Lots of HP but horrible def = crazy damage
# Feb 07 2008 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
I helped one of my LS members do G2 the other day and decided to test my damage capabilities on this with my DRK. I wore my STR gear and got to 300% subbed thf. Did SATA with souleater on it. unfortunately my connection here in Iraq is slow so I ended up hitting it with souleater like 3 times before I did SATA which brought me down to like 870 hp from my max of over 1400. As you may know the lower your hp the less damage souleater adds. In spite of that, I used Sata Spiral Hell on the hound and did 4551 damage to it lol. I was like damn! Certainly the most damage I've done to any mob in a single attack.
healer is a must

Weak to slash damage + basically negative defense = great fun. I just solo'd this thing last night as 75 War/Nin with only my NPC out for cure support (and minimal at that because after a few Cure V's she was out of MP).

First I opened the fight with Steel Cyclone for 4,083 damage then I switched over to using Axe to finish up. The fight took about 7 minutes and my Rampages varied from 1,678 (lowest) to 2,203 (highest) with a few 2,000's in between. It wasn't that bad, but Warrior's low evasion showed because it was hard to keep up shadows. I could blink away Freeze or just interrupt it, but paralyze from Howling and Ice Spikes made avoiding Blizzaga II a pain (that did between 100-200 damage to me and 250+ to my NPC). It doesn't hit very hard (though his weaponskills could pack a punch... 100-300 with the Breath attacks going through shadows), but it hits fast and fairly accurate for a mob that's "only level 58". I finished the fight with just under 300 HP and I began with 1297.

Pretty much any job that has a decent attack rate, a strong WS, and minor cure support can solo this thing.

Your NPC isn't considered a soloing tool if you use it for such?

Duo #3 of 3
# May 14 2006 at 12:54 AM Rating: Decent
Duoed this today.

RDM55/BLM27 (me)
WHM75/NIN37 (<3 Marren!)

This was the third mob of the series that we duoed. It was easily the longest fight, and probably the hardest as well, but we still came out victorious in the end. Marren did the grunt work - melee, buffs, etc. I did the backups - Refreshing, Hasting, debuffing, backup curing.

The Boreal Tiger *wishes* it had this kind of HP. Marren was Hexa Striking for 1300-1500 damage and each time the HP bar barely moved. On the Boreal Tiger, at least you could see a visible drop in the HP when she used it. So yeah, the Boreal Hound has crap-all for defense, but an ***-load of HP. that makes the fight super long.

The other problem? It can and will use Blood Weapon. This made life difficult even for us, as it not only did a lot of damage to Marren, but also regained a lot of the Hound's already-impressive HP. Thankfully it only uses it once, so as long as you can outlast that, you're good to go.

The Boreal Hound uses ice-based spells, namely Blizzaga II and Freeze, so you want to beware of those. As well, it can use an AoE Disease ability and an AoE paralyze ability. It is extremely resistant, and probably immune, to Silence, so don't even bother. I also found that it's much more resistant than the other two mobs to all debuffs. In fact, after a while I stopped trying to debuff it because nothing was sticking, even with Elemental Seal. I just saved my MP for curing Marren. She needed a lot more help there in this fight than the other two, because it was eating up her MP a lot more. I pretty much told her to focus on meleeing and Stoneskinning and using Utsusemi while I took over the main-healing. A little unorthodox, but it worked. ;)

In the end, though, we came out victorious as with the other two, and I got my triangular frigicite. Many thanks to Marren for the help!

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 03 2006 at 6:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As a 55WAR w/o any buffs outside of my own abilities (and Warcry was paralyzed), I landed a 2,010 Rampage on this thing.

After killing the first two mobs for 55 cap, my pt went to the cave of the hound to rest before we killed it...It agroed, all mages low on mp, then it diseased us, so we were screwed from the start. At about 50% hp, it started spamming Blizzaga II like there was no tomorrow. We all used our 2hours, then died one by one. The war/nin and I deleveled from it. Someone called a whm from thier LS to help...but of course, the hound jumped out from a blind corner and agroed him. Luckly, the NM doesnt leave its cave, so he simply had to run out of it. We were raised, it ran over, drew me in, and killed me. Once again, I was raise, and those who were no longer weakened went to go fight it. The entire battle, the war/nin (who deleveled) sat in the cave, then decided to go fight EPs outside to get his level back. Then everyone started using thier "Fun vocabulary", considering we were fighting it for 10 minutes, and he didnt have a clue. After all that, it died, and I broke my 55 cap.

Bottom line: This thing has annoying-as-hell AoE's (paralyze, disease, and blizzaga II), and reisists silence and bind. Have fun.

Well we got a bunch of people to go out there and get G2 done with. Long story short people didn't get their crap in time and it respawned and killed us all. It really sucked, but as a level 53 thf I managed to about 1100 with SATA + VB. Was only able to do it once, but thats the most I've ever done. I don't care what's up with these mobs, but it was sure awesome to do that much damage.

I was just looking for the outpost.

I find a cave going outside the map. Cool!

Death!

He aggroed by scent and double attacked me for 115 and 115 and then finished the job with Freeze.

If I hadn't paniced and cast cure III and then warp scroll, I could have possibly run away. Don't know if I would have had time or the ability to sneak/invis past all other mobs to zone though.

So in short, he detects by scent! Not just sound.

Just want to add I was a level 50 smn >_>

I'll just keep on editing some... followed the link to the quest and saw this:

"NM that has sneak and invisible detect"

guess I simply need to read everything on allakhazam to avoid more deaths ^^

I quit thf, but I dragged my 60 thf out there and did a couple 2100-2200 Dancing Edges last time I was there. Not to bad considering only 60thf with subpar gear :p

Almost got 2 drk's killed though... >_>;

what makes this mob so hard? i have heard it takes an alliance to kill and even then it takes a while... but according to RKenshin it only has 29k life and low def. i know it has some strong AoE but thats it.

I love this mob, it has like no evasion and negative defense... A RNG's dream mob :)

Pulled off two 2.5k damage Slug Shots on it and a 2.3k damage Barrage. Then I almost died from agro, lol.

I ran a Damage Parser during the fight, and so according to it, it has about 29000 HP.

It uses a lot of strong AOE Magic also, like Flare and Blizzaga II, etc.

Disease
# Jan 20 2004 at 1:30 PM Rating: Default
For those that dont know, Disease prevents types of regeneration (most importantly, mp) even when healing. Make SURE that when you alliance to fight these monsters for Genkai II that at least 2 of the WHM's have the "Viruna" spell to remove disease. It lasts for a LONG time :\

The spell is available in Jeuno in Weeg-Daag's Magic shop for 13-14k, or at AH for slightly more.

Also, in our experience, its nearly impossible to keep everyone unparalyzed in this battle. The hound seemed to use his Howling ability (Area of Effect paralyze) every 10 seconds.

This mob is one of 3 for genkai II the lv cap 60 quest. The cave for him is at G-10. Fight him deep in the cave becaue once dead a ??? spawns in the back target it and click it to get the triangular frigicite. The mob has many special attacks:

Dity Claw-Single target dmg
Howling-AE Paralyze
Poison Breath-AE Poison
Rot Gas-AE Disease

It can also cast Blizzaga II and Ice spikes in the batle.

Once its dead and the ??? spawns for about 20 seconds. Click it and run becaues the Hound will respawn fast. You only need to kill this once for everyone there. Must also have quest active to be able to taget the ??? and get the frigiite.

Although it drops nothing when killed there is no Hexagon rock item you get. It's only the key item frigicite.
