Summary

You are once again in the employ of Lady Karababa. This time, your role is to protect the ambassador within the ominous Navukgo Execution Chamber. Will you be able to redeem your reputation with President Naja...?

Walkthrough

After completing the AU21 - Finders Keepers mission, head to Navukgo Execution Chamber on the Vozold Island area of Mount Zhayolm.

Upon entering Navukgo Execution Chamber, you will receive a cutscene. Upon the completion of the cutscene, head deeper into the chamber and click on the Decorative Bronze Gate for a second cutscene. After its completion, click on the gate a second time to receive a brief cutscene before being teleported to the battlefield.

BCNM Fight

Six people are allowed into the battlefield, with a thirty minute time limit imposed on the fight. Any buffs on the party members will be wiped upon entry, so be certain to wait and buff inside.

For this fight, you will be aided by Karababa to defeat the chimera type mob, Khimaira 13.

Karababa will appear in front of Khimaira 13 upon entering the battlefield, but will not perform any actions against it until you or a member of your party have begun fighting it. Once she has engaged it, she will attack by casting various Black Mage spells, each time reciting a brief incantation beforehand that indicates what type of spell it will be.

  • For Flare II - "Fuel for the fire! It does not pay to invoke my ire!"

  • For Burst II - "How I love to rip things asunder! Witness the power of lightning and thunder!"

  • For Quake II - "Sometimes it comes as quite a shock, how much damage you can do with a simple rock!"

  • For Tornado II - "This battle is growing stale. How about we have a refreshing gale!"

  • For Flood II - "Water is more dangerous than most expect. Never fear, I'll teach you respect!"

  • For Freeze II - "Well, if you won't play nice, I'll put your sorry hide on ice!"

At multiple times during the course of the fight, a message will be displayed saying that "The Khimaira's breathing has become ragged". During this time, its physical attacks will be far weaker, and it will often be intimidated by whoever has the most hate on it, be it yourself and members of your party, Karababa, or pets. This period of weakness will wear off over time.

After certain conditions are met, Karababa will say, "That's quite enough...It's time for me to start playing rough!" and then proceeds to begin spamming tier 1 elemental spells for anywhere between 800 to over 2,000 damage for each spell.

If Karababa's HP falls below 50% during the course of the battle, she will escape, though her presence in the battlefield is not required in order to win the fight. Likewise, if you and your party are knocked out during the course of the battle, it is possible to still win the fight if Karababa manages to defeat Khimaira 13 before she escapes.

After Khimaira 13 is defeated, a cutscene will begin, ultimately instructing you to return to Aht Urhgan Whitegate and talk to Naja Salaheem.

Nobody mentioned that it's not hard to keep hate on this thing, even with that taru throwing out all the AMIIs. Bind, Grav and little more was enough to keep it chasing me. It only hit Karababba because she's a moron and insists on standing so close, and it was too far away to hit me when bound. So try to drag it away from her a little bit before binding.

I also suggest you stagger Bind and Grav so you're not burning Grav time when you know it will be bound for a little bit.

RDM/NIN can do this without too much trouble, just keep your shadows up and don't stick it too close to the NPC or she'll gripe when it whacks her and you'll want to kill her too.

RDM/NIN solo'ed this just now in all casting gear except for a jelly ring and a swift belt...

SOOOOOOO easy.

Never resisted a bind or grav, just stagger those two so you are never missing both for two long, keep shadows up and cure the angry taru lady when she needs it. Such and easy kiting fight.

I just soloed and won this with 75 Nin/Dnc. Died once but I had RR on. Mostly eva gears with 8% haste and some accuracy. I forgot to bring food and no medicine needed excpet for an au lait which was a useless waste.

I didn't try to kite, just regular solo fight. I focus on shadows and then blind, slow, paralyze, drain, steps, weigh down etc. It took 12 min and the first 11 min was smooth. I only got hit with 1 or 2 regular hits and ~4 aoe during the first 10 min but nothing that dnc's cure2 can't handle.

