm Armet almost daily and has a LOT of experience with it. Trust me, you're going to be very dissappointed if you pop it on before you start a fight and try to use HB at 50%. You may have a heart attack and break your finger by jamming macros and cursing God for making you the only DRG that it doesn't work for.
NOT the truth.

from what I have seen it is not blue, its just a lil bit of a darker purple, I have seen this piece of the Relic Armor up close 3 times and it was still purple, I dont see how it is blue unless everyones color settings are screwed up to where a dark purple looks blue to them, cause I dont see how this is purple.

I submitted the screenshot of the armor. The same guy was wearing 3 pieces of it and I've seen it around Bahamut a bit.

Here's how I'd describe the overall set: the base color is a dark purple with lighter purple highlights (similar to the artifact armor) and accented with silver chasing.

The helmet is mainly the dark purple base with the wings being the lighter purple color if I recall correctly.
