A faction is a major organization in the game, spanning many sub-groups. There are two factions that a player can be a part of, the Horde and the Alliance. Additionally, the Steamwheedle Cartel of goblins and the different forces of the city of Shattrath count as factions within the player's reputation window.

One could make a case that there are also many different non-friendly factions, such as the Scourge, the Burning Legion, the Qiraji, or the dragonflights.
