Description

The moblins in Newton Movalpolos are even more fearsome than their counterparts in Oldton Movalpolos. Black mages, blue mages and other fighters have been known to sneak near the entrances to these catacombs, honing their battle skills by snaring the pets of wandering moblins.

On the far east side of Newton is the fabled Mine Shaft #2716, where some of the moblin family's most feared fighters await questing adventurers.

Points of Interest

  • Mine Shaft #2716 is accessed from N-9 on the far east side of this zone.
  • Exiting Mine Shaft #2716 places you at J-6.
  • Numerous ledges and barricades prevent adventurers from moving certain directions through this zone.
  • Sneak and invisible are required to move safely through this zone.

Maps

The Map of Newton Movalpolos is obtained from treasure coffers in this zone.

Furance Hatch moves ALL gates??

...or only one? And if so which hatch controls which gate?

Thanks

Edit: okay, one furance hatch moves all gates, no matter where it is located.

Usually one invisible guy goes to the hatch at the west side of G-6 and operates the gates from there. Then the party moves past the gate in F-10 to the hatch north of it. Now the lonely one in G-6 can operate the gates again, since his way back was cut off earlier, or the group in F-10 uses the hatch there.

The lonely one can go now back to Oldton Mov. and re-enter Newton in the south. The group at F-10 operates the gates once more, and they can re-unite there. From there on I don't know how to procede.

Did only Bugbear Matman, and that was enough to do get there.

Doh! Found this info in the forum for Mine Shavt #2716, which I'm copying and pasting verbatim. Thank you, Thank you, Stryder of the Asura Server!

There are various Furnaces scattered around the zone in Newton Movalpolos. You trade one Firesand to the furnace and it rotates the gate. The problem is that you have to drop Invis before trading and all the mobs aggro to sight and con at least Easy Prey to a level 75. We usually have our Thief do it as he can trade and then immediately 'Hide'.

However, you only need to rotate the gates to get your people into position to throw the two upper levers. Once you are across the 'bridge' you can take either of two possible central routes across Newton Movalpolos to get to the Mine Shaft. If one is closed due to the gate being in the wrong position, backtrack and take the other.

Regarding throwing the switches to create the bridge in Olton.
There are two upper level switches that can only be reached via a brief zone into peripheral areas of Newton (you cannot get to the Mine Shaft via these parts of the zone). Get two people to the upper switches, one to the lower and the others stand at the edge of where the bridge appears. The person on the lower switch can reach the switch from the place where the others stand on the edge to wait for the bridge, i.e. without needing to enter Newton.

When everyone is ready, someone count down to zero and the three people on the levers throw them at the same time. The three bridge plates swing into place and you then have 30 secs to get across. The two people on the upper switches can drop down to the bridge level by running to the edge of their platform that has three red posts in a line. Normally these posts prevent you from falling down, but they become passable once the lever is thrown.

30 seconds is enough time to get across as long as you don't panic, but if you have a person or two with flee, put them on the upper switches to be safe.

Working Oldton Elevator 2get2 mid-Newton?

Ok, does anyone know a post that gives a coherent explanation of how the elevator in the east end of Oldton Movalpolis works, and what it takes to work it? Or has someone posted a good explanation? From what I've seen, it looks like two of the three levers can only be accessed by zoning in and back through the southern and northern ends of Newton Movalpolis, and it may take a fourth person to work the elevator from the other side once it's been used, so the first three can get there too.

I love maps, and have finally acquired both the Oldton and Newton maps, but this looks like the only way to access the central area of Newton Movalpolis!

I'm going to post this in both the Oldton and Newton area forums and anyplace else logical I can think of. Please help me out!

this is just a friednly reminder to you all doing the mission and or enm. Remeber there are 3 gates total... when you open the last one before mine shaft it closes all the gates leading to the Rusty Leavers. This also keeps us miners pretty muched locked out. now what ppl have to do when ENMgoers/mission people are rude enough to FORGET TO TURN THE GATES BACK is that when you come to do enm you'll have to go to the northern area and hit furnace and escape just to get throught the middle area again. Now for anyone who reads this and does an enm/mission here please PLEASE remember to turn the gates back to normal after youve passed the gate in the middle row.

