Summary

Ratihb wants you to check on his son Wasuhd, who has gone in search of his older brother.

Walkthrough

The Corsair quest begins in Aht Urhgan Whitegate. In the Shararat Teahouse, speak with Ratihb (J-12) and then after his series of cutscenes, go and speak with city Guard named Mafwahb (L-9).

Take the boat to Nashmau located at Port Ephramad on the north side of Aht Urhgan Whitegate.

This is where it gets nasty if you don't take any precautions. For one, travel through the Caederva Mire during morning and afternoon because during daylight the Chigoes (basically tiny little insects) are the only things that seem to aggro. These mobs are unmarked until they aggro. At night, the undead come out but also the Lamia (snakepeople), which have truesight. In Nashmau, it may be wise to set your homepoint there as people seem to have a tendancy to die frequently on the way to the Reef.

To get to the Arrapago Reef, you can exit Nashmau through the northgate and wind your way up to the cave at I-6.

    • Edit:

You need a Lamia Fang Key to get to the ??? in Arrapago Reef.

Before zoning into Arrapago Reef get the Lamia Fang Key by carefully getting on the ledge at I-7 in Caederva Mire; you can walk right up above it and simply fall onto it. There are some Fetid Flesh-type creatures which need to be careful when walking around. Also, walking through the muck may result in Gravity-type effect on your character.

If you travel at night, there will be one Lamia mob and two skeletons by the Arrapago Reef zone. Inside the Reef, it is unadvisable to Escape, as Escape will plop you right into aggro right inside these mobs.

Inside the reef, just follow the right wall until you come out into the open where you will find your first wrecked vessel. On the first boat, there will be a ??? which is where you can obtain your key item puppet for the PUP job quest. Through the boat (which will have undead and Lamia aboard), you again follow the right wall and up the ramp to the first gate. This is where you use the Lamia Fang Key. Past the first gate, take first left and follow until you come to the next gate.

There, on another boat, you will find the ??? for COR. This series of cutscenes are rather long. The NPC in the cutscene there will ask you to go to Talcaa Cove.

Simply return to Nashmau, exit through the west gate into the Caedarva Mire again. This time, work your way up to (E-9) to get to Talcca Cove. You will have to weave through the ruins. Imps frequent the area so be very careful as they have Truesight.

Inside Talacca Cove, simple proceed along the left wall. On a pile of rocks, you will soon find the ???. There, you will get the key item "Forgotten Hexgun". There is nothing inside the Cove that will attacks so no worries about Sneak or Invisible.

Proceed west again, find the Rock Slab and get the final cutscene. It is wise to not have bought the Corsair Die from a vendor before this because you will have to throw it away and redo the cutscene again.

Quest Series

This is part of the job flag quest series. Other quests of the series include:

done and done. lv. 30 Rdm/blm fuc**** easy. Sneak and invis. follow the directions above.
Success
# Feb 22 2009 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
I did this just now as a 65WHM/17BLM. Just kept sneak/invis up the whole time and tried not to get spotted. It was kind of scary, but it's easy if you have a bit of patience. Although I think I got lucky because there was a party fighting imps when I was passing through, so I didn't have to deal with those.

Not Hard

On a scale of 1-10 this quest is 3, all you have to do is keep Sneak/Invis up and your good. Avoid Imps. Use FFXI-Atlas if you don't have a map, it tells you exactly where the key is too. http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/maps/caedarva-mire/general/
Not Hard
# Jan 16 2009 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
not hard.. if you are lvl 75 or have an army protecting you. sneak and invisible can wear of rather quickly at random, leaving you to randomly die in one shot, of ANYTHING, including 100% invisible enemies.
BLU, PUP, and COR All-In-One

