Melee (WoW)

Melee refers to hand-to-hand fighting. This doesn't mean that you must actually use your hands but it refers to a close in battle with swords or maces or other non-ranged, non-magical weapons are used.

In WoW there are a couple of melee-specific classes and other hybrids that can choose a primarily melee role. Examples of strict melee classes would be warriors and rogues. Hybrids that can choose a primarily melee role (where most of the damage comes from the weapons/melee fighting and not from spells or ranged) are Paladins (specifically Retribution) and Cat Form Druids.
