each merit counts as +5% damage increase, 15% total with full Overwhelm merits.
extremely handy for any of the standard war/thf/drg subs, sam/rng is of course not really able to take advantage of positioning for this to work as well.
lol /thf

Did anybody ever think that maybe this trait would benefit those who play SAM/WAR as well? You know, where your location relative to the mob doesn't make any difference. This would be a great way to jack up your WS damage as SAM/WAR without having to really vary anything you normally do. SAM/WAR ftw!

SAM/WAR

Lol! Sam/war is good only to give a chance to the main tank to get him on. i`m playing Sam/drg, not only for jumps abilities, but for the fact i can solo a skill chain alone, giving me a high rate of hate lol, it`s funny to do, if you need exitement in the party, there you go. i solo mostly with sam/drg , having STR capped with merit(yukikaze, gekko and kasha are 3 based at 75% on your STR) evasion and Great Katana Skill capped too, you have an edge, specificly with Overwhelm ability(you can push it to +30% damage on ws when face to face to the mob with merits)i've only been defeated by a great pld in my linkshell, there is a point all sams have to conciderate in battle, the mobs most die before you lol, use all your power to defeat it before it does on you. for soloing, indeed need seigan + third eye working all the time, that is where haste gear comes in. so subing warrior to sam isnt effective at all for 1 STR more and double attack whos working a lil 5% of time. but still have brutal earring.

Thank you. Samurai is a versitille character, and you'd think with the posts before this one, /THF is the ONLY option. I have a 75THF and a 75SAM, but when I am using SAM, I tend to go /WAR, all hate allocation aside, /WAR simply does more damage (over the whole of the party, not per WS). In high-chain areas, like KRT or Caedarva Mire, it tends to be a free-for-all, and /NIN can be useful. Finally, I don't do dynamis or gods w/o /RNG, and all you SAM afficianatos at least have an idea why.

As for the Sidewinder question, it's hard to tell, as Sidewinder has such a varying damage rate weather or not it works with Overwhelm. I'd alledge so, since the description doesn't have any stipulations (like Hasso or Seigan, with "...when using two-handed weapons.")
how much

How much of an attack bonus does this give you? For example- a ws that did 500 when mob wasn't facing did 550 when it was facing??

what do you guys think are the chances this will work with sidewinder? cause if so it would be sick.... is there anything that says that it has to be a melee ws and not a ranged?
worth it or no?

I think this kinda sucks... after all, the point of subbing theif is you can SATA to do more damage and place hate

For thief subbers:
  • SA = crit on first strike of WS, increasing damage
  • TA = hate transfer behind other party member, no damage bonus

  • So they have to choose between SA behind mob for extra damage or Overwhelm with TA in front of mob. I think it will depend on how much the damage increase is to determine whether this is worth meriting.

Of course, i think this presents new possibilities for SAM who like to tank... hehe (Third Eye, B+ evasion, A- parrying, solid HP and now something to keep the mob facing them)

That's a good point, Jackal, but I think you're missing something. Just because a SAM subs THF does not mean he always has to be behind the enemy. Plus, like everyone else seems to say, SA/WS paired with this does some good damage to keep hate on the tank. Doesn't hurt to keep mobile when you're DDing.

    Just my two cents. :)

for tp burn with sam/thf this ability is tits IMO... i was doing a burn in moon yesterday (yeah, everything else was packed so you do what you gotta do) and i was thinking that it would be nice to do meditate - sa ws, ta ws with overwelm back to back. use third eye in there and you'd get hit like once before you tacked hate back on the tank...

only. /THF doesnt transter hate facing a mob so u still get hate on big ws... only the rare times where a war or mnk can pull hate at that last second.. its funny how al this time ppl think that SE would give /thf acess to lvl 60 thf ja's Assasin {Yes, Please} is what u mean..

ok... judging by your sig you should know this o.O

TA transfers hate wherever the mob is facing aslong as theres a person infront of you.

TA is not a guarenteed hit, like SA.

Assasin makes TA kinda like SA , guarenteed to land + critical.

You are missing some very important possiblities for Overwhelm. First soloing, this will increase the damage you do, because when you solo you are face to face with mob. And secondly, in HUGE fights like Grand Dragons(and some other HNMs), you never want want it to turn around or it will one shot ur entire pt/alliance. In these situations you cant SA so you end up TAing off the tank to give him hate. This will make your damage go, drastically maybe, and trandfer more hate to tank.
    Nice

This seems like a real good trait to have, should be great for stickin extra hate on the tank.