Here is a way to get all three of the new jobs in about 5 hours…I hope this helps.
1. Starting in Bastok, go talk to Shamarhaan who is next to the Bastok Markets fountain with with a puppet. He is the start for PUP quest. (Also while you are in Bastok, you shold get the 3 items you need for BLU: Valkurm Sunsand, Dangruf stone, and Siren's Tear.
2. Valcrum Sunsand is obtained from the ??? in the shipwrecked boat in Valcrum Dunes during a sandstorm.
3. The Dangruf Stone is obtained by talking to Horatius in Bastok Market, Trader's house (I-9). He wants you to bring him the rare stone that you can find in Wadi. You can find it only on sunny days. Go to Wadi (I/J-5) and target ??? to get the Dangruf stone.
4. The Siren’s Tear is part of a quest from Wahid in front of the auction house in Bastok Mines. Before you go outside strip of all weapons, shield and ammo. Also, make sure you still have a slot available in your inventory. Go in to North Gustaberg and follow the road to the creek. Look for a little area that dips down to the water at J-9 on you map. Use the TAB key to auto target until you target something that says ???. Once targeted hit enter. (Note: You MUST have nothing in your hands to pick this up)
5. After you get those items, go to Mhaura. (The Konshushu outpost supply run can be quite useful now.) Then head to Aht Urhgan Whitegate. As soon as you enter the city, head east then go to the second floor to J-10 and find Waoud. He is the start for BLU. When he asks the questions, answer all of them the 3rd choice. Then you are going to have to wait 1 game day (1 real life hour) until he asks you for one of the 3 treasures: Valkurm Sunsand, Dangruf Stone, and Siren's Tear. (*Instead of waiting and doing nothing for 1 hour. I found it more productive to finish the other 2 jobs and do this when I come back.)
6. Then go to J-12 to Ratihb (Hume) on the second floor and talk to him twice. You are going to get 2 quests but this will start COR.
7. Then go to K-9 and talk to a Taru named Iruki-Waraki still on the second floor. This is for PUP.
8. Then go to L-9 and talk to Mafwahb. (Hume) This is the second cut-scene for COR.
9. Then go to back upstairs to a Galka named Ghatsad. He is located in the Automation Workshop in the back at I-7. This is the second cut scene for PUP.
10. Then take the ship from the port outside of the Automation Workshop to Nashau (I-6).
11. Now you can do this several ways, you can go 1st level and not worry about dying. You can also go as 75th but I think things still aggro at that level as well. Sneak and invis is important for this. So you can deal with this how you want. (But setting your home point there is very helpful.)
12. Head out from the north exit to Caederva Mire. Try and find your way to I-7 and look for the ??? next to a pool of water. When you click on the ???, you will get the Lamia Fang Key. This opens the gate that will get you the cutscenes and the key items for PUP and COR. Try not to fall into the pool, you get a “gravity” effect.
13. Head to the cave entrance at I-6. That will lead you to Arrapago Reef. Past the first gate, you follow the left wall until you come to the next gate. There, on another boat, you will find the ??? for COR. This series of cutscenes are rather long. The NPC in the cutscene there will ask you to go to Talcaa Cove.
14. Head back to Nashmu and this time take the west exit. Head to E-10 through a graveyard and take the north cave (second cave leads to the training grounds) Go to the back of the zone (no mobs) and examine a ??? for a CS and to get the forgotten hexagun. Head to the west to the rock slab and examine it for another cool CS and to get your corsairs dice which allows you to become a Corsair.
15. Return to the Automaton Shop in Aht Urgan Whitegate and talk to Ghatsan again and wait 1 game day. (*Again, while I was waiting, I finished BLU.) Return the next day to recive your new and working Auto... Now take the Auto back to Iruki-Waraki and go through the Cut sceen and you will then be flagged a Puppetmaster.
16. He'll then ask for one of the 3 items above. when you trade it to him, he'll say he really meant for it for someone else and that you need to bring it to them in Adeewa Subterenne underneath Bhaflau Thickets. To get here, head west through Whitegate and zone to the common area and head north out the gate to Bhaflau Thickets. Then go north toward the lighthouse marked on the map. There’s a cave at the small jutting part of the map. Enter the cave and you’re in the Adeewa Subterenne.
17. When you enter, follow the path until you get to the first room. You may want to sneak and invis here because the insects will aggro you. Stay close to the right hand wall. As soon as you enter the second room, follow the left wall and head down the ramp there. Once you are in the pool, you will get a cutscene. Answer “yes”. You will be teleported back to Whitegate and get the flag for BLU. (After you are back, you can finish up PUP)

First off the guy who wrote this is a ******! I die because he isn't thorough. I-7 of the mire is where you get the key. Not as stated so vaguely! While in the reef area, Go past the first ship into the tunnel use the key on the only door there. The key breaks!! Go through the first curve in the tunnel I believe and through the gate. Now I'm not sure if it is the right way but i think it is. I would know 100% if he told us about the Soulflyer that agrros to everything I think and truesight. That's as far as I got! Not recommended to do solo. I have died 4 times already on stupid stuff.

