Battle Notes

You must have completed Chains of Promathia Mission 2-5 Ancient Vows before you can receive this ENM. If you have access to Monarch Linn, speak to Morangeart in the Tavnazian Safehold. He will give you a key item: Monarch Beard. Make your way to Monarch Linn.

You will have a choice between four different ENMs and can only complete one battle every 5 Earth days.

Should you choose "Fire in the Sky", you will be capped at level 40 and fight a Cluster mob named Razon. You have 15 minutes to defeat him. Three people are allowed into the battlefield.

Strategies

A Red Mage using Chainspell and Fire II can solo this ENM.

People still think fire damage is a bad thing on bomb mobs? lol...

Anyway you can't win this with chainspell fire 2 because RDM doesn't get fire 2 until level 50, so water 2 is the way to go. If it 2-hour self-destructs on the first water 2 though, you need to switch to stone 2 or it will blow up on every water 2.

He always picks one element at the beginning of the fight, and that element will cause him to 2-hour self-destruct. If you avoid that element, then self-destruct will only be triggered by time and/or HP%, making the fight pretty easy.

I've heard that this can be soloed by a SMN using Ifrit. I myself tried this today after helping some friends with Riverne A01, and lost. My SMN soloing skills are kinda rusty, but oh well. Didn't cost me anything to try. I would like to try this again sometime and was wondering if anybody could give me some advice.

I've heard the strategy is simply to treat it like a Trial-Size fight. Get out Ifrit, Astral Flow, Inferno, Hi-ether+Yag Drink, repeat.

Thank you.

im no smn, so i wouldn't know but...
when i solo it on rdm, i use water II instead of fire, because it deals more dmg
probably because water II is my strongest spell at that lvl, or hes weak to water, i know not but i saw a vid of 3 SMNs trioing him, and they each used leviathan

if that helps at all

I did this without fail (2x SMN with Astral Flow), problem is the ****** drops.

Does drop improve if more clusters survives aka killing it prior the 2nd self-destruct?

Drops:
1. Cloud Evoker, Crossbowman's Ring
2. Thug Zamburak
3. Crossbowman's Ring
4. Crossbowman's Ring

I just recently got Diabolos and I know that Ruinous Omen is random on how much % it drains from the enemy but I wonder how this would affect the bombs behavior. What if by chance he took half of the bombs HP then after that you follow up with Inferno.

I think SE in their wisdom has changed this BC fight.... IE NERF stamp

I used to solo this as RDM/BLM but it was always iffy so I brought along a SAM friend for fun. our last two attempts since the update have failed, so for kicks we brought another RDM/BLM. All of us two houred, the SAM Skill chained Distortion and we nuked Water II like mad. Bomb went from standing still to blowing up three times and pushing us out of the arena in about 6 seconds.

I suspect that the bomb is triggered by taking massive damage in a short time. Our next attempt we will all two hour, except the SAM will SC first then we will MB on distortion. Hopefully that will work.

Kudos to SE. Making Santa Hats and Fireworkers an excellent use of the programmers' time instead of actually examining the real-game functionality of jobs such as DRG, RNG, and BST and waking up to why they aren't getting invites anymore. Glad to see my 12.95 a month is going to good use. :P

Ok I've duo'd this ENM doooozzens of times.

Here's the thing

When you start the battle Razorn gets a Random Element. If this element is casted on it, it will self destruct. With there only being 6 elements (Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, Ice, Lightning) there is only a 1/6 chance of it going boom. (No, Dark and Light will never make it go boom.)

Also by chance, 1/6 also I believe, the Self-Destructs can do damage. I never seems to do much damage to me, so i don't know what this "loads of damage is" lol.

But all in all, It's an Easy NM. Me(SMN) and WHM friend recently brought along a NIN that helped us kill Fire Drakes.

But in 6 runs we've gotten:
1 - Thugs Zamburak
2 - Crossbowmans Ring
3 - Ether Ring
4 - Woodsman Ring
5 - Woodsman Ring
6 - Woodsman Ring

As for people wanting a strategy, it's simple.

SMN Goes in, Summon Ifrit after WHM buffs up, then runs to NM and Astral Flow. (Doesn't matter how long Ifrit is out since you will waste all MP soon anyways)

Then you use your Yagudo Drink, and Inferno the bish. Also at the same time, the WHM should be casting Banishga II.

