Historical Information

Qilin (Kirin in Japanese) was a creature in Chinese mythology said to have the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the scales of a fish, the hooves of an ox, and the tail of a lion. It is said that the Qilin is a benevolent creature, only becoming violent when a good person is threatened by a sinner, in which, among other ways, it will attack the sinner by breathing fire.

While the dialogue spoken by Kirin when he is spawns suggests that he is one of the Shijin of East Asian mythology (see Seiryu, Suzaku, Genbu, and Byakko), he is never in actuality associated with them, but is another prominent creature.

that is because a lot of people feel that you can measure a linkshells success based on how fast they kill things. Faster =/= good linkshell. Just means they have the proper jobs to do it and blowing out 2 hours and whatever. Not every linkshell is geared that way with those jobs. When you do it with tactical burn style it leaves a very small margin of error to where one person can mess it up or you get really unlucky. I have heard stories of shells doing TP burn and kirin did stonega IV followed by tidal wave and completely obliterated the alliance. All 2 hrs were gone and used and they lost their pop items due to kirin depop. I'd rather take it slow and stead, you rush things it less room to deal with things that can happen

Yea like Forest Hares in West Ronfaure. They are so tough. Once, our alliance dropped like 6 times trying to take down one. Br careful when taking them on, good thing San d'Oria is near by so we can zone if we get into trouble. O.o

congratulations. . .how many days do u play already ? Kirin is years old, from a time when the 3 great wyrms and sea didn't exist, when krakens or abjurations were a rare sight, merit's didnt exist along with many other abilities or equipment. He was meant as a challenge for that time, same as Behemot was once hard to kill. Times did and do change, your "challenge" Vrtra or AV will sooner or later turn into joke as well and make place for others to come.

And besides, even after all the time 1 thing about kirin did NOT change, the fact that stonegaIV or stonegaIV+ astral flow is beyond devastating.

Edit: there's ls's plainly kraken&souleater burning Tiamat for a lil cash.

Kirin Dies at the Hands of LOTB
# Sep 23 2006 at 11:12 PM Rating: Decent
Well, there were many skeptics that thought our beastly ls could not do it. Yes, it was a fight that was ages in the making. At dawn we ate the best cuisine, made love to our significant others, and threw on the finest armour for what could have been the last time (forget raises). As the sun rose in full splendor, the gleam on the brass and steel matched the shimmering tears of our kin.

The fellowship of the beast otherwise known as LordsoftheBeasts, gathered at the divine grounds of the gods. These brave beastmasters and honorary bsts (rdm and whm) entered the dominion of the GOD of gods with one united message, "Kirin: we've come to kick your ***********

Undeniably, Kirin did not stand idly by. Left and right, we saw the horrific events unfolding...pop Byakko...pop Seiryu...pop Suzaku...and the montrous rock known as Genbu. We fought with all we could muster as blood and sweat mixed with an unsavory taste, the bitter taste of death.

One by one we heroes fell, and just as quickly another was there to take one's place. Spectators were present just to gawk and jeer at us in such an unsightly way. We did not give in, we could not forsake the promise we made to everyone who said the brethren of LOTB could not succeed. It was our commitment, nay our destiny to prove unto us and the world that an even the gods were no match for our beastmaster power.

Little by little Kirin's strength was waning, Courier Carries, Panzer Galahads, Fungar Familiars, Lifedrinker Larses, Chopsuey Chuckies, and Amigo Sabotenders flanked him from all sides....piercing his every *******. Even this ultimate deity eventually bowed down and conceded defeat. We won one for the clipper...err...I mean gipper.

Tired, hungry, and in need of some lovin', we marched out to our respective nations as comrades-in-arms as we looked up to the sky above Sky and cherished the moment.

.........so.........what is next for these great warriors? Only time will tell, and it will say that --------> LOTB RULES, FTW!

