Description

These vast grasslands are situated just to the north of the Republic of Bastok. In contrast to the surrounding Bastok Mountains, the Konschtat Highlands are abundant with an array of alpine wildlife. Also, in order to harness the powerful winds called "Odin's Wrath" that constantly blow through the area, Bastok has constructed numerous windmills throughout the highlands. According to a treaty, San d'Oria provides a portion of their grain crops in exchange for the use of Bastok's windmills to produce flour.

Konschtat Highlands is home to many creatures of Vana'diel, populated by sheep, lizards, saplings, bees, Goblins, Quadavs, and the occasional Thunder Elemental. Many unprepared adventurers have been felled by roaming Tremor Rams and the Rampaging Ram. The zone is especially dangerous at night, when the undead prowl for fresh meat.

The Crag of Dem breaks the skyline near the middle of the map, providing veteran adventurers with access to Ru'Aun Gardens and Al'Taieu.

Fortune seekers dig for riches in Gusgen Mines to the east of the Crag. The Bastokian path to Jeuno goes through Pashhow Marshlands to the northeast.

This is the spot to check to complete this quest:

Past Perfect Quest.

It starts in Bastok Port and I believe there is a small fame requirement to start it (although not much).

Where is the entrance to the mines?
RE: Mines
# Apr 22 2004 at 8:12 PM Rating: Decent
should be at L-7, entrance of gusgen mines
soloing
# Apr 17 2004 at 6:20 PM Rating: Decent
if you hunt the worms over by the entrance to gusgen mines at K-7 to L-7 it should be pretty decent solo experience from lvl 9-12, just watch out for ghosts and quadavs...
mobs in highlands
# Apr 08 2004 at 8:50 AM Rating: Excellent
the mobs in the highlands that are most deadly to the lower levels are:

Earth Elementals (when it's dust storms)
Thunder Elementals (when it's thunderstorms)
Tremor Rams
Steelfleece (badass sob that won't hesitate to obliterate you in a matter of milliseconds)
Highlands Mobs
# Apr 06 2004 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
Tremor Rams are safe to take at level 30+
The new mob is a goblin archaeologist - its strength may vary from 40-50 depending on your level - Trade clusters one every hour until he gets out of ground. After that FUN!
One nm in Highlands is a Rampaging ram who i suggest don't solo until lvl 50
What to hunt?

Any advice on what to hunt here for levelling? Something that regularly spawns in a predictable area, so that you can set up camp and get some good EXP chains going?

I'm thinking of something like the Thick Shells in La Thein, and the Dhalmels in Tahrongi. This is my first Bastok character, so I don't know what the local equivalent is.

It's a new thing that came with that Feb 26 Patch, I think. It will only accept an item once a game day (About One Earth Hour). I'm unsure what it is for, but I know that there are more of them, one of them being in the Crag of Holla or something. (I got the last one off of another website, so i'm not sure if the info is correct).

found a cave in the hill around G6/7. Went inside. There's a stone with some writing, but can't walk all the way into the cave.

Any idea what this is for?
RE: found a cave
# Dec 15 2003 at 6:45 AM Rating: Default
Isn't the writing from the famous explorer? If so u have to get that quest from a man in Selbina, the quest is called "An Explorers Footsteps". U get it from the mayor. For more info on the quest check the quest section.

Yeah, it is. every outdoor area around the major cities has a monument, making a clayprint from this one will get you 1000 gil. not bad.

Perpetually windy, the Konschtat Highlands were a natural location for the many windmills that dot its western landscape. Also of interest is the massive Crag of Dem that looms over the hilly region.

A fair variety of monstrous wildlife and Beastmen populate the Highlands, from the simple Rock Eaters found near North Gustaberg to the humongous Steelfleece Baldarich, an immense ram of extraordinary power.

This zone acts primarily as a crossroads, linked to Bastok via the Gustaberg path, to Jeuno far past the Pashhow Marshlands, and to Selbina through the Valkurm Dunes. The entrance to the haunted Gusgen Mines can also be found on the east side of the zone, though along the way there are some difficult enemies that may be encountered, such as Ghosts, Weapons, and in the right weather, Elementals.

Ghosts are particularly fond of lurking around the region near Gusgen Mines at night, approach the area with great care, and if you are planning on a sheep-hunting expedition, it might be wise to use the western exit from the pass on the Bastok side.

Just to be safe.

The ghosts do NOT operate alone, I've seen groups of three or four east of Dem close enough together that if one aggros they all will.
Secret Spot...?
# Nov 12 2003 at 10:03 PM Rating: Default
I found this secret spot at the far west part of the map (west from Crag of Dem) where there is an inlet and then it kinda forms into a cave as you get near the end of it, and there should be a ghost guarding it or something, after I beated the ghost and went deeper (it's not really a cave) you would see that you can click or target something on the ground named "???". If anyone finds out what it is that'd be cool.