Use a Hi-Ether and run to other side of Arena and wait for ifrit do die. Resummon, don't sic, WHM starts casting Banishga II again while you Inferno.

That should of killed it, i've only ever needed to 2hr twice, and if not, WHM can cast a quick Banish II or Banishga.

Hope I helped, gluck

OK, I've heard rumors about this ENM, and they seem to line up with my experience. However, I haven't completely confirmed this info, so take this as you will.

Razon will Self Destruct 3 times (if he does not die first). If the third one goes off, you lose the ENM, because you are blasted out of the arena.

The first 2 self destructs can either do 0 damage or a very high amount of damage. The theory I've heard is that an element is chosen at random for the fight (I don't know if it's determined by day, moon phase, etc), and if you cast this element on him, he will explode for damage.

So if Ifrit is used, there is a 1 in 6 chance that fire is the chosen element, and therefore Razon will explode for damage.

If a RDM BLM combo goes, and the RDM Chainspells Water II and the BLM casts Fire II, there is a 2 in 6 (1 in 3) chance that the element chose is fire or water, and therefrore Razon will explode for damage.

So I have found that it is best to pick an element and stick with it, then hope it's not the one that makes him do damage. Hope this helps. ^^

Okay, so I just tried this for the first time with 2 smn/whms.

Having read the accounts of 1 smn being able to solo on firesday but not on another day (as a non-firesday run will leave it with just a tad bit of hp left after the final astral flow) I figured 2 summoners would be able to duo it easy (four astral flows for the win).

Our approach walking in was to stagger the astral flows 20 seconds or so apart so that there would always be one avatar with the most hate -- allowing for safer resummoning etc and keeping both from dying at the same time.

What we didn't know -- or what happened-- is that the cluster would immediately use a self-destruct after each and every bloodpact-- so since the third one didn't finish him off, he was able to use the third self-destruct and wipe us out of the enm.

So we're left trying to figure out how to do about 1-3% more damage to him. Inferno was doing about 657, melee hits from ifrit were hitting for about 3-4 dmg per hit (critical occasionally for 17). 657*3 = 1971, so the mob seems to have a little over 2000 hit points I'd say. We don't have to add very much damage to him, just a bit in order to do this on a non-firesday.

So we had a couple ideas.

  • Idea One:
...would be letting ifrit melee a bit before starting the astral flows to work down a bit more of his hitpoints, but he's not melee'ing for much and I've read that the explosions are time based as well as being tied to a "certain amount of his hitpoints being removed".

  • Idea One-b:
And just on the safe side, for the few seconds in between flows and ethers etc, the nin sub can possible use Katon ichi (fire damage ninjutsu) for a bit more damage as long as we revert to hyoton before inferno again.

  • Idea Two:
Having one summoner sub ninja for hyoton to lower his resistance to fire right before an inferno. with a 20 ninja sub, the effect probably won't last long, but it can be timed well if the ninja sub uses it right at the same time as the other summoner uses inferno (the ichi version takes 4 seconds to cast i believe, and the blood pact takes seven seconds or so to go off) ...

  • Idea Three:
The whm sub can also possibly use Dia at the start and a banish 1 somewhere along the line. We've read other folks claiming that a whm/blm can do some healthy damage with a banish / banishga with capped divine and mind, but again-- we are relying upon the skills of our subjobs and the stats aren't going to be that high.

  • Idea Four:
...would be to have one summoner hold off on the astral flows and try to use a plain old fire 2 right off the bat. Hopefully it wouldn't be enough damage to honk him off enough to trigger one of the early explosions, but would lower him enough that the final inferno could finish him.

  • Idea Five:
Try to time astral flows together to "share" an explosion. Slightly less safe as it would probably cause hate to switch back and forth between avatars and both to die at once (unless one summoner immediately released and resummoned to keep primary hate on one-- which would hopefully give the newer avatar time to regain enough hate while avatar #1 tanked and died off for the new avatar to regain hate from it's pitiful 3 damage hits to keep razon from coming for the summoners.)

  • Any thoughts? Does anyone know if fire 2 from ifrit would cause an explosion?

