Description

The Yagudo tribes have made their homes in the dry, rocky cliffs to the west of Windurst. Adventurers who wander here must travel with care, as the Yagudo are aggressive and tend to attack in groups.

The Federation of Windurst has a treaty of sorts with the Yagudo of Giddeus. The tarutaru bring food offerings to the Yagudo in exchange for peace and harmony. However, this treaty is shaky at best, and the relationship between Giddeus and Windurst is contentious at best.

Points of Interest

  • Hoo Mjuu the Torrent, which drops Monster Signa, spawns around H-10.
  • A Giddeus Chest Key is needed for obtaining a Kazham Airship Pass without paying gil.
  • Chest keys drop from Yagudo on the southern end of the map.
  • Beware of large, round rooms that might have hidden holes in the middle of them.
  • The AF weapon for Dark Knight is obtained after defeating a notorious monster at E-12.

Maps

The Map of Windurst Region, which contains the map of Giddeus, can be purchased from several NPCs for roughly 200 gil.

Does anyone know who the NPC is you hand in the weapons to for mission 6? I'm thinking it's the fellow at the burning circle...

There are 2 NPC Yagudo at the treasure room. One (who walks around inside the treasure room) will give you a book for a certain quest if you trade him Silver Beastcoin. The other just stands outside. One of them is probably who to trade the item you have to offer.

There are two NPC Yagudo up top that accept Food and Drink offerings, you've probably dealt with them before. They aren't the ones you're looking for, as you may have found out.

There is, however, a third NPC Yagudo down inside the caves of Giddeus just outside of a Treasure Room that likely handles that transaction.
The Dragon...

Can you tell me anything about the dragon? It's the required kill on mission 6 from bastok...

Thanks

You can only fight the dragon if you're doing Windurst as the second half of Bastok or San D'oria mission 6. So most of the people that hang out in this dungeon (because they leveled up in Windurst) aren't going to be able to tell you much about it.

If you're not doing the mission, then you don't get the key that you need to reach the dragon's battlefield.
Giddeus Information
# Nov 12 2003 at 8:08 PM Rating: Good
Starting off with some mob information.

Lower Level Stuffs: (L5 - 10?)
Yagudo Initiates = Monks.
Yagudo Acloytes = Black Mage/White Mage
Yagudo Scribes = Black Mage/White Mage
Dirt Eaters = Black Mage Worms
Giddeus Pugil = Warrior Fishies

Higher Level Stuffs: (L10 - 15?)
Yagudo Persecutor = Warrior
Yagudo Piper = Bard
Yagudo Mendicant = Summoner
Earth Eater = Black Mage
Digger Wasp = Warrior

Rougher Mobs: (15+)
Yagudo Priest = White Mage
Yagudo Theologist = Black Mage?
Yagudo Votary = Fighter Type?

There are two named birds down by the treasure room. One drops a dagger with Aspir (MP Tap) every time, and the other drops a shield with water defense. Both are Samurai or Ninja, I'm not sure which.

Treasures Chests spawn deeper in the dungeon but all require a "Giddeus Key" which friends and I have had no luck finding. Our thief didn't have lockpicks on him when we found them. They apparently can randomly spawn in specific locations because we found two in different spots, and later they were gone.

There are also Giddeus Springs which you can get water from if you have a container.. I have no other information about this.

QUESTS:

Mission 3:
For those doing Mission 3, when you zone in, the path branches left and right. You deliver one bag of food to one NPC, and one bag of drink to the other. There is one NPC down each path, before you get to the cavern section of Giddeus.

StarFall Tear:
This starts out on top of the Opistary in Port Windurst. You need "a handful of pugil scales" from the Giddeus Pugil here. Take the scales and trade it to the "Sparkle Tree" on Starfall Hillock in East Sarubaruta during night time when the Sparkle Tree says there is a frost thingy on the ground. It's pretty obvious when to trade the scales to it. After that just hand the StarFall tear you get to the NPC in Port Windurst for a L14 Shield.

Battle:

Some tips for fighting here... Do not stand out in the open. You'll probably end up getting several adds ( extra monsters ) and end up dying running for the zone. Always check behind you and make sure nothing is close by in case you have to make a run for it or back up to rest.