Bugbear Watchman drop Newton coffer keys. I just solo'd a key for myself near the zone at H-7. There are some stronger Watchman deeper in as well. I know there are more but at least this is a starting point. :p

Rotating gates
# Mar 10 2005 at 4:28 PM Rating: Excellent
I originally posted this in the Oldton Movalpolos section, but I think it will be useful here as well since it shows how to rotate the gates.
----------------
I found a Treasure Chest in Oldton Movalpolos the other day just out of my reach, and I also recently acquired a key off one of the Bugbears. I couldn't leave that Chest just sitting there, so I spent the better part of the day figuring out how to get there. All the information you need has already been posted here but nobody seems to have connected the dots yet. Anyways, here's how to get the 2 Treasure Chests on the upper platforms in K-10.

1. Equip yourself (or bring a friend) with a job that will allow you to escape/warp/teleport out of the mines relatively quickly.

2. Buy 1 or 2 Jars of Firesand (Alchemy) and Prisim Powders if you cannot cast Invis. Bats won't aggro here.

3. Head to K-10 and check where the Treasure Chest is. If the Chest is on the south platform, head to the Newton Movapolos zone at J-12. If it is on the north platform, head to the Newton zone at J-8.

4a. (J-12 zone) Hug the wall to your left. Use invis as necessary to avoid aggro. Eventually you should rezone into Oldton Movapolos right at the south platform. If at F-10 in Newton you run into a gate blocking your way, skip to #5 to read how to open it.

4b. (J-8 zone) Hug the wall to your right. Use invis as necessary. Eventually you should rezone into Oldton Movapolos right at the north platform. If at E-7 in Newton you run into a gate blocking your way, skip to #5 to read how to open it.

5. Rotating the gates- Here is where some people get confused. If there is a gate blocking your way to the Oldton zone, you need to rotate the gate to allow you passage. This is accomplished by zoning into Newton Movapolos at J-8 and following the path (only 1 way to go) to F-6. Sneak is needed for a short tunnel with Dire Bats. Here you will see a Furnace Hatch on the south side of the platform. You must trade 1 Firesand to the Furnace to rotate the platforms. This can be very tricky because of the high level mobs patrolling the entire platform. Only choice is to bring a group to kill them or drop invis, trade item, and reinvis as fast as you can.

At this point the way you came from is now blocked. To get back to Oldton without an escape of some kind is incredibly dangerous and impractical. Just get a friend to come with and get you out. When you trade the Firesand both the F-10 and the E/F-7 gates will rotate 1/4 turn, allowing you passage from either J-8 or J-12 of Oldton to the treasure chest areas.

Hope this helps some of you out!

Just want to point out that bats don't aggro. I went mining there a few times with a 47 job (that I did not mind dying with) and you only need invis. At least in the north and south part, I don't know about the middle one (where you need to raise a bridge in Oldton to access it). Might be different mobs there but other then that, no bat aggro: Dire, Purgatory, Nightmare, Succubus, etc.

Oh and you don't need to kill everything, just be patient. Usually takes no more then 3 minutes for the north furnace to be clear to drop invis.

It's for a later CoP mission - 5-3B, I think. I know it's in chapter 5, at least. You need it to enter the Burning Circle in Mine Shaft #2716.

Actually, after the BC fight with the moblins, you have to go do some running around. Then you come back to the entrance to the BC again and trade the key, but there will be no fight.

You don't need this key to enter the BC for the Chapter 5 Moblin fight, but you do need it when you return.

Does anyone know which goblins drop the coffer key? We fought a bunch of goblins, moblins and bugbears that conned Decent Challenge and Even Match to me at 71 and got no drops. Discovered that there were some which read Very Tough and Incredibly Tough in the deeper regions of the map. I'm assuming keys drop off of those, but was hoping someone could confirm.

How do you turn the gates? Some people say by throwing firesand into the furnaces or by flipping switches. But where can that be done?

Leveling here :-)
I was a 57 RDM and partied here with all 58s, with a balanced party very fun leveling here, you can camp right at zone when you enter from Oldton and climb here into 60, the links can be painful, but with a skilled RNG pulling and the occasional Carbuncle pull that I had subbed we were fine! The biggest thing is that the Mobs do link even if they are on seperate levels.