I've done this ENM numerous times, but in the past week i have been unable to do this ENM due to the fact that he will Self destruct almost instantly, than on the 3rd one he'll blow us outta the arena.. its me and my smn friend duoing w/ Ifrits...

has this NM changed at all?

This happened to us on our last run also. I think some of the ENM's got busted in one of the latest patches. We walked in, engaged, it self-destructed killing TWO of the clusters before I even got a spell off , then 5 seconds later it did the massive one that kicked us out of the arena. I think this ENM is broken along with some others.

I do the solo ENM in Mine Shaft as BST, and the past two weeks (have done 3 runs in that time) the puppet has never summoned a pet making it stupidly easy. The first time I just figured it was a glitch, but 3 times in a row? Something is not right, not that I'm complaining about that one too much since it's an easy free 2k exp, but I'd like to see Fire in the Sky fixed.

BTW, WHM's own on this. A PLD and I practically duoed it (3rd member was SMN and forgot key item). If I had brought a Yag Drink we would have won easily, but we whiped with it having 1% life left and I ran out of MP. I highly recommend having capped Divine skill, as much MND gear as possible, and eating a Goblin Mushpot (+10 MND). I end up having about +30 MND and my Banish spells destroy this thing. Banishga II practically outdamages (600+ damage) Ifrit's Inferno just by itself. PLD + WHM x2 can just rape this thing if they ever fix the stupid glitch that is currently happening with it blowing up right away. PLD invincibles to keep hate, then just spam Banish spells til it's dead.

I have experienced the same thing, as you can see below, but my BLM friend and I duoed it again without a problem. We never took damage and he only destructed twice.

We have a few current theories. Our first one is that the BLM opened with Fire II, and it went nuts from there. Every other time I have opened with Water II. So the next time he doesnt cast any fire spells and, behold, it didnt go psycho. Does that mean Fire spells cause it to go nuts? No. But it could be worth further testing.

Another theory I have is if you open with too much damage, he goes into psycho mode. I'm curious to see if people who experience this had started out with a very high damage spell/ability.

And of course, my third theory is that it is just random. I do not believe this is "broken" because We were able to win after we were totally destroyed. It is unlike SE to make such an easy ENM, so I think this is countered by a random chance of a garunteed loss.

I have done this ENM three times now. The first two attempts went beautifully. First was RDM BLM duo. I Chainspell Water II for about 240 damage each and he used Fire II for around 400 damage. It died quickly and literally dealt us 0 damage. Note: There was no Ifrit involved!

Attempt two was very similar only it was a RDM RDM duo. Both of us Chain nuked with Water II. Again, it dealt us 0 damage.

Attempt three was another RDM BlM duo. We do the exact same strategy, only this time self destruct did damage... A LOT of damage. The first one was for around 400 damage, then immedietly after he did it again for another 400 damage, then immedietly after he did it again for 2500 damage.

I am not exaggerating, there was no delay between self destructs. I only got off about 4 Water IIs with chainspell active, thats about 10 seconds.

So my question is, can this guy be randomly "pre programed" to win? The difference between this run and my first two was Light and Day. There is NO way that was the same mob.

    Oddity

Don't solo this other than firesday
    # Feb 23 2006 at 7:03 PM Rating: Decent
I attempted to solo razon as 40 smn on windsday, I dealt him with 3 Infernos for 650-675. However, the NM survived all three hits with almost no hp left (and nearly impossible to kill afterwards), and it may self-destruct right after the 3rd Inferno.

    My advice
-Use shield for protection if using one knife or wand. Don't get too close to self-destruct. Your moogle won't protect you.
-Use any magic you have available whether you have subbed whm, nin, rdm, or blm (Use whatever you got. You came all the way to fight the boss)
    -Fight on fireday
-Pray that he won't use third self-destruct. If you act quick enough, you will have enough time to hit 3 Infernos before the final one.

Note: I made two attempts. The first came the final destruct after 3rd Inferno. I screwed the second run but I came alot closer than the first attempt. I wouldnt recommend meleeing because that will only speed up Razor's tp.

    0 dmg??