When about 10% of his hp left, I was unlucky and got killed with 4 consecutive hits while shadow down. It turned to the taru and made her mad. So she killed it with a tier 1 spell.

I have only 1/8 evasion merit so I think it will be easier for Nin with full eva merit.

Just soloed this as 74rdm/nin. Fight wasn't too bad. Fought it on Lightsday, had 0 resists on bind or gravity.

Basic strategy is to go in, and fully buff and rest to full. Run up and bind the NM, cast gravity, poison II and bio II. (DoT may not be necessary but I wanted it to go a bit faster.)

Then run back to the start point of the bc. When NM gets into the circle at the top, bind and repeat at bottom, reapplying gravity as needed.

Expect the fight to go about 10-15 minutes. Don't bother nuking, just keep away from the NM, Karabbaba will do all the work of killing for you. Make sure to have reraise up in case things go bad. If gravity wears off as you are trying to get up the ramp the NM will catch up to you pretty quick, make gravity your first priority as bind timer will likely be unready. Once up to top/bottom of ramp reapply utsu and restart your bind cycle etc. All in all pretty easy.

Where there's a will, there's a way!

Went on a run with our linkshell last night. I decided to try "supertanking" it as pld/blu for a change of pace. Our group was me, rdm, whm, rng, smn and blm. Basically, buffed up with Metallic Body and Cocoon, rdm hit me with Phalanx 2, Garuda buffed with Blink. No food, basic tank gear, nothing fancy. Ran in while the others stood back to heal me at the top of the arena. I ran past the NM to draw hate and turned it away from the group and Karababa (aka Shantotto) After taking a few hits, Karababa starting nuking the NM. I'd taken maybe 200 dmg before it turned. We all kept Karababa healed while she nuked him down to 1/4 HP. At that time, we all joined in, either melee or casting. The fight was over from start to finish in a little over 6 minutes. No deaths and Karababa never warped out.

With a supertank, I could see this being done with 2 or 3 ppl, the tank, a healer and a magic DD.

This was one of the easiest missions I've done. Went rdm/nin solo, it didnt get one single hit on me and didnt resist gravity at all. That taru did some awsome damage during his "rage". 11min clear time

Duoed this as 75PUP/RDM using WHM automaton, and a 75MNK/NIN with little trouble. Just keep the auto out of AoE range, and let the MNK tank. If the MNK dies before the win, just wear full EVA gear, and he can barely hit you at all. xD Beat it in 10 min 26 Seconds, not the fastest, but it sure wasn't very hard. Good luck everyone!

I've done this fight once before, and I remember having to cure karababa quite frequently, however this time....this happened
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v137/Merkyor/pol2007-11-2720-42-04-96.jpg

He attacked her like normal for the first round, then after that He kept getting intimidated by Karababa. At about 50%, we were sitting around with full MP so the BLM asked "You think I'd pull hate if I started nuking now too?" I told him to go ahead, the worst that would happen is he'd die. So he nukes, and khimaira turns on him, just to be intimidated repeatedly also. So at about 40% we were all bored so I went up and meleed as WHM and the other people joined in too. He didn't seem to have a problem using his TP drain attack, and he only used his damaging AoE 3 times during the fight.

Does anyone have any idea why that would happen? It didn't make a difference wether "Khimaira 13s breathing has grown ragged" or "Khimaira 13 has recovered."
We started on Earthday I think it was end finished on Watersday, Waxing Crescent 14% moon.
75 SMN solo, no death
# Nov 02 2007 at 5:48 PM Rating: Default
75 SMN/*** (I brought /WHM, but when I won, I didn't need it)

1) SS, blink, RR
2) Kite with *Fenrir* (pluto, penance, sanction, evokers = 3mp/tic)
3) Don't die.

