Summary

Walkthrough

Dietmund is at G-11, in the house right above the chocobo stables. He will come out when you open the merchant's door and ask you to bring him some night flowers. Then go to the the Upper Jeuno Chocobo Stables and talk to Shallot.

To get the flowers, you need to go to Qufim Isle and look for a path down the cliff at location F-8 (you can't get flower while invis). Wait for nightfall (22:00) and then walk down the path and look for the glowing nightflowers. The flowers is guarded by a Kraken; no worries, have Sneak casted on yourself or use a Silent Oil and you will be perfectly safe. Click on the flower and it will trigger a cut scene. After the cutscene, go talk to the sick kid at his house, then go talk to Brutus at the Chocobo house in Upper Jeuno and you will be flagged to be able to change jobs to Beastmaster. If you go back to where you first spoke to Dietmund, his now healthy son will give you a Beast Whistle and 2100 gil. After you receive the money and whistle you may go to Brutus (Upper Jeuno, G-7 at the Chocobo Stables) and speak to him.

How to get the quest
# Dec 11 2014 at 4:19 PM Rating: Decent
To save everyone the headache I went through check out this video on how to acquire the Beastmaster quest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lTqyMDySL8

If you can't view the video, the main problem everyone is having is that you can not get the Beastmaster quest without first getting your Chocobo License. Do that quest first then go back to the merchant's house.
Cant get Cutscene

First I talked with Shalott. Then went to Lower Jeuno and went to the house. The quest was just that easy with "Silent Oil" (had a stack...only needed 2...1 there and one back). Now when I got back to Jeuno got the cs, and at the end of that cs got the whitle and gil. Then talked with Butus and back to the house for a last "Thank You." Got the flag after speaking with Brutus.
Sneak/Invisible
# May 19 2008 at 1:37 PM Rating: Decent
If u have invisible/sneak spell or similair potions u can do this at level 1, there is no fighting required.

Unfortunately i died the first time tryin because i saw Kraken 2 late, second time i casted Sneak, looked if there was no gob nearby and dropped Invisible... and the quest was over before i could blink my eyes.

Congratulations, u got yourself a nice advanced job! My first advanced as i write. :)

This was maybe the quickest quest i have ever completed. I also solo'd it with a 40SAM/20THF. Didn't use oil or powder and I also defeated the Kraken alone. Try it..... it's easy.

I'm trying to get this started by talking to Dietmund and he keeps asking me get some chocobo. I tried to act as if he gave me the quest but it wasn't working.

Alright figured out my problem. I was trying to start the quest with a job that wasn't level 30+. Once i switched everything went just fine.

did this today as a 45PLD/WAR was very easy just ran down to qufim, killed a few goblin bounty hunters, killed the kraken, killed some more bounty hunters (i missed the night time =[

very easy for a lvl 45 to solo if u dont have sneak/invis and dont want to pay lol for powder/oil
Obtaining bst
# Jul 27 2007 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
I did this in sorta of a hurry. I got the cs at the house then realzed that i had like 5~7 mins left of nighttime. So i am talkin to my ls debating if i should go or not, so i did. On my way i got an aggro by a goblin bounty hunter, i said that aint gonna stop me. So i keep running with it on me and get 2 other links. Still not gonna stop me. I ran to the kraken and got aggro and clicked the flower's really quick. The cs popped up along with a buddy of mine. He killed my aggro while i was in the cs. So i come out of the cs, thinking hey i should be alright. A goblin bounty hunter comes down and aggros me while i have 25 health and kills me. So i'm thinking damn those bounty hunters... I walk to brutus and finish the cs, and i am now able to get beastmaster. But watch out for those bounty hunters, -_-.
easy sh*t
# Jul 12 2007 at 10:24 PM Rating: Decent
i did this quest in ten minutes. prisim powder (invisible) took care of the goblin aggro, and of course silent oil or sneak helps with the kraken
30 Whm/Blm
# Jun 28 2007 at 9:19 AM Rating: Decent
Did this today as a 30 Whm/Blm. Pretty easy- never fought anything. Like it said- sneak right by the kraken, just make sure there aren't any gobs around. I did spend over 200 MP just casting sneak and invisible just to get to the thing.

Solo'd this as a lvl 41 War/Mnk. Had only 550 HP left after fighting one of the stupid goblins... Used two hour and barely won with like 110 HP left. But ya this can definately be solo'd.
Got lucky
# May 12 2007 at 5:36 AM Rating: Decent
I did this quest last night, and it was a lot easier because when i got there someone was fighting the kraken. So that was one less thing to worry about. After the cut scene, a goblin bounty hunter decides to aggro me. Thankfully Avoo was kind enough to grab it's attention off of me so I could make a get away.

Thanks Avoo
stupid bounty hunters!

i am pissed. i'm a lvl 40 sam/war galka. i was bored today and i was running our jeuno and i thought to myself. i have a hour before i have to eat easter dinner i wonder if i can complete bst flag quest.... so i go up and do what i have to do to do the quest. everything okay then. i run down notice there's 2 goblin bounty hunters on the edge of coast. work my way around them. go where the kraken is and i get aggroed by a goblin. fight it. kill it. use meditate think okay i'm going to rest now so i can have full heal fighting it. by the time i'm done resting i'll have meditate back. look at kraken and it's only a dc. okay no problem i kill dc all the time. i get to hackin it's a pretty good fight so far. i'm winning but it's going to be close. all of a sudden a goblin comes and aggros me. so i get killed! son of a!!!! we'll i'm going to do it again. just have to wait for my NPC to be ready. then me and my taru buddy are going to own everything around that area!

