I'm 1/0 on the shield (I have one already so if your on Cerberus and want one send Diachi a /tell) ^^

I was doing Mission 2-3 and got a tad annoyed that I didn't get enough gravel So I went on a tiny killing spree. I targetd and attacked the first thing I see, a Quadev, "easy" I thought "not only will i be able to lvl my G.Axe more, i'll get some cash)" Then I spotted it was called 'Bu'Ghi Howlblade' and it was {Impossible to Gauge} at 90% health it was easy, I used Iron Whirlwind (? the second G.Axe one) a couple of times, and tried to steal from it.

It used Mighty Strikes on me, but I didn't take too much damage (may have been because I was lvl 24 at the time)

All in all a good drop ^^
Fun hunt

My wife and I hunted this guy for a while before we found the right spot. When you find the machine in this area, make sure you're at the bottom of it. We hunted him at the top. He spawns from killing the beetles down there and he's not hard to kill. We got the shield and it sold quickly but most importantly, we got to add him to our kill list. It was a fun hunt in Palborough.

This shield isn't a bad drop. I was mining in Palborough the other day and everytime I came around his spawn area I would kill all the copper beetles and then go about mining. After doing this for a couple of rounds, he popped, killed him and got the shield. I continued this process and am currently 4/4 on this guy. It doesn't hurt that this shield is going for around 30k-50k on Sylph server. Anyways, just thought that i would share.

Bare with me, it may seem like this has nothing to do with the story but read it all any way (there is some kind of point towards the end):
After doing some Hoo Mju-hunting trying to get a Monster Signa, but instead getting eight or soo Mitts from him, my economy was quite good. Bastok was first(!) so I took a break to get my Bastokian ring and swap nations. To get some conquest-points I went out with my newly unlocked PLD and thought it was a good idea to get a decent shield right from the start so I bought a Marine Shield from AH for 50k (on fairy). Well, also doing missions for my new nation, Sandoria, I ended up going into these Mines to get some Mythril Sand.
I knew there was a NM here but I didn't really check what he dropped so (it was ages ago since I read about him but I did remember that I needed to kill beetles for him to spawn) I decided to check him out. I killed two groups of beetles.
There wasn't many other players around. A few that seemed to be on different floors. A mithra ran past, waving, but disappeared like she was chased by a Quadaw. Not that I had to but just because there wasn't much else to do I knelt down to heal a few missing HP when all of a sudden the whole area (just where you pick up the Mythril Sand) was full of Quadaws all going for my throat. I had been doing some skillups earlier with low-skill weapons for other jobs; greatsword, polearm and such, on my level 24 WAR. Swapping back to my fully skilled-up Neckchopper the turtles were all easy but I can't understand where they all came from, and why they were all so aggressive since I normally just aggroed the ones close to the burning circle on the third floor. Seconds after the last one fell Buggie pops up and I hit my provoke-macro.
And just as I got claim the place was also full of other players (don't know where they came from) but they were to late (and they were definitely not killing any placeholders beforehand). He he.
Well, to make an end to this story: I was a little surprised when I got a second shield. I sent one of them to my son.

Was doing the Sandy Misson 2-3. Put the ore in the refiner and jumped down to get the onz of mithril sand to finish up the quest and I saw the Bu'Ghi Howlblade sitting there. I quickly asked my LS if it was a NM and they all said "kill it." Got the marine shield drop, how convenient. :D

On Sylph, I was waiting for Trey to show up so we could get his last Kaz Key, so I decided to check out Bu'Ghi's spawn site. Camped for no more the 20 minutes, killed like 8 beetles, went out to smoke, killed 4 more beetles, and he spawned.

Got the shield.

One thing I noticed- It seemed every time the beetles spawned in waves of 4 every 7-10 minutes. Right before Bu'Ghi spawned there was a single beetle that spawned on the other side of the Retainer Lever contraption. After I killed it, he spawned.

UPDATE: I logged after killing him. When I woke up this morning I killed one wave of beetles and he popped right away. Same deal, a beetle popped out of place on the opposite side of the Retainer Level. Got the shield again. Not a bad deal.

~_~

Peace

Edit: Typo, Update

Through my whole mining career, I've gotten the marine shield from him 15 times in a row. I believed it was a %100 drop.
Now I'm at 15/16 when he dropped the Scale Gorget.

Time is right on this one, I killed the Copper Beetle's that where wondering around, and when they started to respawn, who was with them but none other then Bu. Killed him, and got the Shield, interesting way to spawn this NM I gotta say, weird that Bettles are a placeholder for a Quadav....

i was hunting this NM today at around 3:40PM, earth time, and he popped up 20 mins later at 4, and i got the gorget. i continued to hunt him and to kill the beetles and he popped up again at about 5:10. so it seems like the beetles are a placeholder.

By the way, i have killed this guy 4 times, 3 times he dropped the shield, and once the gorget

Has anyone killed this guy and not got the shield? I think the shield might be 100% drop rate, or pretty close to it.

Just killed it about 5 minutes ago, no shield...

Only dropped a Scale Gorget, so it's not a 100%drop

I'd have to agree, I'm 4/4 on it.
