Summary

A strange voice from within Carbuncle's Ruby is asking you to gather the seven colors of light...

Walkthrough

Go out and fight leeches, they will drop a Carbuncle's Ruby, which is a very rare drop. Once you have the stone item, go to Windurst Walls and click on the door in the House of the Hero to talk to Ajido-Marujido. You will be told to experience all 7 weather elements. To do this, visit various zones until you have seen each type of weather pattern in the world (you will be shown a cutscene of the stone changing color). NOTE: You cannot acquire weather effects in towns or dungeons, nor can you obtain them from a Scholar casting the weather effect on you.

  • Red - heat - Valkurm, Rolanberry, Altepa, Yhoator Jungle, Meriphatud Mountains.
  • Orange - clear skies - most places
  • Yellow - sand - Valkurm, Tahrongi, Konschtat.
  • Green - wind - Tahrongi, Mhaura, La Theine.
  • Indigo - ice - Xarcabard, Beaucedine etc.
  • Blue - rain - La Theine, Pashhow, Rolanberry, Buburimu, Yhoator Jungle, boat rides
  • Violet - thunder - Konschtat, Jugner, boat rides

You will know you got the pattern by zoning and seeing a cut scene. If you don't get a cut scene, you didn't get the pattern. You don't have to be near the weather, just in the same zone as it.

Once you have all 7 patterns, go to La Thiene Plateau and find the stone circle at G-6. Trade the stone to ??? and you will get flagged to be able to change jobs to Summoner.

So I opened the quest for this a while ago, and forgot to finish getting all the colors.
Is there a way to check the colors, or do i just throw it out and start again ?
Didn't take very long...

Of course, I had lotted for Carbuncle's Ruby at a low level when I was partying with some higher level LS mates, so I had it for a while before I was actually able to use it. Just started the actual quest the other day. Husband was checking on weather patterns in one section, LS mate checking in another, me checking in a third. We had just about given up for today and started leveling our mains in Yuhtunga Jungle when my husband starts yelling at me to zone. Heat wave! Then we booked it to the Highlands after an LS mate leveled and everyone logged for the night to get thunder. Well, got nifty little cut scene then it was off to the Plateau. Finally unlocked summoner!

Oh, and the rainbow the next game day over the crag if it's clear is TRUE. I have screenshots!

I've been extremely lucky with this quest. When I did it with my main character a few years ago a friend was already farming the leeches waiting for me to get to Bubu. Just as I zoned he got it and told me to lot. He had only been at the beach for five minutes. I have also helped other friends and gotten it for additional characters I play. The drop rate varies drastically, but it seems I'm a lucky charm. As with the magicked skull, it's pretty much a given, if I'm in your party, you're gonna get it quick (and I'm usually WHM/BLM - no THF).

As far as that goes, I just did this again for another of my characters. I was lvling Calibos' DRG27/RDM13 solo when I decided to do Fields of Valor in Bubu and see if I could get him his Ruby. 14 leeches later (solo without a THF) I got the Ruby.

Logout as Zoning?

While soloing in Buburimu, I disconnected in a rainstorm. When I logged back in, I got the "Blue" cut scene. Not sure whether this was just a fluke or not, but has anyone else ever tried logging in and out as a way to trigger the cut scenes as opposed to zoning back and forth?

I spent about 4 hours one day will a lv. 75 blm and go nothing after killing a lot of leeches in the penninsula, next day spent another 4 hours in the dunes with a lv. 30 drg once agin got nothing. Gave up on it for a bit until a linkmate took me to ordell's caves. went into a room filled with leeches killed all of them, waited for respawn, killed them again. On the third respawn got my ruby. Gathering all the lights took about 45 minutes of teles and warps, but still waiting on fire. }:

This quest sucks so hard. After getting the ruby I had to wait a week just to get help for the indigo and red colors. Now that I have all but red I am camping on the border of the deserts waiting for a random heat storm. All I can say is Summoner better be worth this pain and aggrevation...

Help....
# Jan 20 2009 at 10:42 AM Rating: Decent
Had the ruby for about a week now, went to House of Hero, couldnt trigger anything, just keep getting message: The door is firmly shut.

Just wondering, is there a quest that could possibly be blocking the SMN flag quest?

I've got 4 quest currently active in windy, but the only one in windy walls is the "blast from the past" quest (burnite shell). Is that one possibly the one and only one thats causing it not to trigger?

***NVM, got it, turns out it was that quest that was blocking the flag...

So... I was just waiting for the Boggys to spawn to get my 6th item for access to whitegate.... killing leeches in Buburimu... killing time...

3rd leech. Got the drop. I didn't even WANT Summoner! lol. But I tried it out, it's pretty nifty! lol. Oh, I was 55war/27nin by the way.
I will curse this quest to my grave!

