General Information

King Vinegarroon's Spawn Location
King Vinegarroon's Spawn Location

  • Can spawn 21-24 hours after it despawned or is defeated, but only during Earth weather (single or double weather does not matter). If no Earth weather forms during the 21-24 hour time frame, King Vinegarroon has a possiblity of spawning during any subsequent Earth weather.

  • Will despawn if the Earth weather in the area dissipates and no one has hate on King Vinegarroon.

  • Has a draw-in effect that will pull all members of your party/alliance that are in the zone to it. This will also pull members of your group that are on Chocobos as well as members that are dead.

    • After a draw-in effect triggers, King Vinegarroon will always follow up with an AoE Tp move.

  • Has a potent auto-regen effect that cannot be dispelled.

    • The regen effect is far more potent during the night than it is during the day.

  • King Vinegarroon's melee attacks can inflict an additional Petrification effect.

  • Grants title: Vinegar Evaporator

King Vinegarroon Special Attacks

  • Earthbreaker: AoE Earth based magic damage with additional Dexterity down and Stun effects.

  • Venom Storm: AoE strong Poison effect.

  • Wild Rage: AoE physical damage with an additional Poison effect.

  • Death Scissors: Strong single target physical damage.

  • Mandible Bite: Single target physical damage.

  • Venom Sting: Single target physical damage with an additional Poison effect.

Historical Information

The Vinegarroon is a member of the subspecies of arachnids known as Whip Scorpions, named as such due to a stingless whip like tail used as a sensory organ rather than a defensive weapon. Unlike their scorpion cousins, the Vinegarroon has no venom to speak of, but instead expels a mist of acetic acid as a defense mechanism.

pwned him fast
# Jul 18 2007 at 1:48 AM Rating: Default
after we all gathered it took are LS about 40-50 seconds to take him down from 100%, bunch of Mnk/drk and KC drks and his like drops super fast.
/grin

Call me crazy, but i went 1/2 on the drop. I got mine on 5/22/07. Got ToD Sunday, killed Monday, lost ToD Tuesday, geared up for a 6+ Hour window (I started camping it three hours before Mondays ToD) Wednesday and it popped first-second window, got drop, uncontested. A V. Claw also dropped, hehe.

Facts:

*It's window are 21-24+++++ hours. It can spawn several hours (at the very
least) after its window ends.

*Can spawn on single earth weather.

*Has an extremely high chance of spawning on Earth Day/Earth weather x2. I've
only seen it spawn on something other than Earth day once, and we killed this
NM numorous amounts of times after i got the drop (no drop;).

*It can spawn mid-weather, but usually once earth weather hits.

*It spawns in the exact same spot everytime and is extremley huge.

*It does not aggro or link.

*It is Chain Spell Stunable - thats how we did it, along with 2+ Krakn DRKs
including my self.

*It depops after losing hate once weather is gone, so having a RDM/NIN kite is
essential when gathering members.

GOOD F*CKING LUCK!

Was running through Altepa after update, saw this on widescan and went for a looksy. after admiring it for a while my girlfriend told me to hit it lol. Yes i did as im stupid. Charmed a tulwar scorp and sent it for a spanking then proceeded to /Run away. Hit me for 360+ Dmg with stoneskin Add effect petrify. Oh yah his draw in seemed to work when i was running away not just on TP moves
. Dead in 3 hits, good times.

Can spawn during Single or double earth weather. Despawns when he loses all hate and there is no earth weather. His regen increases at night. 21-24 Hour. He dosen't draw-in when you try and run away, only during some TP moves. Spawns at G-11 of Western Altepa Desert.

stunable?
# Dec 13 2006 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
is this thing immune to stun?if not was thinking a chainspell stun full out zerk may work.we've got a few 75 drks with Kclub to bloodweapon souleater and swing away lol.
spawn location
# Aug 16 2006 at 12:51 AM Rating: Decent
i was curious if there was a spawning location on this NM and if so where ?
Stoneskin
# Feb 03 2006 at 6:35 PM Rating: Decent
one thing to note, ( i was standing on the sideline during a King V fight) that the poison eats stoneskin. even out of any compbat my stoneskin kept wearing quickly.

p.s. asked a friend that didn't have stoneskin and he said dmg for poison was 30/tick and when i checked mine it was 20/tick so SS might dull effect.(if we miscounted or anything please post correction)

Obviously with heavy regen it's HP will go up over time. I parsed our fight and we did 28,000 dmg in under 60 seconds for the kill.

