I was bored and my MNK is sitting at 67 so I figured I should get to work on the belt quests. I already had the Rampaging horn from farming in Konchant so I deceided to give this Lambert a shot. Well, I get a tele and this first thing I see on ws is Bloodtear Baldurf. I knew I couldn't take him as a 75 rng so I just went over to see who would kill him and see if they were kind enough to give the horn.

I get over to the fight to find a PLD/NIN and WHM duo'ing him. A japanese BLM and THF watching off to the side. I sent the PLD a /tell asking if I could have the horn if they didn't need it. First thing he said was <Gilfinder) <Can I have it?> Which is the same conversation I imagine he was having with the Japanese.

The only thing I could think of was at least RMT will give you a rare/ex drop like that 90% of the time, cause usally they are going for the big money drops. Then after they beat him to my astonishment he actually said 300k to whoever wants it. I was like "Are you crazy?", followed by the very disapointed Japanese that said <Monk> <Waist> <Auction> 300k= <No thanks> and warping out immediatly.

Well, let them just let it drop. Now I have about 16 ram horns, 20 ram skins and my nice Lumbering Horn for my troubles. So I made gil and completed my quest. Better than wasting my precious gil on that kind of junk.

I just hope someday down the road that person needs help and he gets the exact same response for something he needs.

Thanks for reading and to add in some useful info as opposed to a rant/story, it took about 1 and 1/2 hours from the TOD on Bloodtear Baldurf for Lumbering Lambert to respawn. I would say that it's safe to say he's a lottery pop on the southern ram. I have heard people have waited up to 3 hours for pop so I would say that the lottery window is 1 and 1/2 hours to 3 hours. Good Luck!

I'm a level 47 monk/thief; had just killed the other Ram in La Theine. When just down the road, there's Lumbering Lambert; checked just after Chi Blast-impossible to guage. So I figured; I should just Hundred Fist the thing. Bing. The Fists knock'm down to about 1/4 hp. He bellowed Hp down; knock'd me down to 220hp from 1003. Yikes. I suddenly remembered other gamers tripping here. So finally buffed and let Raging Fists go! Couple of more hits and he fell. When HP falls under 250-that brute is really dangerous.

I was a Lv 25 RDM/LV 12 war..i saw a guy named Chompi soloing against a Lumbering Lampert ( and loosing)in La Theine..my MP was low but he asked me to heal him...forgeting the mob would aggor on me afterwards i used cure 2 on him 3 times but he still died...of course now i get this brute after me...i had no chance of runing away so i turned, got hit for 60+ dmg once, then again for 55..i just paniced and hit him with a fully charged Burning TP at 300%...
did 140 ish dmg to it and killed it..it dropped a ram skin and the lumbering horn but of course no exp :(

I hadnet even fought a Battering Ram yet though ^^ So i have this item but it looks like i wont be needing it for a long time.

dont kill him

Dont take Bloodtear it took my friend 74rng,70whm,70pld,65drk 40mins to kill him...and all of them died at least once and hp to sandy and teleported back and killed him with no drop....not fun nm to kill
LMAO

As far as that lv30-35 RNG soloing Bloodtear...I don't think that's possible. I'm a lv55 RDM atm, I just killed him thanks to a friendly lv72 THF/NIN who saved me. First off, at lv35, 2 hits and you are dead, I don't care what job/race you are. Second, I'm a lv55, sword is maxed...Gravity was cast (and stuck) on Bloodtear and I STILL COULDN'T HIT HIM! So, as for a lv35, who has 2 hits before death...how in the hell are you going to hit Bloodtear with a sleepbolt everytime needed?

I soloed Lumbering Lambert at 30rng/15thf, not bloodtear. Taking on bloodtear would be suicide. If you're after the horn i would imagine you would be camping Lambert....

Story:
I just want to say it is possible to solo this guy at lv 30. I just took him down as 30rng/15thf while i was camping for ram skins and horns in la thiene. The fight lasted about 7 minutes. I was in a race to him against a 60 DRK. I stopped just within range and let lose a sleep bolt. I got aggro! So now i'm checking my friends list to see if help is available, my closest friend is in garlage citade... ok so i'm on my own. i have a stack and a half of sleep bolts, holy bolts, and bloody bolts... thank god. So i switch to holy bolts, sharpshot + barrage + hot shot him. 225dmg, barely took anything out of him... So i'm thinking, strategy, i need a strategy. OK well i have these sleep bolts, lets use those and keep him napping while i think something up.... Ok got it, Sleep him with sleep bolt, then run back just withing shooting range, shoot a bloody bolt (additional effect: HP drain) then immediately shoot a sleep bolt again while he is running full steam at me. Ok so it works! so here i go sleep bolt, bloody bolt, sleep bolt, bloody bolt... this is getting repetitive...Oh there's about 7 people watching but no one healing me...sleep bolt, bloody bolt, sleep bolt.... over and over and over. Finally i wear his 1983hp down to just a sliver left, i have 300%tp from all that sleeping /hp draining i've been doing. If i wasn't freaking out so much i would have realize i had sharpshot + barrage ready again, but never the less Hot Shot took him down finally.

