Who loves this icon?

I know I don't. This icon means you've been adventuring long enough so that your equipment has become damaged. Fortunately I've written this guide here to help you through the process of getting your stuff repaired so that you can get back out there and smack some more marmots.

Who Repairs What

There are three ways to get something repaired. One way is to check with the repair specialist NPC in your city. Another is to have a crafter do it. The last is to do it yourself. Each way has its advantages and disadvantages.

NPCs

They are listed in our database, I have a link here to the filtered NPC list for ease of access.

Repair Specialist NPCs

Repair NPCs are good for if you can't find someone to repair your item as they are always available. The only issues with using repair NPCs is that they can only repair items to 75% and higher level items get very expensive to repair.

Speaking with the NPC repair specialist, you are presented with 4 options.

Have an item Repaired

This option allows you to have the NPC repair your items. You can elect to repair all equipped gear or select the items you want repaired individually. The NPC will give you the price for the repair and ask you to confirm that you want to repair that item. Some items can get quite pricey!

Perform your own repairs

This allows you to use their facilities in order to make your own repairs.

Learn about repairing

The NPC will let you read The Treatise of Repair.

Never mind

This option ends your session with the NPC repair specialist.

Other Players

You can have another player repair your item as well as repair it yourself should you have the right skill and items.

To seek repairs from another player, go to your Inventory, then select the item, and click the Seek Repairs button. A window will pop up that will ask you to set the offer in Gil or Items. Once you select your offer, you will now have a bazaar bag next to your name and hopefully your offer is enticing enough for some crafter to repair it for you. This is obviously a downfall since you must have a crafter come along and do the repair for you.

Repairing Things Yourself

Repairing an item yourself is the easiest way to get an item repaired, but also requires the most work as you have to level the craft you need in order to repair the item. In order to find out what craft you need, simply search ZAM's database for your item, click on it, and to the right of the image showing the stats will be a information box that will tell you what skill repairs it. The item page also tells you what you need to repair the item as far as materials.

Once you have the skill necessary, and the materials required, you are ready to begin.

First, go to Attributes & Gear and unequip your item by selecting the item and pressing enter. You cannot repair something that you are wearing, how would you like to have a Armorer banging on your Bronze Chainmail while you're wearing it? Next, go to your Inventory, select the item you wish to repair, and click the Repair button. You will notice next to the repair button how much wear your item has accumulated.

Once you've done this you'll assume your crafting stance. At this point you want to select the materials needed to repair the item, then select the tool you want to use. You will either successfully repair the item and you loose your materials, or you will fail. If you succeed, you will see a message that lets you know how much you improved the condition by and you may get a skill point or two. If you fail, you get to try again.

Equip your gear and head back out into Eorzea!
