Summary

You have been ordered to participate in the search for Aphmau by the Immortal, Amnaf. You are to begin in Periqia, ancestral land of the corsairs.

Walkthrough

At the Dvucca Isle Staging Point, click on the assault gate when ready to enter into the special mission assault. If you fail to win the assault, you may speak with the nearby Imperial Immortal for another pass. If you lose again, you'll have to wait until the next game day to receive another pass.

In the assault, you must kill the leader of a group of eight notorious monster lamias. Each lamia is called K23H1-Lamia. Once the correct Lamia is killed, the Assault automatically ends and another cutscene happens.

Battle Notes

Listed are tips and tricks for beating this assault mission:

  • The lamia have true sight.
  • The lamia inflict powerful poison which does 80 mp/tick.
    • Poison is inflicted with all melee and ranged attacks.
    • The lamia also have an AoE frontal cone poison move.
    • Bring antidotes to get rid of poison.
  • Having a summoner, or a puller with /smn sub, helps with pulling.
  • The lamia can be easily slept but are resistant to lullaby.

Over all the mission is pretty simple.. in the fact the Lamias do die rather fast. I do want to stress the poison they inflict is pretty potent. Poisona is a definite must to cast if no one thought to bring antidotes.

As for the additional information, they are not spread out like it sounds from the wiki above. They are all more or less clustered together but one will branch out far enough to pull. Patience is your friend when pulling.

We did not have anyone go /smn and on our first pull, every one of them linked and we were face first into the dirt in about 20 seconds. We reraised and tried again, being a little more cautious this time. I would sight aggro but not engage in the case they all link I would die. This would leave the rest of the party safe. This worked perfectly with a little patience in pulling and got the win after the second kill.

Overall, this mission is pretty easy and the key things are Poisona, Antidotes and a mage come as /smn. Again, taking one, even two on is easily done with a party of 6. Sleep seemed to land but didn't seem to stick long. Also, they use range attack so when you pull, you will have to run way back to get them to follow.

Our party setup was:
Pld/war(me)
Drg/??
Brd/Whm
Rdm/Whm
War/Nin
Blm/Whm

NIN/DNC

Solo'd by NIN/DNC with evasion gear (full evasion merit, +7 evasion skill, +69 evasion at night). Won on the 4th try. Need a bit of luck because sometime I killed NM with full hp and ~200 tp left, but sometime dangerous.

Strategy:

Started the fight at 18:00 for nighttime bonus (+10 evasion and 25% running spd). I had 15% haste gear but was afraid and didn't swap for casting shadow.

The frist pull will almost always link. If link, run to lose hate and pull when they walk back. It is easy to lose hate even without running spd bonus. It is possible to pull 2nd and 3rd NM without link.

During the fight, if got hit, the priority is shadow first (both Ni and Ichi) > antidote > curing waltz. Always keep drain Samba, blind, slow on NM. paralyze works too. Try not to use tp for erase, use antidote instead. But I used healing waltz sometime when i had extra tp or needed to get rid of poison quickly. No WS at anytime.

It took around 24-26 minutes to kill 3 NMs. After the 3rd dead, CS started. Item used: Sushi, RR, 2 persikos au lait, 1 stack of antidote, 1 icarus wing, although RR is useless.

** It seems some people have trouble loosing hate. What I did was, cast blind2 and run back to where I spawn. I usually lose hate when I get back there. You need to run straight until you stop hearing battle song. 4 shadows should take care of the frist 3,4 arrows, shouldn't need to stop for shadow casting on the way since the mob are left behind while they stop for the first shooting.

SMN/WHM solo

Finally decided to work on ToAU some more and soloed this as 75SMN/WHM in 17 minutes. It's not a hard fight in the least. The hardest part of the fight is the resummons in between, and keeping MP up, of course. This is the toughest part because there's a large chance you'll be caught with poison, which if you weren't already aware, does something ridiculous like 80 damage per tick. This is huge for me, as I'm a Taru and have about 560HP or so. It's good to have antidotes with you, as I'm almost positive you'll be caught with this at least once. While poisona is only 8 MP, it's good to save as much as you can.

The strategy:

Pretty straight forward fight. Buff up - Stoneskin via Titan or just cast it if you want to save more MP. Rest to full if you'd like, but it shouldn't be a big problem not having full MP. Typical SMN carbuncle pull to start. Before retreating make sure to run a pretty fair distance, don't leave Carbuncle enough where it'll be killed by Poison. After retreating Carbuncle, continuing running(you have to be the judge here. You have to be sure you're at a distance far enough that the Lamia can't be ranged attacking you while you're mid cast otherwise the poison will kill you quick, even with stoneskin up.

Once you've resummoned(the summons doesn't really matter. Anything you can deal quick damage with is the best choice. I used Titan as it was Earthsday and I have Summoner's Doublet, so the -3 Avatar Perp. was a huge help, not to mention Titan's Earthen Ward helps tanking a bit) you should know what to do here, beat the living hell out of it. When the summon gets low on HP, start running out of range as you did in the pull. Let the summon die, and resummon. Repeat what you did as it was pulled. At this point you should be getting around the halfway point on MP, so you can either use Carbuncle or summon one of the stronger summons. If you haven't killed it in the second summoning set, repeat the same thing you did before.

Assuming you have killed it, rest to full and repeat the same strategy as the first pull. Rinse and repeat the strategy above until you kill the 3 that need to be defeated.