I read what this website say and I follow it then I find out that ALL Lamia (snake people) are NOT true sight plus ALL Chigoes are NOT true sight too.

I did cor, blu and pup all on 1 day as whm/blm lvl 47. All I have to do is cast sneak and inv. then I run pass them since they are in the way and no aggro.

Just got this today, Deodorize is something not needed at all on this. If it was I would've been smoked countless times. Sneak/Invis is all that is needed, I am a 33 Whm so Re-raise is something you'll want to have when Sneak or Invis wears at the wrong time. I got aggro from a Chigoe when I was recasting Invis, and got smoked in 4 hits from it. But whenever Sneak/Invis was up I didn't get aggro from them, but then again I didn't try running throught their model to try and test their resolve in killing me.

Also the swamp/pit where you get the Lamia Fang Key will cast Gravity on you if you try running through it instead of just getting out of it as soon as possible. Also the Fetid type monsters or whatever they are Nu-something won't aggro when you have Sneak/Invis up and besides they are Sleeping anyways, they have those funny little Zzz's coming from them. Also the Lamba's won't aggro when Sneak/Invis is up as I ran through their models when going to the Reef, and didn't get any aggro.

Also for anyone that does not have the Runic Portal from this area should get it while they are getting Cor/Pup. Good Luck.

Edit: Also I did this with no maps whatsoever, I just kept using <pos> through /say while using this guide to work my way around the 3 zone I had to go through to get Corsair. So in otherwords this job is not that hard to get at all, just takes a little running around.

Deodorize is only used for erasing hate if you get aggro and run and get far enough away to cast it. ^^
Easy enough

I just did this quest with a level 1 job. Kept sneak and Invis up and everything went pretty well. Got aggro from imps a few times, but with my home point close by it was no worries. I suggest getting the puppet item after you get the corsair item because the spot on the boat with the puppet item is in a real bad spot since you have to drop invis.
Easy!
# Jun 18 2007 at 6:30 PM Rating: Decent
This Quest was sooo easy! took me a couple days though because i Used the fan key before I talked to the guard there so meh...

went as 70RDM/35BLM and never got even close to die, got some Chigoe aggro, but nothing that a fast sleepga couldn't solve.

Thanks for the post it was very helpful!
We will see...

I am just heading to Whitegate to start this quest now. We will see how it goes and I will post my experiences. I am a LV52 whm at the moment.

UPDATE: Between the guide above and the lengthy and very helpful post below I was able to complete this in about 1 hour. (I had to ride the boat to Al Zahbi though.) I NEVER used deodorize. Sneak/Invis is all that's required. I did have to wait a couple times for the Imps to turn away. And the tunnels (I rest mid way through them) in Cardeva Mire are good safe spots. The map on FFXI-atlas were so clear it would have been a joke if I got lost.

Well I am off to roll some dice.

Later. :D

I actually went through the trouble of affirming this myself (I got sick of levelling rdm...) And affirmed that, like all other advanced jobs, you need to be level 30 before you can do this quest. So...someone fix it.
All right!

I just finished this quest and it was a Piece of cake! I soloed it as a 53nin/26thf (for flee in case I needed it) I only used 9 silent oils/ deodorizers to get though the whole thing and agroed once (Imps suck!) I first went and got the key and when I went though the swamp it gave me Haste (sweets)! I went to head to the zone and got agroed by the Imp; died; home pointed in Nashmau (best advice ever for this quest is to set home point there) Set off to the exit to the reef without any problems. Went though the reef with no problems at night (no agro heh heh heh) used the key waved to the Phasma went to the boat got the cutscene then 2houred on the Phasma to homepoint. I got lost going though the west part of the mire but thanks to www.ffxi-atlas.com/ this site I was able to find my way around and get to my destination. This post from Gennji helped too ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?fquest=711;page=1;howmany=50#1167156191157679486 Best of luck to all you future corsairs!

