Every game has some method for a Main Tank to secure and hold, or regain, the aggro of a mob, ensuring that the mob hates the MT more than anyone else. In most games a Tank will have several abilities to do this with. Collectively, any skill that modifies the mobs aggro, or his Hate List, is called a Taunt.

Skills that do the opposite, reducing the mob's hate for the caster and, thereby, encouraging him to go back to the tank, is called a De-Taunt.