Of course, this can all be avoided if you've got a DD friend or 2 that is willing to help. I helped a THF friend of mine about 2 days after duo this and it was beyond easy. Won in 9 minutes.

I'm wondering if anyone has beat this solo as BLM before. I'm attempting to do so, and if I'm successful I'll post the details. 0/2 on my attempts so far. But has any BLM done this before? If so, I'd like to hear how you pulled it off. I can see it as possible, just very difficult (Time being the biggest enemy.) Any input or advice would rock.

Duo'd with myself as 75Smn/Whm and a 75Sam/Nin.

Buff up
/Ma "Titan" <me>
Earthern Ward on the 3 of us (titan included) Stoneskin gives titan a lot of time to live, while you run to /recast. Any avatar would probably work, but he's def and self-stone Skin just seemed smartest/safest.
/Assualt on any lamia (don't get agro'd!)
Run away
/Retreat
/wait 2
/Release
/Ma "Carbuncle" <me>
Sam/Nin starts killing
Each one took about 2 minutes to kill.
Kept him alive with Regen, Healing Ruby, and Cure 3's.
They are very weak mobs, the only hard part is pulling.

Just repeat this for 3 Lamia and you win.
Plenty of time to spare.

Any /Nin DD would work, I actually think a Smn could solo this mission.
Just make sure to bring the Antidotes.

Good Luck.

I just soloed this as 75rdm/20smn. I wanted originally to go /nin to blink off poisonous arrows but the lamia really are NEARLY impossible to pull without linking(when I went to scout it out as /blm I managed to agro pull 1 by itself but after killing it I wasn't able to repeat that feat), and thus I was forced to resort to my gimped smn... The fight would be significantly easier if smn is 37. You would gain auto-refresh and your avatar would last longer than one hit (literally, Fenrir couldn't take a single hit, I had to release him IMMEDIATELY to avoid getting links).

Basically I put up buffs, pulled out fenrir (with refresh, HQ staff and smn gimped at 20 I was still gaining 2mp/tic) then pulled 1 lamia. I took it back into the tunnel and slept it. Make sure to keep blink up at all times, if it wears off during casting of a nuke... interrupt casting to get it back on. Even with blink the lamia still landing some shots on me, and I went through the better part of a stack of antidotes. Stoneskin is a nice buffer so that you dont take damage before you have a chance to use the antidote. I used Blizzard III > Sleep I > reapply buffs if needed > repeat. My convert timer is reduced as far as it will go and I still found myself waiting on mp before it was up again... though I had less mp than I should have due to the lvl 20 sub.

I was never in any danger of dying but time was really a factor, I finished with less than one minute remaining. That might also be helped by the auto refresh from a fully lvled smn sub job. You would also benifit from being able to use garuda with aerial armor to pull, which would let you get further away before releasing.

I just won as 75RDM/37BLM. I used darts to pull (fast and gives a little more breathing room for the pull).

I waited until I could pull with only 1 link and then ran for a few seconds to confirm I only had 2. Then I cast sleepga -> buffed -> sleep II on one -> chainspell Thunder III on the other.

When chainspell isn't up: a thunder 3-> blizzard 3 -> sleep -> buff cycle is a safe way to approach the fight.

The third kill was also done via dart pull. I waited until I could be confident that I would not link. If time is short, pulling 2 or 3 wouldn't be the end of the world as long as you can keep them slept.

Medicines/Items used: about 8 antidotes, a pro-ether +1, hi-elixir, and a melon pie +1. It's probably possible with just the antidotes if you're attempting to be cheap though.

I attempted to take a Fraps video of this, but of course it did not register my "start recording" key... The pull (and spamming antidotes) is really all there is too this as RDM though. Barpoison seemed to kick in once or twice.

Did this with four people when it first came out :O Apparently nobody else cared for these missions and after hours of shouting we decided just to go in by ourselves.

75 Mnk/nin, Drg/whm, Rdm/blm (I might have gone /whm I dont remember), Blm/whm

If you can cleanly pull with no links, it isnt hard to take down any of the lamias. Our blm was the puller >.o and we wiped once due to an entire room linkage, but only after we managed to kill one lamia.

We reraised and when unweakened our blm pulled again with no links this time. Killed that one and on the 3rd pull we once again, linked the entire room. We killed the 3rd lamia and were warped out before any deaths could occur^^

So not too hard of a mission. The poison sucks and I seem to remember having a hard time keeping the lamia slept >.o
Very easy

The CS rocked btw! xD hehe
Regarding the Assault, I did this a couple of hours ago with a NIN, BLU, DRG, WHM and me (RDM).

All 75s I believe.
Was so easy, we were lucky to pull 3 Lamias only, and the correct one was one of them.

Here are my thoughts if we happened to pull them all, elemental seal + sleepga would keep them asleep for a very very long time, probably enough to kill two or three of them xD! then move camp back a little bit, and pull them back one by one until you find the correct one, of course the other members of the party that have /war should provoke the sleeping ones to make recasting sleepga easier.

Why the hell use antidotes when you can use poison potions? Every single hit they land on you causes poison. Antidotes are a waste of money.

this mission is extreamly easy... rember your antidotes thought. the downfault of this mission is if the correct Lamia is killed before you get the antidote off you will die... very long CS like alot of them
easy mission
