Summary

Bring back a rare ore from the Gusgen Mines on the Konschtat Highlands. First ask Davyad, an adventurer residing in the Mines District, how he acquired his load of the ore.

Walkthrough

After starting the mission head to Bastok Mines (K-6) and speak to Davyad. After a pleasant conversation you are told to find a rare rock that will help in the war effort (Glocolite. You will need some hare meat for this mission.

After obtaining the hare meat head to Gusgen Mines in Konschtat Highlands (L-7). Unless you did the "A Foreman's Best Friend" quest you will have no map. Anyway, head into the tunnel and on the First area where the tunnel splits, take the Right Path, then Left Path, then Right Path, and finally another Right Path. In the last area (J-7) you should see a small pool with ???.

Use the "Trade" command on the ???. Once you place the hare meat an NM Fish called Blind Moby will attack you. When the NM is defeated he will drop a Rare Rock Item (Glocolite. You can do this over and over for the rest of your party (the respawn times have been changed for this monster so you should be able to do it quickly -- around 5-10 mins respawn)

Trade the item to either of the mission guards to finish this quest.

Blind Moby
# Jan 08 2007 at 8:55 PM Rating: Decent
I did this mission the other night as a Mnk/War (24/12). It was simple enough, just got some sneak oils and prism powder, when through the mines, killed a bandersnatch at the spawn for Blind Moby. Traded the meat and solo'd Blind Moby.
Used Sole Sushi, and 2hr, killed it with about 1/3 of my health gone, pretty easy fight. You can solo this easily at my level, so don't worry about help if you plan to use your 2hr.
anyone wanna answer the damn question?

I got around 32000 something conquest points how many do i need to activate the mission after the 4 musketeers mission? so ur telling me i jus turn in crystal to get more points and skip this mission? i wanted to go all the way with my pld but i neglected the sig for so long i jus started trying new jobs with the sig to get more conquest points
anyone wanna answer the damn question?
# Sep 08 2006 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
Conquest points don't relate to your mission, you have to go to Status > Profile and look at your Rank Points, which are shown as a bar. Turn in crystals to a Musketeer to max it out and you should get this mission.
Help a brotha out! =)

ok haven't even bothered with this mission as i pretty much have skipped all middle missions. however i was thinking i'm gonna go back and whoop up on some blind moby. before i waste the time. can anyone tell me what the hell you get for completing the mission? do you get any gil? an item? or just a pat on the back? just curious. personally i'm tired of wasting valuable time on many pointless efforts within this game.
Hmm.

I laugh at the people who do this mission. This is a little tid-bit you should know. This mission can be skipped! You ask how all you do is turn in crystals. Simple as that then you talk to the mission guy, and select the Jeuno mission. You still get rank 4 isn't amazing! I know *gasp* missions can be skipped? The best part is this mission really didnt have a whole lot to do with the story line of the actual game seeing as tho I know people that I've tagged along to help kill it. Also yes you can re-take any mission you've once done and I've seen what you get it's not worth the trouble of Gusgen.

Before undertaking this mission, I looked on this board to see what the minimum level might be to solo Blind Moby. I solo'd him with ease with my level 30 WAR/MNK Galka. I started with 700 max HP and by the end of the fight I think I had around 300 HP left or so. I used my 2 hour but I didn't have to. He was pretty easy. I didn't know you could skip this mission before I accepted it but I had to go here for the Deathbringer sword anyway so it didn't matter to me. Also, I got aggroed by Ghouls and Bandersnatches at my level but they were easy to me. I couldn't take on more than two at a time though so watch out for links. Hope this helps.
Already skipped

Can you still spawn/fight Blind Moby, even after you've long since skipped the mission? I'm Rank 5 now, maybe I'll go back and kill this thing, if so.
Need help?

Peace out!

you know, if u feed the I.M. gaurds crystals, and ur rank bar is 75% full, u can skip missions, accept for the first mission of the rank and last i think.
Rank points

Just soloed this as a lvl 34 pld....soooo easy.

When u enter the mines, just head right, left, right and right... find the ??? at the edge of the pool in the back (if you examine it it will say that you see monster tracks) place a hare meat down and go at it. If you are a lvl to where ghouls will aggro you (except for them aggroing you based on your hitpoints) then you may want to take a friend, because i did walk past 4 of them.... Anyway, not a difficult mob to kill.

Good luck!
How I did it
# Jul 05 2004 at 10:33 PM Rating: Decent
Im a lvl 30/15 Thf/Nin, I did this mission solo just today.

After walking in the mines I saw a Banshee and thought there was no way I could make it but after awhile it moved off and I continued into the mines. I followed the instructions right, left, right, and right. On the way I met 4 or 5 ghouls and bandersnatch but they were easy prey to me. I walked in the room with the pool and had to fight a bandersnatch. The worms in there scared me but they don't aggro. After placing the meat on the ??? he spawned in few seconds like bubbling bernie. I sneak attacked him for about 150 dmg and then fought him normal. I used fast blade near the end of the fight right before I killed him. I have 467 hp I was down to about 200 hp when I killed him. I didn't use Utsusemi or Perfect Dodge. It was pretty easy.

Bastok Rank 3/2 Mission - "To the Forsaken Mines"

As a RDM33/WHM16 killing the NM Blind Moby 25 - 26 alone at J-7 was very easy. [NOTE: You can only carry one Gulcolite at a time. So don't waste your Hare Meat.}

It was so easy I called my WHM38 buddy to come and do it too. While I was waiting at J-7 for my buddy, I got aggroed by Bandersnatch 21 - 24, Ghoul (BLM) 20 - 27 and Ghoul (WAR) 16 - 26. They were easy kills but heavy on downtime when soloing... find a good spot to hide to rest/heal in order to avoid aggro.

Unexpectedly, while waiting at J-7... the NM Smothered Schmidt 36 - 38 (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=271) spawned directly behind me while I was resting/regenerating.

My death was in less than 6 hits because I was unprepared and alone. Therefore, when soloing... I recommend anyone doing this mission to only do it during daytime hours. It would suck a lot to be fighting the NM Blind Moby at night and have the NM Smothered Schmidt spawn and kill you!!

P.S. Safest way to do this mission... if that is all that you want to do: Sneak and Invisible all the way to J-7 during daytime. Kill the NM Blind Moby, then Sneak and Invisible your way out of the mines to avoid aggro.

Question....
# Feb 23 2004 at 10:52 PM Rating: Default
um why would you want to skip this mission? Doesn't this add to your fame?
RE: Question....
# Feb 29 2004 at 4:37 PM Rating: Decent
Missions don't add to fame. Quests do.
why didn't i get this mission?

this is a skippable mission, if you had enough rank points prior to doing the 4 musketeers mission, you wouldn't need to do this one.

Basically you can do this mission, or you could just trade enough crystals to get rank points (which i'm assuming you did).

How many rank points do you need to bypass this mission? Thanks
