Introduction

Everquest II is a game from Sony Online Entertainment, set in the fictitious world of Norrath. Taking place 400 years in the future from the original EverQuest, the world of Norrath is a fractured and factioned place.

Players can choose from 18 races for their characters. The choice of race affects where your character is eligible to start. Your choice of race will also affect the side that you start on, good or evil. Some races are neutral, and this allows them to choose to start on either side. The choice of a side or city loyalty affects game play in a number of ways. On the PvP servers, the choice of a side also affects PvP teaming. A table of all the available playable races, ordered by starting city options and showing alignment, can be found at Category:EQ2 Character Races.

There are a total of 24 classes available for players to choose from. Unlike the original Everquest and some other MMOs, your choice of race is not the limiting factor for class selection. Classes are available depending on your good/evil choice. Certain classes are available to both sides, and some are Evil only while others are available only to the players starting in the good cities. A table of all the classes, including the tradeskill and secondary tradeskill professions, can be found at Category:EQ2 Classes.

Advancement

There are 3 kinds of advancement experience in EverQuest II. Adventure experience, Crafting experience, and Achievement experience.

Adventure experience generally comes from killing monsters, completing quests, and exploring new areas. The bulk of the adventure experience you attain is from killing monsters. As you gain adventure experience you will rise in adventure level.

Crafting experience is granted when you complete something via a tradeskill. Some quests give crafting experience. Bonus experience is awarded for the first time you create the highest quality of a given recipe. As you gain crafting experience, you will rise in your crafting level.

Achievement experience comes from exploring some new areas, from completing some quests, and killing some encounters or named monsters. Achievement experience is only available at level 10, and happens automatically. It is not awarded retroactively. Gaining achievement experience results in achievement points, which you can use to customize your characters strengths.