He dropped:
3 ram skins
1 ram horn
1 earth crystal
1 lumbering horn ^^

I added up all the damage from the onscreen log, 1983 total HP.

Before he used rage i was hitting for about 24, after i was hitting for 55.
When he uses Rage his defense is cut in half, take advantage of this, sleep him if you can, wait for it to wear off and he will still have half of his regular defense.

He used Rage twice but i just let him sleep it off while i stood back.

Damage per shot breakdown:
Bloody bolts = 93.666
Holy bolts = 91.5
Sleep bolts = 40.813

Bloody bolts averaged 49.111 HP per drain plus the regular damage from the bolt averaging 44.5 dmg per shot for a total of 93.666 per blody bolt.

Holy bolts averaged 55 regular damage per shot, 36.5 additional light damage per shot for a total of 91.5 per holy bolt.

Sleep bolts averaged 40.813 regular damage per shot.

Advice:

If you're going to solo this guy, you're going to have a tough time below lv 35 for most people and for most jobs. If you do solo it i suggest using the method i did. 30RNG/15THF. Get a stack of bloody bolts and a stack of sleep bolts. you'll probably use about 25 of each i'm guessing. go there and kill rams over and over until he pops. Be careful though, 2 hours into my ram killing Bloodtear baldruff spawed and nearly aggrod me. About an hour and a half later Lumbering Lamber showed up. Always get his attention with a sleep bolt first. You can get organized and try to clear your head a bit. Sleep him a few times and check to see if you have any friends nearby that might be able to help. 1v1 as a lv 30 isn't the best option. If no help is nearby just sleep him, move far enough away so you can get 2 shots in before he hits you and repeat that over and over until he's dead. If he uses rage, sleep him twice in a row so he has some time to cool off. No matter what you do, keep your distance. I don't recommend using barrage at all durring the battle btu i do highly recommend saving sharpshot until you're not looking so hot HP wise, then use it if you need it. Barrage only slows you up and gives him a chance to get in a few possible hits. Eagle Eye Shot wasn't ready for me but i would treat that the same as barrage, try not to use. If your sleep bolt fails and you're 2 hits from dead, Eagle Eye Shot, but otherwise, take the longer, safer route. GL to anyone else after this beast, he's a fun one.

If you have already done this quest, you can sell the horn to an NPC for around 768 gil.

I've now gotten the drop from him 9/10 times. Not 100% drop rate, but it is very high.

my suggestion would be if you were 15thf sub you had sneak attack. use your method of hp Drain and sleep. but once a minute when he is asleep sneak behind him and do sneak attack. (have used this lvling solo while looking for a pty) Not sure if it would work on this NM but it works on eaqual or lesser lvl mobs.

I just faught this guy again and realized a way that even a lv 25 rng, possibly even 25thf may be able to take this guy. Sleep bolts give effect sleep on just about every hit, if you came with a few stacks of just sleep bolts, you could just use them over and over and over. It would take a few stacks of them I'm sure, but it would work as long as you can hit him. Like i said above, the best strategy is to go in with a higher lv, but if you're desperate for this drop, then this is a possibility.

I was coming back from the Dunes tonight, and as I climbed up the ramp at the mountain shortcut, a ram popped in front of me.
Woot, I thought.
As I drew closer, I could see the words above its head; Lumbering Lambert.

With a rush of NM excitement I ran up, took out my sword, and threw Bio II on him. He turned from where he had just been aggroing on a guy in lizard gear, and came pounding at me.

That was the best fight I've had out of a ram in ages. I'm a level 45 RDM.
He took about two minutes to kill, and while I got lucky in that he didn't petrify me, he did use Sheep Charge, which I've never gotten out of a ram. Weird.

I was very excited about the drop, until I discovered the horn was rare/ex ^^ Oh well, guess I'll do the quest now!

ok lambert is NOT soloable by anything less than 30, i BARELY did it with my mnk back when i was 33, and i still had to use hundred fists. his Petribreath attack really hurts, it stuck to me for a good 5 seconds before i could do anything, it almost killed me. when it finally wore off i hit him with a 150%tp Combo and killed him.

BUt yea if you see him and you are a job anything less than 30 be careful, u MIGHT be able to kill it but it would be a very tough fight.

Good luck to all ^^

I was coming back from dunes getting pwl by my husband who's a 25pld (me atm: 14smn) when we were running across La Theine and came across Lambert who we thought was just another battering ram; when I targeted it and it was in fact Lambert! We knew he was too strong for us but we fought him anyways (we didn't want anyone else to get him...lol) and we almost beat him too, if I only had my 33whm with us. My hubby called for help, and the 4 other ppl that was watching the fight started to beat Lambert up. One person called us idiots for calling help...but all we said back was...yes...we are. LOL!!!