Having done my first battle with Kirin last night, it's not unusual to see non-allianced groups/parties on the playing field. For our purposes, we had a separate group just for the summons he spawned...they had to be non-allianced for the provoker to Call For Help (CFH), then the spare members took care of the summons, while the main alliance kited Kirin. Many of our group was rotated in and out as needed during the long battle. We did *3* Kirins last night. @.@

Saturday, July 1st, 2006 will go down as the first time Clan of Chaos on the Phoenix server spawned, and in an epic two hour battle killed Kirin. My congratulations to everyone who was there, and to all who planned this event, camped NM's for spawn items, and killed the Gods for Kirin spawn items. In the end we recieved our rewards, and came together like never before. Way to go!

Just beat him today on Siren. Drops where Osode, Pole, Neptunal Abjuration body (mine), orichalcum ingot, and a wind xtal. took us about 1 hour and 30 mins. we kited him around the entire fight. blms nuke. be ready for his 2 hour and always have some back up kiters just in case.

fought him a second time today. drops where osode and dryadic body. second time was much harder. he went on a few rampages and his hp stayed still for 45 mins at a time.

Further more straight after genbu he astral flow our sorry buts, but we still came out on top. Drops were D: Abj, Kirin Pole and N: Abj. no shining cloth ^^;

# Feb 26 2006 at 2:44 AM Rating: Decent
my ls straight tanks 90% of the time, the only time we dont is when kiting while killing the summons, and after astral flow as that usually wipes us, we average 45min-1hour kills
RE: strait tank
# Apr 06 2006 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
Uh then strait tanking doesnt help you if it takes you an hour. My LS on Bismark uses 2 kites and thats all we do, tow him around, he has too many stun/bund/sleep and AoE moves to be smart strait tanking it. Between me and the other kite NIN/WAR and WAR/NIN, we might die 1-2 the whole time and thats cuase we goof off. We kill him everyweekend and everytime in 30-45mins. KITING. Dont change what works.
Get 2 good kites stack +20 enmity and go at it.
"Aramahk is too far away, repeat, repeat, repeat... thats how you beat him. Make him waste his time. Im #4 on the list for Osode!! woo!

All the other Kirins I've done before I never really paid attention. But since starting my own LS I can give you the stats on the only 3 we've done so far

Osode: 2/3
Pole: 2/3
Shining Cloth: 1/3
D. Body: ...3/3

No idea why we keep getting that and nothing else, but it was the only thing to drop from our first one.

I have fought Kirin twice personally and for my LS it dropped the second time along with a Raise III scroll. First one gave us an Osode. I heard the droprate for the abjuration isn't that common, so take note of that. If it's common... then have fun getting the togi :)

Took my LS less than an hour both times. Fun fight.

towards the bottom it refers to Qilin ("Kirin") being known as the "Chinese Unicorn" and directed a link to this page...

Just to clarify this discussion of Absolute Virtue:
BlueGartr did NOT spawn AV and has not even killed JoL. JoL was killed by an alliance of some JP and NA linkshells on Pandemonium server.

AV automatically spawns after JoL dies. It's most common spells are Tornado II, Aeroga IV, Aero V, Meteor, and Comet. All of which are insta-cast. It's believed he uses all 2-hrs and is highly resistent to magic and most physical damage. However, Chi Blast, Spirits Withim, and an Aegis'(AF Shield) Shield Bash seemed to do moderate damage. The main issue was its powerful magic and insane regen. It recovered 1000 damage almost as fast as it was dealt.

Heh, makes you wonder what the hell the SE dev is comprised of. After all, SE claims they don't add a mob that they can't beat themselves.

About SE being able to beat it. You know they are in a practice field with nothing on it, using characters whom they artificially maxed out on everything, merit points, gear, etc. They also created the beast so they know exactly what to do and what not to do to kill it. Not a very good barometer of whether or not a group of players will be able to beat it with the vague and otherwise lacking information they have.

also just to clarify, SE has done the most evil thing.....EVER

AV is not a guarunteed pop. Aparently some 3 or 4 other servers killed JoL a day or so after the jp, and AV didn't pop =(

SE, while you may own the game you may never own our souls! (too late for me though, but meh)
RE: Absolute Virtue
# May 14 2006 at 10:34 PM Rating: Decent
Because they had to take it out to fix it for something.
Anyways, the reason its so hard is because Kirin was the big bad guy for awhile, and now people can beat him like clockwork, so they needed to add something so freaking impossible...