With Fenrir, you have plenty of time to get away and recast. Run all the way away. Once you are done casting, run further away if you can, and make sure Fenrir has hate. Try to do nothing else. Don't heal, don't recast SS. Eventually, the taru will go through her spells and kill Khimaira, but you will never have to heal her.

Most important! Know when to quit. If you go down early, run away. I was 1/4 on this because I was tweaking the recommended setup. Carby was terrible, as they said.

Another idea: A Spirit with AF2 Body and merits? That was my next plan. Could get off a few spells for only a few mp more.

Starting mp: 969
Ending mp: 74

Did this with WHM75/NIN37 BLM75/WHM37 RDM75/BLM37.
I was the WHM.

I ran in at the opening of the fight (fully buffed) and flashed the NM on my way past it.

The NPC started firing off AM2 and I was able to keep hate or get hate back with a flash.

He hits very hard and very fast and killed our RDM when he got involved. After R3 and some tricky kiting, (mind you R3 is hard to cast while you're kiting a guy this big) we began gravity kite. Flash seemed to do the trick when it was up, otherwise I used CureIVs for hate. Would've been much easier to kite with an evasive class, but I wanted to bring Raise3 in the event of a mishap.

Summary: Trio WHM BLM RDM - Better to have a NIN or THF or something evasive with Utsusemi:Ni than a WHM tanking, but if you're a WHM, you CAN do it with NIN sub and a whole lot of "I don't care if I die." No need to draw weapons on this NM, you'll just give it TP to kill you and your friends with. The NPCs AM2 is constantly doing 700+. Fun fight, we didn't bring enough people, but we pulled it off anyway. ^^

Vala healed and enfeebled while i kept the hate, npc took no damage at all but still complained about needing a cure, bad temperd little twerp

Dancing edge was doing between 500-600 dmg a time, NM hit me for 200+ when he got a lucky hit inbetween shadows

When weakend he was hitting for 20

I just went 1/2 on this fight doing it as SMN solo, here's my advice/guide/how my fight went.

The thought of SMN kiting this fight gives you the idea that it'll be as easy as solo/kiting bombs for exp, or at least it gave me that idea when I heard that kiting was the general stratagy(?) but it's really not that easy. He runs pretty fast, even against my Herald's Gaiters.

What I did at the start of the fight was buff up as described below, run in with Carbuncle out so he'd auto-attack Khimaira, and then kited with a difficult time doing so, then eventually die. The death came to be apart of my plan though.

I advise a different starting plan:
I think it would be best to try and start off the fight like this. Buff up with Stoneskin, Blink, and Reraise 1 since no exp lost. Rest back to full if you casted reraise yourself, but I used reraise earring on occasion to save MP or if I didn't have enough to cast it, and I kept it equip at all times so I wouldn't have to wait for that 30sec warm up just incase I died.. anyway.

Whip out Garuda and run up to Khimaira, he'll start attacking you or Garuda but either way immediately do Predator Claws. Basically try to get off as many Blood Pacts as you can and get his HP down a bit. You're gonna eventually die I think and it's part of the plan anyway.

Now getting back to what actually happened during my fight:
After dying, I reraised and kept my eye on Karababa. After the death Khimaira had no interest in me at all, all of his attention was on Lady Karababa. At this point she started kicking his butt hard but getting fairly banged up herself, so I spammed cure 3 on her as much as I could (though the weakened recast is a bit of a pain) I had divine seal up so used that too.

Eventually Khimaira got her HP low enough to make her warp out. I had a little bit of MP left now and he was just about dead. After she warped out Khimaira kind of just stood still and didn't come for me so I summoned Garuda and gave the assault command followed by Predator Claws. Astral Flowed for the MP refresh effect from it and even cast Dia 2 on him. Garuda kept attacking him. My MP was extremely low, under 100 for sure and Garuda's HP was at 40% but luckily he didn't maul her right away and I stood there shaking in my shoes as his HP was barely at a sliver.. and then, he died.