Okay, the drop rate for the Ruby either has to be improved, or Rubies should just start falling out of the sky. I went through 6 hours of solo farming (no THF sub, probably would've helped) and got nothing, just several stacks of blood. One day, I'm farming Leeches again for about 2 hours until a 75RDM/THF helps me out. It takes us yet ANOTHER hour until the damn thing drops. I won't even get started on the weather collecting part *coughcampedaltepadesertfor2dayswaitingforaheatwavecough*

SE, why? Why must such a bad-@$$ job be so, so so SO out of reach because of one little talking gem?

Oh well, it's worth it. Summoner definitely is one of the most fun jobs in FFXI, and I wish the best of luck to all people trying to get this job (except not super luck. Suffer like the rest of us, fools! >:O)
Carbuncle's Ruby Restart
# Nov 04 2008 at 11:40 AM Rating: Decent
I accidentally threw out my carbuncle ruby before I was done collecting weather. Does anyone know how I go about restarting quest? I got a new ruby and House of the Hero just replays "you hear Carbuncle's voice in your head" part.

Please help me out.

Thanks

Holy geeze I can't get this ruby to drop. I've spent 3 days at least 3-4 hrs a each day trying to get this to drop. I went a blue/white mage and then as white/black mage to Buburimu Peninsula. Tried the dunes one night for a few hrs. Sucks that I haven't got a melee job higher leveled. I've killed 100 of these leeches and no ruby, grrr!!!

I got my ruby and one weather effect, decided to drop it, got a new ruby about a year later and couldn't get any weather effects. I decided to check the ??? in La Theine plateau and got the final cs. not really easier though cause you have to farm a new gem.
WotG

So you can't get weather in the past WotG areas, I zoned into earth and no CS.

Ok, so I tried farming leeches solo to get the ruby in valk as 31mnk/15thf for about 30min to an hour and got nothing, so I took the boat to Mhaura, did the dahlmel meat quest, then went to the leeches in bubu. There was a 75 drg/25thf farming there already. I asked if she was farming blood or for the ruby and she said blood. So I asked if I could join her for the ruby, and told her she could keep anything else that dropped. She agreed and I got the drop after 3 kills.

Got lightning in Konschtat on the way to altepa from windy,Got wind in tahrongi on Windsday on the way to altepa, Got fire weather from altepa while doing supply quest, took OP tele back to windy, OP tele to dunes, where I got sunny weather (orange), go water weather in La Theine on the way to the impossible-to-spell-correctly Glacier, got ice weather from the glacier on iceday, and waiting on earth weather between dunes and highlands now. Got all the weather but earth in under 3.5 hours, and all but earth were received the first time I walked into the area; I never had to wait and repeatedly change areas.

HINT: Weather type is more common in an area on the day corresponding to its element. I.E., earth weather (sandstorm) is more common on Earthsday, windy weather is more common on windsday, etc

Edit: finished this post and looked up and there was earth weather in Konschtat, so I re-loaded the highlands and got earth weather. About 10 minutes of waiting for earth weather. I'm pretty happy with the speed of this :) maybe I'm just lucky.

Unfortunately I have been unable to figure out the order of the days since my weather finding has only taken about 3 days thus far, but here it is so far: Windsday, Iceday, Lightningsday...

Luck to you all :) Hope my post helps

So, I took a 2 year break from FFXI and now I am working on finishing all my adv jobs quests. I have my ruby (iirc it took me 3 days to get it.) and I *think* I talked to the taru in Windy. I have the quest I can hear a rainbow in my log, but I have not gotten a single CS. I spent all last night trying to get it. So my question is, is there a way to reset the quest so I can talk to the taru again?

Edit: When I go back to the house of the hero I can't go inside, it just gives me the carbie ruby message again.

Finally nailed this quest today. And, as it's pretty much the lap of honour, here's my story:

- Four hours of leech-farming in Buburimu Peninsula.
- Thunder in Jugner Forest
- Wind in La Theine Plateau
- Water in Pashhow Marshlands
- Earth in Tahrongi Canyon
- Clear skies in ... I think it was East Sarutabaruta...
- Ice in Beaucedine Glacier, after one false start when I ran the wrong way in Raungemont Pass; started again and took some Goblin aggro just as I went in that stupid door but survived barely and managed the rest with no trouble.
- Five days hanging around Rabao waiting for heat weather before noticing that Cape Terrigan was expecting hot spells in the near future.
- Tele-Holla, chocobo to the Secret Beach, run through Gustav Tunnel (that place is full of crawling nasty and I'm so glad Sneak and Invis didn't wear at any point), camped on Cape Terrigan zone line for about an hour.
- Heat weather at Cape Terrigan, FINALLY!
- Tele-Holla again, trade ruby, cutscene, unlocked!

...Then, after all that, I died at the feet and floppy ears of a Savannah Rarab just after reaching level 2. What a comedown. *g*
