Battle Notes

You must have completed Chains of Promathia Mission 2-5 Ancient Vows before you can receive this ENM. If you have access to Monarch Linn, speak to Morangeart in the Tavnazian Safehold. He will give you a key item: Monarch Beard. Make your way to Monarch Linn.

You will have a choice between four different ENMs and can only complete one battle every 5 Earth days.

Should you choose "Bugard in the Clouds", you will be capped at level 40 and fight a Bugard named Hotupuku. You have 15 minutes to defeat him. Three people are allowed into the battlefield.

I know you can only do the same ENM once during conquest update, but can you do a different one in same location?

Right. So the key to beating this boss is balancing each type of attack. Ranged, Melee, and Magic. Use too much of one, and the boss becomes immune to it, then uses some sort of two hour. Personally, i like bringing the best of each one. Ranger, Warrior, and Blackmage.

The boss is, of course, a bugard, so blink tanking is good for its slow, powerful attacks. Paralyze will not work on it (in any form. ninjutsu, magic, weapon skill). However, it can be slept, bind, gravity'd, etc. Now, throughout the battle, the bugard will use a variety of two hours. One of its most prominent being the SAM two hour. It will stop attacking, and simple attempt to use three weapon skills in a row. At this point, if you run away, it will simple say "Draeke is too far away". One of its three weapon skills will be used up, and you can keep running. It will not attack until it has attempted three of the same weapon skills. Bone Crunch, Bone Crunch, Bone Crunch. Heavy Bellow, Heavy Bellow, Heavy Bellow.

Usually, the bugard goes down smoothly until it begins to become immune to certain attacks. It can become immune to two out of three types of attacks. Melee, Ranged, and Magic. Never all three of course, because that is simply not fair. At the same time, it will begin to use more deadly two hours, such as Mighty Strikes or Hundred Fists. If you have balanced all your attacks equally, this should not happen until 10%-20% health. But you must finish it off quickly nonetheless. Depending on what jobs you have, have each one ready to deal the final blow somehow. If its immune to melee and ranged, Freeze it. Immune to Melee and Magic, Eagle Eye Shot it. Immune to Ranged and Magic (very rare this one), simply use a WS.

Overall, this ENM requires a great deal of planning beforehand. If you are lacking in a single department, you shall surely lose the ENM. Bring a combination of melee, magic, and ranged. This ENM was most likely specifically made to go against TP burns and Mana burns. Take a lesson from this, and good luck!

Attempted to do this enm with all-galka setup

War
Smn <me>
Blm

The war jumped in and voked. I started the astral flow with shiva and took massive hate. Then, The war and blm two hred afterwards. The pet tanked most of the battle until the war stole agro again. I used diamond dust again with shiva. At half hp, the mob begans to use powerful enstone effect of 80ish dmg. The pet suddenly died in seconds but i recasted shiva. it used invincible around 30% hp. Then, we later found out that this damned 2h can stop magic, even my astral flow. My 3rd diamond dust 0 dmg and the blm Freeze took 0 dmg. The bugard survived the manaburn and took out the war, blm, and then me w/o a problem. Before i died, my pet finally managed to hit the mob. This means that invincible last for a short time.

In conclusion, we came so close to win this fight. We did not know that invinicible blocks magic attacks. We could have won if the mob didn't resist freeze and diamond dust. Judging from other post, this mob seems to 2h every 3 mins.
we won but...

