Summary

Walkthrough

Note: This is an escort quest. You can only have one escort quest active at a time. Other escort quests include Escort For Hire:San d'Oria, Escort For Hire:Bastok, Escort For Hire:Windurst, All By Myself and The Big One.

You can only undertake a specific escort quest once per conquest tally.

Marin (E-10)wants you to tag along and watch over her brother Ken (E-10), but he has a spoiled brat complex and tells you to shove off. So, you have to undergo covert ops and essentially spy on him and make sure he lives. You must keep him alive......but you can not be seen.

You. Can. Not. Be. Seen.

Enter Dangruf Wadi and you are capped at level 10 when you talk to Ken and begin, so prepare accordingly. Your role here is opposite of that of the higher level escort mission. In those you are to kill everything that naturally aggros to your escortee; here, you are the weak one and must be ontent to watch Ken slowly kill ANYTHING in his path. If it is a monster, Ken will engage and begin killing it, even if it doesn't aggro.

You. Can. Not. Be. Seen.

Prism Powders are disabled here, so you can't rely on those. Ken has HNM sight radius, in that if you can see him, he can see you and it's game over. He has the natural 90 degrees area of sight in front of him, but he turns and moves around a lot. The path is one set path, unlike the higher level ones that are different occassionally. There is nothing he will engage he can't kill. His HP will drop, and he CAN die, so keep his HP high. The only time that is really safe to cure him is while he's in battle.

You. Can. Not. Be. Seen.

He does a loop on the left-hand side of the entrance of Dangruf and goes through a few regions. Curative jobs are required, unless you have an escort of your own to kill EVERYTHING in the way ahead of time. When he engages a monster the game remember his position that he was on along along his path. When that monster dies, he will turn around, head to that spot in his path, THEN continute along his way.

You. Can. Not. Be. Seen.

You have 30 minutes to complete this quest. The reward is only 1,500 gil. Once again, I say for emphasis because this will be the sole reason 99.9% of people fail....

Any party members in zone when you talk to him and get capped at level 10 as well. However alliance members do not.

Also only one escort can be running in the zone at a time.

Quest Series

This is one of several escort quests. The full series includes:

You can go out and train all the mobs all by yourself then zone and re-zone and just follow him to the finish.. just make sure you get all of the mobs or else he'll fight the ones you left behind and take forever doing that and more will pop

I've done every quest known to Allakhazam exept for various job AF and weapons skills...and this one.

I can never finish it because I do so enjoy watching Ken die.

I have this quest for over 6 months now, I tried this for atleast 8 to 9 times and always failed, dang it.. this one should be solo but sounds like it's impossible to solo this darn quest without someone helping you.

I hate when you're out there, trying to earn your way through something under your own power, and someone comes and thwarts your efforts by randomly casting healing spells on you. It's even worse when you don't notice they're doing it. >.<

Also, I hate Ken. He can stick it where the sun don't shine.

If he doesn't want help, he can /blockaid and die for the nth time All By Himself. :P

Don't know if you're saying people curing you is annoying. ^^ But how would people know really? I'm a Paladin, and I do have a habit of helping out whenever I can if only to reduce people's downtime. I try not to draw hate either.

People are just trying to help, until SE can come up with a big flagging icon saying: "I don't want any frigging help get away from me." others will probably keep curing you.

If you weren't saying that... Uh, ignore me. ^^

No, I was being sarcastic, sorry :P

This quest is just frustrating.

Ken's like... one of those newbies in Qufim Island you toss a cure to when you notice them going down after warping into the outpost, end up saving their butts, and then they get mad you did it.

Yeah, that never made sense to me, i guess they are used to those other MMOs out there where your exp gets deducted if somebody 'interferes' with your fight. ><; even if they did get less exp less exp is better than -10% exp and a long walk

No, the ******* turns around once he fights and goes back to the original position. Also he turns around several times as part of the "story". It sucks, but what can ya do?

I can't get the quest activated, when I talk to Marin and Ken she just says, I hope you'll be OK... or something like that, then I go into wadi and nothing... It's not in my quest list either.

Me and two others from the LS went in and did this (I was just a sweeper) and we figured out Ken's pathway (through the bottom of the map) and cleared everything out before he go to the area. Also voking anything he was going for. First person doing the quest we had to repeat until we did it and then second person we completed it the first try. So take a couple sweepers with you to clear the areas and do not be seen by Ken (person with quest).

You most likely have another Escort quest active. Any of the three "Escort for Hire" quests count, as does 'The Big One' in Tavnazia.

I thought this quest was fun the first 15 times. But now I think the quest, like Ken, is just retarded. Nothing like saving his *** from linking 4 goblins and then having him turn around and say, "You! I told you not to follow me! That's it, I'm going home!"

Hi everyone!

This was fun to try as whm/blm! I mangaged to sneak around and heal him and nearly got him home twice. A war/nin buddy of mine tried it a few times and then the frutration set in, Smiley: tongue so here's the . . .

QUICK, EASY WAY

Grab a few folks that want this quest and have them sub or main a job with voke, charm, or similar hate catching ability. Then have everyone wait outside the wadi until you get the initial cut-scene. Then bring your friends in and talk to Ken. Have them play "Secret Service" by running along with Ken, taking turns voking anything that catches his attention. Now here's the best part:

There is no need for the quester to follow Ken. At the very first "T" intersection, take a right and hide behind that rock outcropping. Once your "Security Detail" gives you the all-clear, step back around the corner and speak with Marin.

I did this with four friends of mine with the total results being:

5 attempts, 5 completions, total elapsed time:25 min.