You can get Pugil Scales from ANY pugil, even the pug pugils in the rivers of E. Sar.

Yagudo Votary = Tougher monks, watch out if you soloing in this place, below lvl 25 you might have an hard time with those. The toughier mobs give (rare drop) a key requires to get an air pass in Jeuno.

They are still giving xp to lvl 25-28 characters so watch out.

The Persecutors, as evidenced by their Great Katanas, are actually Samurai, though the difference is only seen on rare occasion.

The Named Yagudo (something along the lines of Zhuu Bu the Silent [Parana Shield] and Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker [Aspir Knife] ) are both Ninjas.

The keys drop off of the higher tier of Yagudo in the zone.

I still haven't remembered to find out the third NM's name. Drops a very nice necklace.

The Bees are easier than the Giant Bees in Sarutabaruta. The Pugils aggro if you get too close. The Mission 3 areas that have the Yagudo NPCs are easily accessible and have only easy Yagudo enemies along th way, if you're careful you could do M3 at just about any level, as long as you don't aggro more than one Yagudo, especially the Scribes. Venturing into the caves is dangerous because of that hoel there. Myself, and four others (all levels 10-11) got wiped out by the hordes of enemies down there. I dropped and was dead before I knew what was going on. Beware the song of death the Piper plays.

NAMED

In the basement area, if you go to the right when entering, there is a sub boss. His name is like something the silenced or so. He's not too tough. We killed him with a thf, war, rdm, and blm, all lvls 11-13. He dropped the Parana Shield. Not a bad shield, the redmage got it. In the northern area, pass the actual city looking area. THere's a bad *** yago monk. Probably around lvl 20. Passed him is the area to the Burning Cirlce.

The named Samurai in the basement, before the treasure room (used in Dangerous Gift and Bookworm quests) both drop daggers with dmg 5, delay 210, and the added effect of MP drain (lvl 12 req). Sadly, they can only be used by the melee and hybrids. Thus, either have a warrior/thief/secondary class as main or subjob. Shame the Red Mages can't have this... twould be perfect for them...

Mhoji would only sell me San D'Oria and Bastok. I bought those thinking I could get more but then she wanted 600 for Jeuno, so I didn't get it. How do you get her to sell you Giddeus?

The Yagudo were "invited" to be able to live in Giddeus, an area on the western edge of Sarutabaruta by Windurst's Star Sibyl, hoping for peace between the two races. It hasn't been working out too well.

Giddeus is a zone that begins as a small canyon that quickly descends into caverns. There's even a spot where you really need to watch your step because not everything is as it seems.

Funnily enough, this secret pathway leads to a portion of the first "floor" that is a good deal more difficult than whatever you may find deep within the caverns.

Far back on the first level, explicitly guarded by a solitary Votary, is a Dias containing a Burning Circle.

Monsters: Giddeus Bee, Giddeus Pugil, Dirt Eater, Earth Eater, Yagudo: Initiate, Acolyte, Scribe, Piper, Mendicant, Persecutor, Votary, Priest, 2 named NIN Yagudo, 1 other NM Yagudo.

This area also has part of mission 3. Luckily you don't have to go into the tough areas to do it.

Persecutors are nasty to low levels, an 11 a 9 and an 8 can barely kill one. They seem to be found only in the lower reaches of a cave system. I'm not sure whats beyond them.

This is a good zone to level in for 7-10ish, especially solo. Lots of decent xp mobs. After that the areas poor until you can take out pipers/mendicants/persecutors

I went exploring with a group of three in this dungeon last night. Not very good xp for the dirtworms (group was lvl 7-8), and the yagudos were pretty tough for the xp they gave. Be careful where you walk, a group member and I fell into a hole that put us a level down in the dungeon where we were immediately disposed of by some high lvl earth worms (big brothers to the dirt worms I would imagine).

This place is the Yagudo hometown. The Giddeus Bees & Pugils are pretty easy. But the Yagudo could be nasty. Deep within the caves are nastier Yagudo like the Persecuters, Mendicants (complete with an Elemental pet), and Pipers, as well as resident dirtworms.