I just tried this a little while ago and unfortunately it was on Firesday and during 0% New Moon. Was pretty late so we just went ahead anyway, namely since reading about people saying it does 0 dmg on the first 2 self destructs. I'm not sure if people are either lying or if it was because of the day, but the first 2 DID do damage. And quite a damn high amount too. 578dmg from the first self-destruct, and 609 from the second. We were pretty much dead after that. The WHM avoided the first self-destruct, so survived the second and ran back to the warp. Guess doesn't like to die, even if no exp loss. Anyway, anyone know exactly what's going on with the ENM? Is it because it was Firesday? Or because it was New Moon? A combination of the 2? Or because people are lying about the 0 damage self-destructs?

Oh and we went in as NIN/WAR, NIN/BLM (me), and WHM/BLM. Was pretty amazed at how much damage the cluster was taking from my Ni spells. T > low IT mobs take 100-120 normally (in 40 capped areas), the cluster was taking 200-220 dmg from each Ni spell. WHM's Banish II did about 250dmg, and his divine magic skills are very low. All the regular melee hits we landed though only did like 6-10.

The 0 dmg is refered by people using ifrit to solo it. He apparently will absorb fire damage, so self-destruct won't hurt ifrit. Just make sure you're out of range.

As described below you'd treat this ENM just like you would the lvl 20 avatar fights.

Astral flow, sic ifrit on the NM. Run as far as you can before you're out of range of using Inferno. Use it, have ifrit die, rinse repeat. (Note i haven't done this battle, but I have done the lvl 20 avatar fights.)

NOTE: **** You must have reached Chains of Promathia mission 2-5 or above to have access to Monarch Linn. ****

Walkthrough on how to activate and reach the battle.

    1. Talk to Morangeart in the Tavnazian Safehold (G-10 on the main floor).

    2. If you have sufficient access rights, Morangeart will give you the key item "Monarch Beard".

    3. Travel through either 'Riverne - Site #A01' or 'Riverne - Site #B01' normally to Monarch Linn. If you have access to 'Riverne - Site #B01' it can be easier to go through this way as only one Giant Scale is required to get through to the Battlefield via this route.

    4. Once at Monarch Linn, you will be able to choose one of the ENM battles at the battlefield. This is the same location as the CoP mission battle. Note that you can complete both an ENM and the mission battle while at Monarch Linn, if you wish.

Battle Name: Fire in the Sky
    Area: Monarch Linn (Riverne)
    Restriction: Lv40 / 15min / 3ppl
    Exp: 2500

*Note that there are four ENMs in this battlefield; you can enter a specific battlefield for ENMs once every 5 Earth days, so is it possible to complete only one of the four ENMs in Monarch Linn once every 5 days.

Doubtebly. They can be duo'd if you do it right or trio'd easier, as long as there's always one avatar out with hate.

The problem with soloing these as SMN is that they run at the speed of Flee (as mentioned) and once your avatar is gone you don't have much time to resummmon before it starts hacking away at you, possibliy 100HP at a time.

just a heads up. if you don't have a summoner to do this battle. Go in with a tank, Paladin prefered, but any melee with a war sub will do fine. and two white mages with capped divine skill skill for level 40(123 skill). a red mage or black mage sub is recomened for magic attack up.

strategy is simple. have the tank unload with everything possable to keep hate plastered on them for the next 30 seconds.

the white mages just unload with every banish nuke they have. this mobs is very weak to banish spells. Banishga II will do around 500 damage to this mob. I had a regular banish spell do 93 damage to this mob as well. in short, two white mages should be able to kill this mob in 30-45 seconds. unless you have very bad luck this should be kill the mobs before the third explosion.

btw Razon's first 2 self-destructs do 0 dmg. These are just warnings. The after the third self-destruct you lose. I found this out myself.
"The blast wave from Razon's Self-Destruct knocks you out of the battlefield!"
    "The Razon uses Self-Destruct."

    Setup was 38smn/whm(me), 40nin/war, 40blm/rdm
I dont think the blm had to cure even once.
On iceday with barfira up its self-destruct did 0 dmg to me. blm finished it off with a 386 dmg fire II so this thing is uber weak to fire. He does hit mages hard though. He hit me twice for 100 dmg. Dropped ether ring so we went away pretty happy cuz its the first time we did it ^^.