Hope someone finds this helpful! Smiley: boozing

I got this quest out of the way today. Took me 10 tries too. >.<

I had a lvl 42 WAR and a lvl 30 BLM from my LS help me out. Much thanks ot them for all there hard work in annihilating every monster along his path 10 times.

The trick is that when ever Ken goes to engage a mob, he remembers where he was and will run back there after the fight. This is how we lost 8 of 10 times.

If you don't know exactly where Ken was standing when he drew his sword, stay back and in hiding. After teh fight he'll charge back to wear he was and spot you. Only break this rule if you ABSOLUTLY have to cure him.

Also, Ken will fatigue the longer the mission goes on. He'll be able to solo those lizards like cake at the start of the quest, but when he appreaches the end he'll start missing more and taking lots of critical hits. I actually saw him die to a lizard in the final room, pretty sad when you consider he had over 50% health at the start of the battle.

This quest no longer requires CoP, I don't have CoP and was able to do it just fine.

Marin also gives out a completion certificate in addition to the 1500 gil. It's a key item and it's probably good for something.

Good luck.

I did this with three other LS members the other day. One guy went ahead killing the mobs then another guy stayed near ken to kill other mobs that spawn near him. Those two guys were in a diff PT. The third guy was in my PT to do the quest. It went by really fast since he never had to stop for fights.

When he gets to that big place before the dead end we stayed behind the first big rock and waited until hi went to that south path to loop around to the entrance. This was our 10th attempt I beleive. attempts 1-9 were without the guy watching over ken.

You automatically give her the completion certificate in Bastok when you get the 1500 gil, so it doesn't serve any purpose really.

She may as well have said "talk to me back home" or given you the 1500 there and then. The certificate's pointless.

I had it!!

Ken was about to get to the end and it disconnected *cries*

Edit:

I've got it done now. In accumulated total I spent barely over ten hours doing this quest. It's interestingly unique, but it stops being fun in any form after the first thirty minutes.

One thing I feel must be pointed out: When Ken draws his sword and advances toward an enemy, his "sight" stays where he was when he drew his sword. So if he starts a fight and then runs around a rock, you shouldn't run to where he drew his sword, as he'll "see" you as soon as the enemy dies.

Also, I had two macros that were immensely useful: The first I put on CTRL-1, which was "/ma Cure Ken". The second, "/target Ken", was the ALT-1 macro and made it so that you can see the little gold arrow above his head. This way you can see where he is at a given time, and if/where he's moving.

Even though I don't yet have the expansion pack, I helped my DRK friend complete this mission.

Myself and another member of the LS ran ahead and cleared out every mob we could find with fast ranged attacks. We made sure to clear out the first 2 areas before the DRK started the quest, and when Ken first started, there were no mobs for him to fight at all, so we headed on, killed mobs in areas 3 & 4, once again, no mobs.

This quest must be impossibly hard without help from other people, I recommend having 2-3 friends helping out.

you used to need expansion pack. On one of the updates they changed that. You no longer need CoP for this quest.

So...by "eyes of a hnm", that means he can see through invisible/Tonko: Ichi, right?

If he can't, then would NIN10/WHM05 be a practical idea to help keep a better eye on when he stops and checks or would the dent in the mp be horrible?
what a headache

Tried like 5 times today...not successful at all. Why he gotta be so stubborn for. I almost made it to the end but too much stuff respawned at the end & I don't have enough magic to keep him alive (with cap: Pld10/War5). Best works if you got like 2 or more people clearing a path he walks. Dunno if that 1500 gil is worth spying on this lil brat.

This Quest is pretty easy from what I have done. I have yet to get the quest and complete it in my Quest Logs, but I have done it about 4 or 5 times....easily done. Was farming out in Wadi when 2 of my LS members showed up doing this quest. The way we did it, 1 person activated the cutscene and had to hide from Ken, while the other 2 of us pted up and preformed mass genocide on every single monster that could and did spawn in his flight path...poor Ken must have been bored just running around, but we had fun and got lots of items to boot...long story short, get a group of ppl who are doing this quest together and you will cake walk through it...side note, whoever actives the cutscene upon entering Wadi, make sure you are solo as it will cap the WHOLE party ^^

Unless there's all kinds of hiding places like in back of a mountain and protecting him

Someone below stated that you can interact with him while he's engaged with a Mob. I guess just get at max casting range and then run out of sight before he kills the Mob.

Reposting what Whatley said. You can't get this quest if you have an escort quest currently (like the CN quest or eldieme necropolis). You must cancel them with some npc... someone will reply to this post and inform their wisdom, right?
Make it easier
# Oct 20 2004 at 5:20 PM Rating: Decent
On a side note, Ken does attack EVERYTHING he sees and gobs will aggro him (Ken is kinda weak). So if he attacks a crab in there and a gob attacks him, he will lose a significant amount of hp. I would suggest you go as a whm to heal him, but like it says try to stay out of his sight, try hiding behind rocks or something.

Something you can do to make it easier is to get a few of your friends to come down and kill the mobs in Ken's path before he gets to them, if Ken attacks one though, your friends won't be able to help him. Also if you have a few freinds coming, have one of your friends stay with Ken incase something spawns or aggros Ken while he is engaging something else.

Also only the person doing the quest can heal Ken.

I have drawn a path on the Wadi map, you can view it here.

The black line is the first half of his trip and the grey line is the second half.
The red dots are spots where he stops and usually says a few lines.
The ! next to a red dot is when he stops and looks behind him to make sure nobody is following him.

[edit] let me know if there is a mistake with my path (if i forgot a stop, drew the wrong path, etc.) so that i can fix it.