Well, we did this last night for the very first time and are just curious about one thing. Once it does its invincible crap, is that permanent cuz it invincibled around 60% health and never
un invincibled for the rest of the fight.. luckily our thief had weak ranged and the rdm chainspell nuked it to death. We won with less than 2 minutes left. Just curious if this is how this battle works. Oh also if you are going there, you may as well take a second and activate the quest "uninvited guests" from Justinius at j-6 in tav stronghold as they are both in the exact same area. Everyone loves kicking mammet ***!
OMG! not that bad

So a few friends in my LS decided to give this a try last night. We went with NIN, RNG, RDM (me) looked easy enough, we go in, and of course NIN had no throwing weapons, no biggie. Everything is looking fine at the start, and i accidentally blow my convert macro like 30 seconds into the fight. So i get a little nervous at that point. About 30% he pops off Invincible, RNG shadowbinds, i throw a gravity, and NIN kites it til the end. No big hiccups. We get the great katana, which is selling for about 1 mil on Sylph right now, and 2 aluminum ores (80-90k each). I think I will be looking at doing this one weekly in addition to the "Test your mite" 40 cap in Pso'Xja, which we normally pwn with a pty of 5. 5500 exp free per week and a chance at items like these is always worth the risk.

Just defeated this with rng, nin and rdm (me)

Very straight forward fight. Normal enfeebling and dot from nin and rng for most of the fight. Hotupuku used Hundred Fists when he was at 20% and our rng simply used Shadowbind on him. He and I finished it off with ranged and my tier II elementals.

Set record on Remora and got a Chanter's Staff, 2x Aluminum Ores and 2500k exp^^
I little more detailed info

OK.. done this ENM twice.. heres how it goes..

First we had was ninja, dragoon, and blackmage.

As soon as we engaged, ninja tank of course and we were hitting it hard and I WS'ed and hit penta for 450+dmg, then ninja Ws'ed and it now is at 30% life.. boom. invincible, and then we sleep it and blm rests. it wakes up fights ninja and hundred fists the blm tried binding it but my damn wyvern kept attacking >< and next thing ya know it hunts us down.

Second try.. same setup.

this time.. we decide to save WS til it uses invincible that way we can still do dmg to it.. well we were thinking it uses it when it gets to 30%.. WRONG! it does a 2hour after a SET amount of time! it used it earlier than it expected at 60% life and we were shocked ><. Well, we then used WS'es and learned.. ONLY NON PHYSICAL ws'es can penetrate INVINCIBLE, so anyone who says WS'es in general is wrong. ; ; long story short.

A strategy to beat this.. hit it as hard and fast as possible, Ws'es, that way it uses invincible or any 2hour when its closer to death making it easier for the mage to finish it off. well.. thats only based on a tank dd and mage setup with no ranger ; ;. so yah.. I'm pissed. I needa damn Kshama Ring no.2 ><

Tried this last night with THF/NIN, NIN/WAR and RDM/BLM.

It was late so not much battle plan or strategy discussed. We were fine until it used its invincible ability.

Not sure yet if this is standard, but when in this mode, standard melee attacks are always for 0's.

I didn't try a SATA on it while in this mode because I thought it would wear off... but it never did, for the last 3-5min of the ENM.

It IS vulnerable to all ranged attacks, spells and WS's during this time however. I hit it with Cyclone for 250+ and our shurikens and bolts landed with ease. Next time I'll try a regular Sneak Attack to see if that breaks his invincible too.

Seems like you need to 2hr DD and kill it fast before if goes into this mode, or have lots of nukers, ranged attack to compensate, build TP that way and then WS on it for the kill.
I want this Great Katana

Right now, I'm sitting at 44SAM/22WAR, but when I hit 50, I'm planning on doing this ENM until I get that katana. So, I have a few questions I hope you guys can answer:

1. How far along in CoP do I have to be in order to actually do this ENM?

2. Since there's a 3 member limit, would a party of SAM, THF, and RDM be able to pull this off?

3. How is the drop rate on the Koryukagemitsu?

I appreciate any info you guys could give me.

1. You need to be on or past Mission 2-5 "Ancient Vows". The one where you fight the mammets.

2. You don't have a full tank and if he immunizes himself to physical damage you get hosed. I recommend swapping THF for NIN.

3. No idea, but given the price I'd say not so hot.

Tryerd to DUO this last night
# Sep 30 2005 at 11:38 AM Rating: Excellent
Hay Just tryied this last night With Thf/nin and Nin/war (Go Merrin). Merrin actually tryed to Solo it 5 days earlyer and got close, but as soon as it used 100 Fists obviously Blink went down and he got ownd.