Ok.. anyone who follows along with this walktrough.. you see , you are not warned of what NOT to do, until after they explain what to do..

let me help. try to remeber these things before u do any parts of the quest

Get any food you like ready... you should be whm if soloing, so grab about 4 Juices to regen MP if u have nothing that will do it. Also any gear that is MP+ , Defensive and Attack power mean nothing on this quest.
and MAPS .. if you do not have a map for Nashmau/Caederva Mire/Arrapago Reef/Talacca Cove .. buy them/quest them OR look at the maps posted here, or on : http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/ ( never needed to buy a map with this site's help)

Nashmau : After you get here, set home-point.. unless you are lvl 70+ or WHM with very-long-lasting invis/sneak/deodorize .. you WILL die. Also there is a Cor dice Dealer here, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING until you have the job unlocked. This may mess up your c/s, and you may have to drop any COR dice you bought. Take the furthest north exit to Caederva Mire.

Caederva Mire : There are 3 sections of this you need to go through. The mob " Chigoes " , you will NOT be able to target them, you will see them randomly jumping around. They Will attack you, if you lose invis/sneak/deodorize(low lvls only so far I can tell) for ANY amount of time. You may luck out and not be near any when your sneak wears... but that is rare. SAFE areas are the tunnels that connect each section, I also found the path to the ??? Key is safe from all aggro.
Now that you have ??? Key, you have to walk through the tar pit to get out. the Tar will either Slow you down or grant you flee. IF you are slowed... go back onto path and wait for it to go, becuase your SNEAK/invis might wear off before u get to far... then death.

REMEBER TO GET KEY Before Going to the Reef.

ok lets check... Got Lamia Fang Key? Still Alive? Good! let's head to Arrapago Reef.

Arrapago Reef: ok once you zone, Rest to FULL MP. No little jumpy killers here, but everything will kill you if they see you. Go past the boat with the Puppeter quest item. When you get to the room with the GATE you need to TRADE the key to it. Make sure the Phasma ghost is not near you when you drop invis to open door.
You can also REST your MP right on the other side of door, the Undead keep thier distance from it. Take the first left path after the door, there is another gate, but you can open it without any key. The boat in front of you has the ??? Item you need to start c/s (cut scence). There is alot of aggro on these ships :( and you have to kill invis. to touch ???
when you walk up to the opening of the ship, F8 or target until you see the ??? in front of u, stay as far back as you can to touch it, or watch closly the mobs, so you do not get aggro, getting this close and dieing is not fun :) Dieing after you get c/s is ok... but not recommended :P
You will be told to go to Talacca Cove now. DO not take the long way through the Reef. Go back to Nashmau.

Nashmau : (Still do NOT buy COR dice, ur not done) Head back to hear you zoned
Caederva Mire heading north, there is a zone that goes LEFT, take that path.

Caederva Mire : YEP, u guessed it! Sneak/Invis/Deodorize :) Much shorter walk. But there is a small maze...This should not take so long that u lose ur sneak and stuff, so if see it wearing.. stop in the thin path right before the maze, make sure nothing is around u, (no little jumpers here that I saw)
if you Go North, then west, then north, you should be out.

Talacca Cove : YAY No aggro here :O Hug the left wall and start running. after a min or so, you will be cutting west down a path, still huggin the left wall. But press your TAB Key or any NPC targeting button, and u will see ??? on top of a rock. C/S~~
you will get Key Item: Forgotten Hexagun
now follow down that path.
Then just touch the Rock Slab wall. C/S~~~ COR UNlocked~~ .. btw what a cool cutscene huh?
Obtained: Corsair Die

I hope this helps, please reply with any comments or addtions

note: i know some of u are lucky and do not die witout casting Deodorize, so please use your own judgement there...

I still have to find the girl who cheated the guy but i still did Cor after that cs.If u cant get to Arrapago reef then ur SOL but i did it.

u dont need to find her to do the cos quest she is infact another quest altogether and the way to find her is by talking to diff npc in the area they will give you clues or even a cs then after a cs you have to go talk to more npc till you get another cs i think thats it or theres another cs after that then when thats all done you have to follow her out in one of the big area's sorry even though i did this quest it has been so long i forgot names of npc and the area you need to go after the cs.But hope this can give you some help.

Lamias don't seem to be true sight. I was helping my friend get corsair and puppet. I was whm60/blm20 and he was drk1 (no clue what he subbed). I did a song and dance infront of 3 lamias - Literally went up to them and stood at their face..What I personally think it is..as long as you don't touch them you are okay..