The key is to just obliterate it as fast as possible. It was actually an insanely easy fight, no one even died. Most people would probably say you just go all out manaburn but we only had like 4 BLM's in the alliance, the rest melee.

Helm actually dropped, it's the first one on Siren. No v.claw.

To the poster below, King Vinegarroon's draw in works exactly like the Minotuar's (PM 2-3), as in, if you are in the zone when it draws someone in your party/alliance in, everyone, including yourself (even if your on a choco) will be drawn into him.

I tested this on some people i was camping Cactuar Cantactor when they were chocoing back from changing subjobs, they came with the choco's.
#Lobivopis, Posted: Oct 24 2005 at 4:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't believe that for one reason, when you are on a chocobo you cannot be on a mob's agro list.
I wonder
# Oct 13 2005 at 4:21 AM Rating: Decent
You know...... i was just thinking.... 20 ppl, dependent on levels, fighting a undead with aoe drain or the equivalent wuld take forever. Culd this scorpions regen effect be based on how large a pt/alliance is?
Positive note
# Oct 02 2005 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
Well on a positive note at least its in a zone where a few experienced helpers can kill any mpk attempts.

funny story. My ls decided to tackle this guy just for kicks. After porting a party to altep, i had to stop in rabao to change to main job. while in there, they decide to engage before it despawns. So i'm like, "crap, can I get there before they all die?"
Anyway, I hop on a choco. I zone and look at the map and think "crap, i have a long way to go, I won't make it before they die" and at that time, my screen kinda flickers. I'm like, wtf? look at the map again, and I'm there! He drew me in from Rabao zone while on my chocobo. lol
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 07 2005 at 10:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) so if what everyone is saying is true about the hnm, ur looking at major whm power, or med's, give or take around 30 people range close to 75, my advice is if u want it that bad have 2 alliances setup one to take it on and another backup, incase **** hits the fan, seeing as his hnm does alot of damage use nin tanks and have come pld's here incase u get someone tryin to steal, ou will need major dd's for this one, if u want to put a halt to the auto regen, i would say use manaburn style for after sc towards end so the thing cant recover. but hey im just alowly 70 whm, my job is the easy partkeeping u alive.

Hell no you can't solo this. It's got massive regen capabilities and an extremely large HP pool. This is considered an HNM (High-level Notorious Monster)and will probably take hours to beat. I watched an alliance fight this guy for 2 hour and barely move his HP. maybe a 1/4 of the way. Then again this was way back when it first came out, so people maybe have better strategies now.

Drops multiple V. Claws, well worth the fight.

That's nothing, I saw some guy 1 hit kill a Wild Rarab solo. But none of that really matters, because this page is about King Vinegaroon.

The HNM ls, Feather, on pheonix beat this guy. If you wanna know what he drops, ask them.
How?
# Aug 26 2005 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
If anyone has seriously beat this thing and is on the boards I'd love to know how you killed it. I've seen everything I could think of thrown at this guy from LS's. BLMs did roughly 500~ dmg per IV spell, not to many major resists but the Auto Regen is just ridiculously high on it. I've seen it taken to about 90% life dozens of times after a Light Skill chain and multiple MBs but it would regen to full before another SC went off. Also has anyone figured out if its preventable to stop the AoE draw in? That's really the only thing I can think of that would let the Alliance damage faster.

was walking through the area and saw that he was up. so i went and saw him being kited by a *** ninja. got a SS and then argoed a cacter near him charmed a tullwar and took him to a "Safe" area away from knig. midway though the fight in the chat box it says that king killed me. no dmg was delt it just said he killed me. just wanted to warn all of the people who would wana go get a look at him.

Edit: in the screanshots of him after my death i see a guy fall off a choco and die.

Doesn't Aggro
# Aug 19 2005 at 2:58 AM Rating: Decent
I was quite surpised to discover that this NM doesn't aggro. Me and many others would around it and /poke it, but it didn't attack. I atempted to fight it with an alliance, we took down like 2% HP then wiped.

My brother try this with 16 lvl 75.
They where whipe out by his AoE. Almost 500+ a hit.
They should put down that he drops Heavy Shell too. He has seen JP running around with it after the battle.