LAst night when we both did it, the fight strated out very smooth. Slow attacks, that didnt do too much damage (unless crit then about 150-200 on both of us) And he didnt have especially high evasion. I was still splitting up SA and TA as if i had assasin and was landing ever TA for about 100 damage and SA for about 200 damage. SA Viper bite would do about 350-400. HotuPuku's HP dropped very quickly, and he used he 2 hr ability at about 40-30% HP.

Now, in previous posts it suggests that He can use more than 1 2 hour abilitiy at once, But from last night, and what merrin had experienced before, we think this is not true. For US He used Mighty Strkes (it actually showed the animation for mighty strikes and said in the log) and he started attacking a lot faster. However, 5 days ago when he actually did use 100 fists merrin said he was significantly faster. We came to you conclusion that HotuPuku is a job changer.

Going from his 3 2-hr abilities Invincible, mighty strikes and 100 fists, I am gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say that he can be Mnk, Pld or War. I think for our battle he started out as pld, swithed to war at about 60% then used war 2 hr mighty strikes then switched to Mnk to take advantage of fast attack rate and all crits.

Any way, just a few quick facts about our battle last night to try and help.

He always always useses his TP attack 3 times in a row. If you have blink up you will be fine, it takes one shadow at a time.

Sleep Bolts did not work, so you can not just sleep him through his 2 hr. Bloody bolts and Acid Bolts Both worked wonderfully, bloodys activating 90% of the time for about 70 hp each and Acid makeing a noticeable increace melle to damage, so they are worth taking along.

We both had re-raise on, which both were used, and are definatly worth taking in, if he does get a hit in and interupst utsusemi you are skrewed, especially below 30% cos he attacks fast, and is fairly accurate.

When nin died, I mistook His change to mnk for his 2 hr, and put up PD which was silly, cos i looked back in logs and his first 4 attacks had missed, and hadent take 1 shadow down, so when he used mighty strikes about 10 seconds later, PD was down while he still had it, and i got ownd. Nin then took hate again, but MS + MNK attack rate and low HP = dead nin. Oh and Nins Debuffs seemed to stick ok, so thats worth trying. And during our fight and merrins last fight, he didnt make himself immune to anny form of attack.

We were Defeated when he had just under 10% HP left. And we made a few mistakes.I Fully belive this is very Duoable, and if your a good nin and depending on what 2 hr he used (imagin Invincible would be best to deal with) i think you could possibly solo it with right equip and food.

We are going to do this again, with a few tactical modifications in 5 days. Going to try and use Shadow stich at 300% TP with a SA on it to stick him during 2 HR.

Hopefully that will help any one trying to do this, as it has woefully little info on it.
if you have any specific questions of any thing i didnt cover here, feel free to /tell me if you are from Asura, or PM me.

Take care all

Attempted this but 2mins ago, we were doing awesome, until he used his Invincible, Hundred Fists combo. The rng was a lil slow on the Shadowbind (No fault of yours Mendi, it is 3am, and we're both nearly dead <3) Anyway, we all got wiped in a matter of seconds after that. We went with RNG/NIN, WAR/NIN, PLD/WAR, BST/WAR and SMN/WHM, if we had taked a BLM, we probably would have won. But hey, sods law..

Good luck on this :D Got some pretty nice drops.

And now I gotta go to bed, otherwise I wont get up for work in 5hrs >.>; Take care.

Its been a couple months since you post your comment but if you didn't find out. you can bring more than what's suggested. the Minimum is 3 people for this ENM, with 3 people you get full exp benefits, any more and your exp is reduced, only other negative effect is the fact you have more people lotting on items.
-.-

I can confirm that this thing can go immune to more than one kind of attack at any one time. Good going SE! Instead of allowing us to use skill to overcome challenges, you quite literally force us into using your preset group setups. I don't know any Black Mages, and if I did I would rather do the mission with my two best friends. But apparently that's not an option.