Anyone know if there's any mining points in this area? I'm afraid to go wandering around without a map with so many powerful gobs mobs and bugs, but some good mining might pursuade me to try my luck =)

there are 7 points (maybe 8) on this map. i don't suggest mining there unless you're 75. getting to the points also depends on which way the fense is open and its a pain.

Hmm... Incredibly Tough... but how tough IS that?
# Oct 03 2004 at 2:50 AM Rating: Decent
Well, I wandered in here with my 50 RDM/WHM friend, as my 50 THF/RNG... I noticed a level 60 around, and figured that I would test the waters. Well, my theory that monsters that are higher level also have bigger aggro range seems to have held up, as a Goblin (Fireman I think?) saw me, which linked to a Bugbear, which linked to another Goblin and another Bugbear.

The first Goblin hit me for 280 damage, and I was like "Oh boy. Jammer Leeches all over again", and I booked it out of there, making it out with around 180 HP. Stupid free hits that the monsters get when you zone. >_<

In other words, here = bad until 60+ at least, with a party, possibly to level.

To answer your question, my static group XP'd here at level 60-61, getting around base 180xp. The link radius and frequency is a problem, but it is nice to level in new areas.

Path "Gates" in Newton
# Sep 28 2004 at 12:54 PM Rating: Default
Does anyone know how to switch the gates in grids (F-7) & (F-10)?

After zoning into Newton, you have to "rotate" the gates (in the circle areas). It will allow you to zone back into Oldton and flip the two switches that are unreachable from the middle Oldton entrance. Once all three are switched, entrance into Mine Shaft #2716 is permitted. (Simular to Garlaige's "doors")

I understand where the switches are, but I don't know how to flip the path blockers in Newton. ><

P.S. I threw a bottle of Firesand into the furnace and nothing happened, except the room rumbled.

Ok well I went exploring here, Got to the zone in oldton where you have to ahve three people hit 3 switches to raise a bridge to zone into a different part of newton.

Well I searched around and there are Treasure Coffers here as I was promptly killed by a mimic after using about 7 Skeleton Keys. The coffer spawn point was at (I-8) so still no idea what drops form the coffer.

My guess is past that bridge also leads to the Mine Shaft #45273 or whatever number it is.

This is defiently a dungeon area.

PS: You can steal gold beastcoins from the gobs in newton, I can't remember which I stole from though.

I found a map in the coffer... then got eaten by the next one (darn mimic..).

The bridge entrance does seem to lead to the mine shaft... only a gate usually blocks the pat... Sometimes the gates move (I've seen previously blocked paths open and previously open paths blocked) though I dont know when/how. Currently I'm waiting on a gate that decided to block the path to one of the switches @_@

I went exploring last night in here as my level 50 Paladin and I had 2 other level 50s with me and a level 62. We were in Oldton Movopolis until we accidentally found the zone for Newton. Well, about 2 steps in there, we ran into a bugbear that was IT++ to me, so I asked the BLM with me to scan it....... To which he replied it was IT++ to him also. However the mobs after the initial "guardsmen" (you will understand when you see them) were all VT++ to him, so these are certainly high level mobs I wont be seeing for a while lol.... Just wanted to pass along any information about the mobs here

First off, they said they haven't played CoP yet, therefore they wouldn't know for sure anyways. They also didn't remember the orders of the zones which doesn't help that much. Second, don't call people morons when you spell words you could easily check when you're done with your post. For example,

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 22 2004 at 5:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Oldton and Newton are under "City", so they wouldn't have any mobs. Please don't post things that are obviously wrong, seeing as how it says it's classified under City :P

# Sep 21 2004 at 5:57 PM Rating: Decent
I'm confusing myself now -_-

Not having COP yet here is some info.

In north gustaberg there are two entrances to the first area, i belive oldton movalpolos. The mobs in this area will con Too weak to Easy prey to a lvl 55 RDM. You can also access Oldton Movalpolos from Gusgen Mines close to the entrance right where there's a mining point (there use to be boulders where the zone is).

If Oldton is the first zone and newton is the second zone, as in the one further in. The mobs in Newton will con IT to a lvl 55.

If i have the zones mixed up then just switch the info around.