Its for the Samurai quest
RE: Secret Spot...?
# May 05 2004 at 3:03 PM Rating: Decent
Exactly. It is for the Samurai flag quest. Trading the lump of steel given to you by one of the sudents in Norg to the ??? will summon the Bomb Forger. Need to be in a party of about 4-5 lv 30+ to beat it i would guess-timate. You'll have to beat it each once in order to all get the bomb steel though. Check the Samurai flag quest section for full details.
Earth Elemental
# Nov 11 2003 at 3:14 PM Rating: Decent
Watch out for Earth Elementals, at least those of us below 15th. One appeared near the windmills and owned my party. It looks like a small group of rocks floating around a brown crystal. Nasty fellow.
RE: Earth Elemental
# Nov 13 2003 at 10:55 AM Rating: Default
The trick with Elementals is that they aggro people who use magic near them.
Tremor Ram...
# Nov 11 2003 at 2:38 AM Rating: Default
Watch OUT for Tremor Ram. He isn't happy to just hang out around the Crag. He is mobile, highly so, you can expect to see him just about anywhere north of the Crag, all the way to the entrance to the Dunes (and, yes, the signposts for the latest in the 'Mommy' quests).

My party would have gotten wasted yesterday if not for a small god of a samurai who stepped up and took him down.
steelfleece
# Nov 10 2003 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
Theres some pretty tough monsters on the highlands sometimes, i saw one called steelfleece it took up half the screen! I checked it and it said strength impossible to guage. looked like a super humungous tremor ram. didnt fight it though im only lvl 13 BLM.
RE: steelfleece
# Jan 08 2004 at 12:52 AM Rating: Default
Huh,iv never seen this Humongous Tremor Ram before. I had a friend playing the game and tell me about how it took up almost the entire screen. Hehe ofcourse i didnt beileve him much. But now that youve seen it ill have to look up on it
Tremor Rams......
# Nov 08 2003 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
Well, last night, me and 2 of my friends decided to check up on Crag Dem. And then we decided to wax some mad sheep's. We had a few kills then all of a sudden, we saw this HUGE mob. At first 1 of my friends thought it was a Bull, but when we targeted it, it said that it's a tremor ram. Well, out of my curiosity, I went a few steps closer to take a pic, after I did, I laughed and said what a huge ****.

As we were looking at the mob, it began to walk. And while it was walking, it was causing the ground to shake (hence the name tremor ram), every step it took, it was shaking the area we were in. Then all of a sudden, it attacked my other friend. It was both funny and crazy cause it hit him for 67 (he was only level 11) and he got waxed in 2 hits :(. Anyway, I just wanted to share that crazy *** exp that me and my friends had last night hehe. So pretty much be on the lookout for that Tremor ram, unless you guys can take him.

Crag of Dem
# Nov 07 2003 at 5:23 PM Rating: Default
I'm thinking the crag of Dem is a boss battle....So U probably have to be a certain level and in a party to get inside. I don't know for sure yet, so thats my guess. If anybody can verify would be very helpful.
Mad sheep
# Nov 06 2003 at 4:04 AM Rating: Decent
Watch out for those Mad sheep; they can lamb chop ya. Windmills look cool though. Overall a fun zone.

The Crags are places that white mages can teleport to. You must have a crystal from a crag to be able to be teleported by a whm to that specific crag. There are 6 total places to teleport to I believe.
Telepoint?
# Nov 03 2003 at 11:53 AM Rating: Default
I got a dem crystal from one of the telepoints but for the life of me i can't figure how to get inside that buliding or if even can. I was thinking that you have to take the dem crystal to someone maybe and then you'll have access to the inside. I dont know thats just a guess. Anybody know anything more about the Crag of Dem?
RE: Telepoint?
# Nov 14 2003 at 11:09 PM Rating: Decent
There's a mission called 'Crystal Line' that starts w/ Cid in Bastok Market/Metalworks area.. you can use Trade to place a crystal on a telepoint, which 'drains' it, then take that back to Cid... I'm going to attempt this solo at level 11 lol - wish me luck - where are the telepoints in relation to the Crag?
RE: Telepoint?
# Nov 25 2003 at 3:25 PM Rating: Default
the mission is easy.. just run to the crag and trade a crystal to the telepoint and run back out again..

avoid the monsters, which can be done fairly easily
RE: Telepoint?
# Dec 10 2003 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
actualy be careful of quadevs, they seem to like bein close to the right side for the crag. and i've seen grenades around too