To recap - What I did:
1. Enter, buff, crappily kite with carby.
2. Die, reraise, spam cure 3 on Karababa as she gives/takes a lot of damage.
3. Karababa warps due to low HP. Summon Garuda.
4. Use the Assault command on Khimaira followed by Predator Claws.
5. Astral Flow for refresh due to low MP left.
6. Watched Garuda keep attacking and threw out a Dia 2.
7. To my relief, Khimaira dies.

What I advise:
1. Enter, buff, summon Garuda and run up to Khimaira.
2. Khimaira aggroes you and Garuda auto-attacks.
3. Use Predator Claws immediately then run away.
4. Resummon Garuda upon her death and do Predator Claws again.
5. Do as much damage to him as you can and then...
6. Die, reraise, and target Karababa.
7. Spam cure 3 on her as she gives/takes damage.
8. Either you keep Karababa alive long enough for her to kill it or..
9. Karababa warps after her HP gets so low, summon Garuda.
10. Assault Khimaira and use Predator claws, given you have the MP.
11: Leave Garuda out and attacking, Khimaira should die.

But pretty much it isn't that difficult if you wish to do a test run and come up with a plan/stratagy of your own, no exp lost so just bring a reraise earring. I did this without food, drink, or medicines so perhaps if you wish to bring some along, they may help you greatly.

Good luck! and my apologies if this was any bit hard to understand, I re-wrote it quite a bit.

Just soloed easily on NIN/DRK. Plan was to Stun-kite it, but it turns out it's faster than I am. Luckily, its accuracy is an utter joke. Used about half of my evasion build and a bit of enmity gear. Used Stun and job abilities for hate, and Kurayami and Hojo whenever they were up. When I got and stayed really low on MP, I switched to using Bind in place of Stun every other time. It would occasionally go and smack Karababa once then come right back. At 2%, I made the mistake of binding it on top of her and he caused her to warp out so I had to switch to DD gear and engage. Didn't hit me once, and I often found myself casting Utsusemi with multiple shadows already up just for hate.

Did this 10 minutes ago as SMN75/WHM37. 1/2 on it. Couldn't find any SMN solo guides on any sites so I went in assuming I'd be kiting as usual. Went in RR'd buffed carby'd and went it. Put carby on the Khimaira 13 and just kited up and down the ramp. about 2 minutes into the fight he annihilated carby and came after me. after I died he turned on Karababa. I got up and saw that she took the thing down about 50% by the time i had gotten back up. I didn't cure her fast enough so she escaped leaving me with carbuncle and Doom.

Second fight i did the exact same thing but was very careful to run as fast as i could to the other end of the ramp and cure or buff SS OR Blink only once per cast of carby because he rips through squirrels like nothing. got him down to about 75% then I took a dive and released carby. Summoned Garuda, and Predator Clawed him. took him down about 7% and then desummoned. and waited for Him to rip off my face. He did, turned on Karababa and I popped up. Started to cure bomb the hell out of her. if she got below 70% I used my one Divine Seal to bring her up. Thue just kept rotating Cure II and Cure III till he got a lucky shot on her and brought her to 48% and she escaped.

When Karababa runs I didn't have hate, so I summoned Fenrir and Eclipse bit the last 3% away.

No food or Yags used. I had an Apollo's Staff, Yinyang Robe, and an Evokers ring to keep my MP capped before I ate it.

Oh my, this really is easy to beat and I'm going to tell you how we did it w/o any deaths at all... was a piece of cake. The 1st time I did this we tried to engage and assumed someone had to die to get the taru take hate, yada, yada, yada... it was messy and lots of deaths but we did beat it. None of this is necessary at all and here is how you can do this no death, no problems:

We go in, head down the ramp, Peevil WHM75/WAR37, Cari BLM75/WHM37, Shake WHM75/BLM37 and me PLD75/WAR37. When you enter, the taru is waiting there at edge of circle and the mob is in center of circle. We plan on only getting sight aggro on me so the other 3 stop at the end of ramp and i head straight to mob to get his attn and pass him so that he turns around with his back facing others and the taru. I had terras staff on at this point to reduce dmg.