A level 30 BLM or level 34 RDM should be able to do this quest easy as pie. Go down, grab the flower, view cut scene, cast warp. Done. I had no problems until I triggered 'Chocobo on the Loose' and got pissed.
RE: confused

same thing happened to me

kinda sad when you have to do a another quest that has no relation to a different one AND you have to do it before finishing the one you tried to before activating a different one (confusing?)
good for me

I did with a level 44PLD LS mate. I was level 34BLM/WHM. He just took hate and attacked while I cured him/cast Blizzaga on Kraken. Very easy fight. Blizzaga was doing 220 damage each time.

I had the same problem with Brutus. I zoned twice. Came back. He said something about the chocobo first time. I spoke to him again, and got BST flag.

aaarrggghhh as with dyingimmortal i've just noticed i haven't flagged beastmaster at all, i've freed a chocobo an now i have to find it. when i speak to brutis he tells me its probably gone to la thine plateu, so for any1 else doing this quest i dont recomend setting the chocobo free when u go back to see brutis grrrrr maybe not so simple after all :(
grrrrrrrrrrr
# Aug 30 2006 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent

Ok heres one for you...I went to get the quest save my son and after talking to Dietmund i went straight to Quifim Island and picked the flowers...I then gt the scene with Dietmund running up to you and the chocobo coming to help dig for the flowers...i then went back to Jeuno and spoke to Dietmunds son and recieved the beast whistle and 2100 gil...the save my son quest is now marked as complete i then went to tlk to Brutus and recieved a scene about wild chocobo's living in La Theine i was then asked to set a chocobo free? this is where i got confused, so i set the chocobo free and now have a quest about bringing the chocobo back and am not flaged as a best master and talking to Brutus again just makes him say please bring back the chocobo good luck...

any ideas?

btw the quest i got from Brutus is called Chocobo on the Loose

Same thing happened to me.

What I did was zone to lower jeuno, then kept talked to Brutus. The first time he said something about the chocobo, and the second time I got the cutscene and became a beastmaster. I had already talked to Brutus 3 or 4 times before I zoned so I think zoning should do it.
Perfect Dodge
# Aug 03 2006 at 8:42 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I got a chance to test my theory on perfect dodge. I works great and if you set your home point at the lower jeuno gate you end up right where you need to be to finish the quest. Here's how it works.

THF lvl 1
Get close to the Kraken without aggroing it right at the bend where you can first see it is good.
Make sure it is the right time for the nightflower bloom after 22:00.
Use perfect dodge make sure you didn't use your 2 hour on your other job already. (you might want to make a macro for it)
Run up to the nightflower and touch it.
The Kraken will aggro you but it won't damage you.+
When you get the cut scene the Kraken can't kill you.
Cutscene is finished and the Kraken kills you.
Homepoint and talk to the npcs. Done. :)

You could do the exact same thing with lvl 1 PLD and invincible. Sleep may work too but you still have to worry about when the Kraken wakes up and it will chase you, and you have to be extra careful of giants and such. With a lvl 1 THF it is cheap (no silent oils and you don't have to worry about losing any xp. It does take some stealth to get there at lvl 1 but lvl 30 jobs would still have to sneak by giants and most other mobs there too. If you are a lvl 30 rdm or whm I still suggest this method over sneak. You don't risk losing 500 plus xp and by dying and home pointing you save a scroll of instant warp or a long walk back.

Bind won't work because the Kraken can hit you when you go by and when you are standing by the night flowers. Bind usually doesn't last long on high lvl mobs either so by the time you are done with the cutscene it will no longer be bound.

I did this quest originally as a 30rdm using sneak and I barely made out. It's not worth the risk of losing that much xp.

Other posting talk about using any level one job but it is very difficult to get to the flower before the Kraken can hit you. There is a chance you will get killed and have to go all the back there again. If you have thf or pld level one it makes it so much easier. You don't want to waste time sneaking over to the Kraken any more times than necessary.
The Karkin
# Jul 30 2006 at 10:34 PM Rating: Decent
OKAY Save everyone the hassle that reasds this if u have sleep make the stupid Karkin sleep get the flower and ur done :D just did it lol
Perfect Dodge
# Jul 23 2006 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure if this would really work or not but if you want to save money on sneak oils it's worth a try. Use thf lvl 1 if you haven't leveled it or pld level 1. Get as close to the Kraken as you can and make sure it is the right time. Use Perfect Dodge or Invincible then run up and touch the flower as soon as possible. You should get throught the cutscene ok then it will probably kill you. If you set your homepoint in lower jeuno then just homepoint and you are right near the merchant's house so finishing the quest is easy. Like I said I haven't tested this theory if Kraken attacks you with magic you will die. If you wanna save some money this may work.

I used 30 rdm and someone had killed it before I got down there. I touched the flower got the cutscene. After the cutscene I see Kraken with his back to me. And the red words come up saying sneak is about to wear off. I start to use my scroll of instant warp which isn't feeling so instant at the moment. After a couple seconds sneak wears off and Kraken turns toward me. All I could think was oh crap. Kraken hit me 3 times for 140 damage each and then by some miracle warp kicked in and I made it out alive. 1 more hit was all it would have taken. Talk about lucky. Thank you to whom ever killed the Kraken before I got there.