He hits me a few times but nothing really that bad, I just needed a few cures and this begins the fight (if you want to call it that lol) The taru starts doing her thing now. I DO NOT engage, voke, flash or anything. Just stand there. i never draw a weapon. The taru begins casting on the mob and at this point the mob stops hitting me and focuses his attention on taru only. Mob didnt ever turn around to face her. Kept facing me but didnt hit me. I, and the mages just sat there and cured the taru the rest of the fight. I switched to dark staff for rest of battle. And, so from that point on: CURE TARU. No one engaged this mob at any time. That's it. That simple lol. Truly dont even need a tank just someone to initially get its attn once you enter and take a few hits. No deaths. We didnt beat the time on the battle but we went to win not set records. 14 min and it was over painlessly.

Hope this helps some. Good luck and HAVE FUN!

Take the nyzul isle staging point, head to the colibri camp, head all the way to the bottom (the point where you cant get back up) and zone. Follow the one way path, keeping sneak and invis up, zone and your on the island.

The fight is very easy, trio'ed it as 75 ninja/war, 75 rdm/whm, and 75 war/ninja
nothing special, used food, but probably didnt need it.

I dont really get the "easy fight" posts. An unweakened khimara hits faster than a colibri for over 100-150 points per hit, and higher to a 75 pld. It interrupts spellcasting very easily too..it was hard to impossible to time cure iVs.

when its weakened it does much less damage, under 20 to me. Shantotto though is erratic..if she disappears youve pretty much lost, as once it is unweakened it will tear through your party.

Round 1

Ok thought I would give this mission a shot Soloing. 75 BLM/WHM I am. Ran in and Elemental Seal + Bind and it worked, he stood there for while till NPC casted in what I thought would of gave hate to the NPC and did not, ended up dieing and RRing up. Stood back and just cured the NPC and when mob was 44% she left.

Round 2

Was same atempt but spammed Cure 3 to Cure 1. Same results.

Round 3

Brought one of my other BLM friends in as a duo. I ran in died as usual since that seems the to be only way to get this fight started and RRed up. Stood next to my BLM friend and we just spammed cure at the NPC. We kept the NPC 100% HP through out the entire fight. By time mob reached 42% she left again. WTF! NPC was 100% hp and she still warped out, there is something very tricky about this NPC. We also weren't even close to being out of MP.

Round 4 (today)

Bringing the BLM again and a 75 WHM and maybe thinking the NPC may be looking for a higher tier of cure (cure 4 or 5). Update aftwords.

I had the same problem. It seems like the number of hits she recieves and not the level of HP. (This was tried with 2 WHM and RDM.) I am now trying the direct way. A full party, and let Karababa nuke to her hearts content. Since once you make a direct attack on the Khimaira 13, it ignores her completely. Leaving her "0" hits on her and my team can focus on the Khimaira 13. Hope this helps us both.

so me and my 11 partner decided to try it out since all of you said you just heal. i was 75 blm/whm and he was like 70ish rdm/blm. he would start with e.seal/gravity and kite it for a bit for her to get hate. when he died, for some reason, it came right at me and killed me. anyways, since we were weakened, spell timers were longer and couldnt cure her fast enough. left everytime. mad, we went back to whitegate and picked up a thf. so he ran in, got hate and blink tanked it the whole time. no problem at all! rdm hasted/debuffed, i cured and nuked.

when the taru chick had the hate, she did some crazy spell dmg. but when she never gets hate, her spells don't really do that much.

plus when he is 'ragged', a good time to build up mp and what not.

Gravity/bind/stun/stop/para...they all landed. i got shock on it too for a while. happy hunting!
